THese guys are total scumbags.  One of my employees actually got suckered into buying some grease and degreaser.   THe sent him some sports memorabilia and sent me a huge bill.  One month later, another shipment came in.  It was signed for  and with out my knowledge came another huge bill.  My employee says, they arre smooth talkers.  I paid the bill for his sake and thought there would be no more.  Today I get another shipment,it was signed for before anyone cought who it was from.  I called to get a return athorization. The man was a total pig... rude, obnoxious, ass!  I will not send it back nor will I pay the bill.  They can sue all they want, I am sure it would cost them much more than there measly product would. I guess we will have plenty of high priced clean hands for many years to come, this time at there expense.  I would like to shove a tube of grease up there [***] so they know how it feels to be hosed!!!!!

Called me today, in Sparks NV.  Free Football. I repeatedly told her I don't know her company and they had not spoken to me before.
She gave me a number, B-1741, to confirm the football shipment...when I asked where she was, she said New York. When I asked for HQ phone number, she hung up.

Received a call from this woman on a cell phone (crappy connection) thanking me for my past orders.  (True because we order the same thing every year for about $1,500).  Well, she started the phone conversation with sending out my special gift and how I am signed up for some Yankee and JETS tickets.  I naturally thanked her and verified my mailing address with her.  THEN, she insisted we needed to re-order that $1,500 product and asked for a PO and a confirmation that we need this product and that she will be shipping it out to us.  I said, oh, no, wait.  We don't need that product right now as our shop department has not advised me of the need to re-order this product.  She then started to begin makinging a deal with me because she really "needed" this sale.  She said she would push the terms of payment to net 60 days.  Then she said she would take $20 off.  I kept saying no, then she said, "I really need your help".  I didn't agree to buy anything and I kept on saying no, we don't need anything right now...no, no, no, thank you anyway but no we are fine right now thank you;  THAT is all she heard.  So I am recorded as saying NO.  I told her if anything ships, it will be refused.  Isn't it sad that compnaies have to play like this to make a sale.  I will look elsewhere now for my Citrus cleaner.  :)

    naiive new shop manager
I took the call early in my tenure from "Valerie Walker" and then later from some guy named "Palmer".  My experience was just like many i've read here.  They shmooze you like they've known you forever, try to ply you with sports junk and offers for free meals, then oh yeah, what PO would you like to use for the degreaser or safety glasses or ice melt or whatever.  Valerie was going to come out and buy me lunch, then that had to be pushed off.  Then she was "transferred" and some other dude made the exact same offer, the same pushoff, rinse and repeat.  They set stuff to reorder periodically whether you ask them to or not.
The only way to deal with them is forcefully.  It's no use trying to call the number.  Refuse any shipments, and if they try to come after you tell them, "Go ahead, sue me!  You can take your junk back--we're not paying for any of it."  They will write you off as a loss and you can be free of them.
This company is giving New Jersey a bad name.

    Construction - Glendora
Rubachem - Not necessarily a scam, just very shady sales techniques.  They start by acting like they are your best friend - "Oh, hi just checking in, remember we spoke awhile ago and you told me to call back?"  "You know we talked about (your favorite sports team, which by the way they always guessswrong) Then they promise to send some sports memorabilia and at the end of the conversation, they tell you they are going to send you "another" supply of something - anything from $20 rolls of duct tape to $100 bags of kitty litter.  Very creative you gotta give them that, but they never discuss the actual cost of the product, nor do they tell you, you are actually ordering anything.  The boss was not happy when we recieved our $1,300 bill for caution tape any kitty litter.

I worked at Rubachem a few years ago as a sales rep/telemarketer.  Let me clear up exactly what the company does and does not do.

It's not a scam, but it does use dishonest sales tactics.  They wouldn't ship orders to companies that hadn't agreed to buy something.  As a sales rep, we had to first make sure that the person on the phone said that they had purchasing authority.  Then they had to agree to buy the stuff, and we'd make sure to list specifically what they were buying, and write it down.  We'd even ask for a purchase order number.  After we (the sales reps) got the order, a manager would call back to verify it.  The management didn't want to ship a box out and have it returned, or have the company refuse payment.  They wanted sales reps to deliver good orders that would verify.  I know some of the people above are complaining that they "just got sent" this stuff.  From my experience there, I doubt that- management seemed very careful to not want to deal with people who wouldn't pay.  My guess is that the people who are complaining that stuff "just showed up" had someone on the phone with Rubachem who was a bit stupid/slow and wasn't paying attention to what was said to them over the phone in plain (north Jersey) English.

    Here's how the calls worked:
We'd all make up a sales name- none of the names on the phone are real.  First we try to find the "supply manager" or whoever it was that was in charge of inventory- the person who had purchasing authority.  It was really hard to find that person, and that took most of our time.  We'd ask the person we finally found if they had purchasing authority.  If they didn't, we'd ask who that person was, and it would go on.  Once we found that person, we'd move on to the sales pitch.  We'd pretend to be regional sales reps who actually go around to visit our customers- that's not true, we're only telemarketers.  We might say we just got transferred to the region, and apologize for not having been around their workplace recently.  We'd say we wanted to send them a gift for our company's anniversary, some football jerseys or whatever, totally free.  We'd say that we probably won't be able to stop by for another few months, but when we do, we'll take them out to some restaurant on Rubachem's dime.  We'd try to talk to them about their families, find out how many kids they have, etc.  We'd try to find out what sport they liked, Nascar or football or whatever.  Then we'd talk to them more about the jersey's, find out where to send them, ask them what size they want for themselves and their families.  (We were told by management that people who aren't really into the idea of getting a gift from us usually wouldn't buy our products.  More than anything, Rubachem's business model is a kickback scheme with companies that have weak purchasing systems.)  After the person agreed to the gift and gave specifics on what gifts they wanted and where to send them, we'd say that since we can't come around for another couple of months, how about I send a small box of products A and B to "hold you over"?  If they said no, we'd try to convince them to agree to any order, and ask them more about what they needed.  If they stood firm in saying no, there would be no sale and no gifts- we wouldn't just ship things out without the customer agreeing.  If they said yes, we'd take the order, writing down detailed information, including asking for an invoice # or purchasing order number.  We'd thank them, say we looked forward to coming by and getting lunch, and say they should look out for their gift.  Then the call would end, we'd give the detailed order info to our manager.  Later on, he'd call the same person up to verify the order.  If the order did verify, the box of insanely overpriced cleaning supplies would get sent out, along with free Nascar jerseys or whatever cheap gift the supply manager wanted.  Everybody would be happy, except the owner of the company, who would be ripped off, but he often wouldn't know about it.

That's how it worked.  If you don't want to buy things from Rubachem, don't agree to buy anything from them.  If you don't want your company to be vulnerable to telemarketers like Rubachem, you need to have an effective sales policy.  Keep purchasing authority centralized, so that regular employees know they aren't allowed to buy things.  Tell everybody, especially those with purchasing authority, that they aren't allowed to accept gifts.  (When we heard on the phone "we can't take gifts" we'd usually hang up.)  Tell employees with purchasing authority that they have to shop around for price before agreeing to purchase anything.  And if you don't want to deal with telemarketers like Rubachem, you might circulate a list of companies that employees are forbidden to deal with.

On the other hand, if you're a supply manager with little oversight, and you want free stuff, Rubachem can hook you up.  A regular "customer" can get even better gifts.  Your company will pay through the nose, but who's gonna notice?

I suppose it's possible that I didn't know what was really going on, and Rubachem just sent things out to unwilling buyers.  But it was a small office, so I doubt that.  Also, the business model I saw, that I've described here, makes a lot more sense than the alternative of just randomly shipping out boxes to people who haven't agreed to pay for them, so I don't think Rubachem would have changed how they do business.

Total Scam, we got a call about sending hats and free paint.  A few months later we get an invoice then it is turned over to a collection agency Birchmont Financial, which has the same address as Rubachem.  Rubachem or RCS would not talk to me and told we it has been turned over to a collection agency.  After getting the New Jersey Better Business Bureau involved they considered the oblibation to be paid and satisfied.  Invoiced almost $400 for a $25 box of paint.  Total Scam!!!!

I get these calls about once a month. I guess they don't keep records of the call because the second I realize who the call is from, I interrupt and tell them that they want to talk to our supply department. I then give them the number to our local Lowes.

SCAM SCAM SCAM there is no other word for what they are doing. Fast talking New Jersey SCAM artists. Making small talk about things they have no clue about like...sports, your kids, your projects. They act like they've done business with you before and try to lead you down a verbal path to saying ok to whatever crap they're trying to send you. In my case it was Safety Glasses and Safety Gloves. I'm going to spend the rest of the day registering complaints with every website on the internet. Hope you have a nice day "Jill Phillips" or whatever fake name you're using this week.
