They call when your account appears to be overdrawn.  However, it appears that they will call you if it's not overdrawn.  I've got quite a bit of change in my account with no NSF charges, but received a call today.  They called the first time and I ignored the call, but decided to answer when they called 1/2 hour later.  The young man apologized and said it was an error.  I suppose that everyone makes mistakes, but I don't think that any of us can afford our banks to make them.  Times are tough.  Next thing you know you'll be reported to Telecheck.  Too bad there's no one bank better than the other, or else I'd withdraw my pennies and deposit elsewhere.

Then why do they leave a recording as a msg that is incomplete, does not mention who is calling or for what reason?  Do they know that their recording does not give any information as to what the call concerns?  When you call back, static and cuts off.  I have an overdrawn account at chase, but am with a debt consolidation company and that debt is covered in my settlement.  It may be a legit call from JP Morgan Chase, but the way that the call comes thru, no one should dare answer as it is only partial recording.

So do some research before you tell everyone it is legit.

This number appears to belong to the Chase Bank.
I accidentally overdrafted one of their Debit Cards that I thought was a Credit card.
I received calls apparently from 8005550433 several times,
but whenever I would pick up the phone, the dialing party,
most likely an autodialer would simply hang up.
This lead me to believe the number was bogus.
Personally, I think it should be illegal to autodial a phone number
unless at the very least you leave a message or speak to the called number.
This is one of the reasons I an strongly considering severing my relationship
with the Chase Bank, as I am an unemployed telephone support worker,
who's job has been outsourced offshore via technology like this.
Rant Off. Your milage may vary, etc.

I've just started getting calls about this at 10 AM, on this day (May 25, 2010). I really don't have an account with Chase or anything. I was confused, until I remembered that I set up a non-refillable Green Dot card and used that for a while. They overcharged it by -$11.90. I appreciate them telling me, maybe not through a broken recording, but again, it was a TEMPORARY card that was supposed to stop working after the balance reached $0.00. So, when I closed the account, they still said they sent out the bill for -$11.90. Really. I'm only sixteen, I'm so glad I caught it before it went any lower, but still, this really pisses me off. How would I even pay it off anyway, if I can't even put any money INTO the card?

So, if you've never used Green Dot before, don't. When you set up a "temporary card", as soon as it reaches $0.00 (even though it's not supposed to), expect it to go past. You won't be able to pay it because you can't add money to it. You'll have to close the account and have them still send out the bill that you shouldn't have.

Also, since I have a Windows Mobile (HTC Touch Pro) phone, I'm using a program called Call Firewall to block their number from contacting me.

These people called me this morning and even told me that my account was negative for 11 days and EVEN told me how much my direct deposit was this morning! I told them that I will go up to the bank and take care of it.

I called the bank and they said that this is NOT a Chase number and that they NEVER call and ask questions like that over the phone. She reported it and told me that several other people had called in as well.

Hah. Yeah, sure. Whatever you say, buddy.  You want my brothers' ssn along with my parents as well?

This is a scam. I am overdrawn at chase right now, but I was not pleased when they asked for either my full ssn or full acct #. Any company I've dealt with that has that kind of information (insurance, cc, etc) ALWAYS asks for the LAST 4 digits of ssn and a security question (I.e. mother's maiden name).  These people want it all, which leads me to believe they are not chase since they don't have that info already on file. Plus, when chase or any other company has called me in the past, they called once and left a good voicemail.  And they're not calling you every other minute.

Also, isn't the fact that so many of these "chase" employees are on here trying to justify their scam a little bit suspicious?

"paranoid nancy" and "Jenny", first off, this is an automated voice message that is called.  You guys don't even have the decensy to have a live person call for this service.  People overdraw their accounts, it happens, its not on purpose, it just happens.  Stop being corporate A**HOLES!  Second, having this number call 5-6x per day is just stupid.  Do you want to keep your customers?  Third, you guys have found a way to screw your customers.  Let me give you a little scenario:  Lets say you have $100 in your account.  You have the following transactions in order of time of transaction:

    8:00 am - $3.75 at starbucks
    11:30 am - $7.00 for lunch
    3:00 pm - $3.75 at wherever
    $4:00 pm - electric bill autodraft $95

If you withdrew these amounts in the order they took place, there would only be one overdraft fee of $35 for $9.50 in total overdrafts.  In other words, 368% fee for the overdraft.  Instead what Chase does is they first apply the $95 (or the highest amount), leaving you with a balance of $5.  Then the $7 is applied, leaving you with a balance of -$2, then each $3.75 fee.  So your total overdraft balance is $9.50, the same amount as the other method, but your overdraft fees for this are $105 or 1,105% fee.  That's why I refuse to answer my phone calls to you jerks or why I refuse to pay this fee.  Its a scam!  You guys are just a fiduciary, holding the publics money and lending out to others.  Get off your high horse.
