- bobThese guys are obvious scam artists using information they found in public records. Don't even bother calling them back, just have their number blocked if you can, and consider filing a complaint with your local bureau of investigation; every little bit of information provided to the authorities hems these scumbags up.
- Judythese people are full of we all know what. please don't let them scare you into doing anything. there are so many ways that good law abiding people are getting ripped off. everyday. so just trust in god and take care of things that are important. God will save and keep us whole. BELIEVE.
- aminea| 1 replyYou got debt , you know who you have done business with and you know who you have not . Then for us who own up to any credit cards, or hospital bills, cable, etc. You can if you have it to spare, send 5 dollars a month, and if they refuse your generous payment then they forfet any claim to payment .( please keep this attempt in your record ) There are alot of great scam , and other things to get you out of your money . Be careful. Also after so many years the company get payment for this and it should go off your credit , but check with you law makers in your area to see what new laws are being added or changed.
- angryHey SarahParker, they did file a lawsuit against my mother but she repeatly asked the credit card company to SEND her an original contract and a payment through the mail. Their response was no and told her she'd have to make payments online. She doesn't do anything online because she needs a hard copy for her records and with ID theft on the raise...we don't trust just anyone going into a bank account anymore. Two different ones claiming to be representing the same card took out $2100 dollars out of her account and then we called the card company to see what the balance was only to find out they didn't have a clue as to who the people were!
Worst part is now they say she owns more than she can afford plus interest, court fees and all! Repeatly asking the credit card company to send her an orginial contract and payment and now they ASSUME that she has the original contract in her possession. My mother doesn't have one and she NEVER received on in the first place. Aren't they suppose to mail those things to you? She told me she never signed on in the first place.
We've had 3 or 4 different ones for the same card too. Now two of the other cards are willing to receive payment out right and they do send a bill in the mail. But this one doesn't seem to want to corporate with us. I've never heard of a credit card refusing to accept payment by mail like this one has!
Sorry won't name the card either they have a rotten habit of looking on these boards for certain names. I'm hearing now that if you mention one they'll trace it back to your computer and file a lawsuit against you for slander. Can you believe that BULL!! - SylviaI was at work and my husband called me and said a lawyer called and said does a David XXXXX there. He said no, he then asked did he know a David XXXX he said yes. He them left his name "Tony Brewer" @1-800-355-0123. So I called this "Tony Brewer" and gave him the reference number he left and his computer went down and he havd to call me back, but he needed my name so I gave it to him. I gave him my work number, during that time my cell phone was ringing and it was my ex-sister-n-law and she said some lawyer is calling her house and she has been remarried for 15 years. I told her I was on the phone with this lawyer and they have been calling my house too. I have been remarried for 19 years and my phone number is in my husband name so who is this person they are looking for it sure is hell not him. Well this Brewer guy calls me back and tells me he is looking for David XXXX and I said I have a son and that is his name and he is in school, he said do I know a person at an address in NJ, I said no I do not. I'm in OKLAHOMA. He said well you are listed as his sister I told him I'm an only child maybe he needs to talk to my parents! I also told him if you have the persons address go there! He said thank you, I said have a good day!

- mikemy parents recieved a call from Henry Smith from this same number (800 355 0123). he left a message asking for my dad, then when my dad called back, they were asking for info on me. he didnt give them any info, then a few minutes later a few calls from atty L Hecker at 609 570 3039, he didnt answer. i dealt with these same guys before, and i filed a report with BBB the calls stopped for a few months but have begun again using a different name. they claim i owe for a credit card with a $10,000 limit, but i havent ever earned that kind of money to have a card with that high of a limit. i checked my credit report and there wasnt anything on there even close to this amount or company "owed". i am contacting a lawyer, its terrible that U.S. citizens have to deal with this kind of harrasment.

- Angie replies to Marc Greer`Thank you so much for that information. I just spoke with one of the reps there, named Marlena Burns, and she was so rude. I told them I did have the money to pay them off today and I probably won't for a couple of months because I'm the only one working in my househould. I was suppose to receive a letter from them last month concerning the amount owed and guess what, I never got it. Gave them my correct address and never received anything from them. So the information you posted was very helpful.
- fred replies to amineawrong MORON! when you default on a contract it si written into the contract that the creditor has the right to demand the balance in full the only thing you can do to stop them from taking action is pay the balance
- MS| 1 replyI just got a call from this people...when I asked why they were looking for my brother they told me that they could not tell me why because they were Federal agent!!! Is that legal???
- Calls all the timeI just received the call. I get calls from a number of these companies claiming to be atty's and lawyers. Further investigation I've gathered is the debt collectors rent a space in a building where a lawyer or Atty is located so they can claim that is what they are. Once I became disabled and started getting ripped off by credit card companies who have been calling me non-stop since 2006. I talked to every company and told them the situation and that I could still pay as long as they put my payment date back where it was since I only get SS. They refused. Less than a week later I got a call asking if I wanted to pay an extra fee for covering my debt in case of a layoff or disability and I told them that was odd because I had just called and explained that to them and they did not offer me this until after I notified them of my situation and they would not take any payment from me at all unless it was a full amount that they just made up. In the state of PA they can not take your home or car. Doesn't apply to me since I don't own anything and never will. It's hard to pay someone back when they lie to you and refuse to work with you . Be aware of the tactics they use. When you ask them for more information about why they are calling they have no idea. They just purchased the debt they have no idea how much you really owe. They even started calling my BF's mother claiming I have a Prescription back ordered and that I need to call them . There is no prescription and I NEVER gave anyone his mothers number.

- Carol| 1 replyI just received a vm from a Darla Monroe asking for someone I have no affiliation with. When I called back I got a girl who was extremely rude kept placing me on hold in the middle of my sentences and then hung up on me when I asked to spell out the name of the "attorney's office" and to have my # removed from their database. I called back, got trasnfered for 4 different people and suddenly the phone was passed not xferred to "Darla" I explained their office personnel was very rude and she replied with "well I'm not rude" and I expalined I needed my # removed. She stated they do not have a "databse" to remove the # it comes from an FBI search base and so fourth. I let her know I have no affiliation to the people she was referencing and she got an atitude and stated she will have my number removed and hung up on me as I was still speaking. "But she's not the rude one there right?" I hope they call me again, and let's see who's gonna be the one calling who when she's the one getting sued for harrassment, dumb b*tch!

- PF33People please reference the Fair Debt Collections & Practices Act (http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf) and find out the statute of limitations on debt enforcement specific to your state. The absolute best defense against these junk debt collectors is knowledge. Don't return any calls, put everything in writing and ask the same from them and pull your credit report. These companies are not there to help you with your credit, nor are they collecting for the original creditor. As a matter of fact, settling with them often harms your credit as the debt it then re-aged & appears current.
Standard business practice is that they buy old debt that has been charged off by the original creditor for pennies on the dollar. Many times by the time it gets to bottom feeders like Hecker it is outside the statute of limitations (SOL). Making a payment acknowledges that it is a valid debt so even if it is outside the SOL, you've now re-aged the debt & made it current. Make sure you protect yourself before settling with any collector.
If they are reporting a debt that is outside the SOL, you do not legally owe the debt. Send them a letter informing them of such (there are a number of samples online). If it is within the SOL, always ask for validation of the debt if for no other reason than to ensure that they have the legal right to collect it. You absolutely have the right to confirm the original creditor & that the debt is owed by you (again, there sample letters online but choose wisely). They can not continue collection or reporting a debt that has not been validated, nor can they file suit against you.
These companies use a lot of scare tactics because they often work. Look how many of you have actually spoken to them & made (or tried to make) payments. If they buy this debt for $.01 on the dollar, pretty much anything they get from you is profit.
To be very clear, I am in no way advocating not you should not pay on debt you legally owe. Only that you inform yourself & research the best way to go about it.- Caller: Hecker
