    Disgruntled Payer- Acc# 771078
I was intially told by Mr Montgomery at CTI Collection Agency that upon making 9 consecutive monthly payments of $156.00 , I would be out of default and I would qualify for a lower payment program.

I have fulfilled my agreement with CTI by making 10 on time monthly payments of $156.00.  Unfortunately CTI has informed me that the ' Department of Education's' system is down and they are unable to remove me from default until 'the system' comes back up.

CTI nor the Department of Education has provided any information pertaining to how long 'the system' will be down or how debt payers, like myself, are to proceed in situations like this.

What is also extremely unfair about this situation is, I'm expected to continue making my montly payments of $156.00 until 'the system' is restored. To add insult to injury, CTI nor the Department of Education can confirm that my 2011 income taxes wont be intercepted upon filing.

Again, CTI nor the Department of Education, has offered any real assistance or guidance in this matter.  Obviously I am reluctant to file my taxes this year until this matter has been resolved.

As most of America is aware, these are difficult financial times are are living in.  I truly did not have the money to make these monthly payments but in the interest of doing what is right, I committed to and kept my agreement with CTI.

I have four children and I cannot afford to have my 2011 taxes taken.  I fulfilled my part of the agreement and I'm simply asking that CTI and the Department of Education fulfill their part as well.

Any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Innocent
My neighbor just called me and said "Paul" was calling because I had listed her on a job application.  Completely fabricated that story.  My neighbor said he kept asking for my information but she wouldn't give it to him.  I called this "Paul" and left him a message that I didn't owe anybody any money and I surely had not applied for a job.  If they call again, I will report them.  I hope all of my neighbors take his number and not give him any information on me.  If I had listed anyone as a reference on a job application, they would have all the information they needed and there would be no need to call my neighbors and ask for information about me.  DDDUUUHHHHH!!!

    Dear Disgruntled Payer - Acc# 771078,
It is unfortunate that you are a victim of circumstance due to the Department of Education's computer conversion. However, even if your account had already rehabbed, you would still be making monthly payments to the new lender.... your payments wouldn't have stopped. So continue making monthly payments until you are notified who the new lender is.
In regards to having your taxes seized, you can call the US Treasury at 800-304-3107 to confirm whether or not you are on the treasury offset list. If you are certified (meaning your taxes will be intercepted) maybe you should consider filing for an extension on filing your taxes until the rehabilitation process is complete.
If the Dept of Education doesn't know when the conversion will be complete, there is no way the contracted agencies will know.
    Best of luck.

    Leaving me suicidal
I have received numerous calls from this number, but never any written documentation. After googling this number and seeing the comments listed here, I doubt I'll consider contacting them.

I was a debt collector before I became disabled 8 years ago and never would have dreamed of treating people like this when I was working. I would have been fired if I had.

Being unable to work and left with only social security is depressing in itself, but being kicked to the curb repeatedly has left me thinking I'd be better off dead. If it weren't for my two young children I'd have checked out long ago. Oh, did I mention 1 of them has a disability too?

I'm still not sure how my application for social security ever went thru since the neurologist I saw said upfront he doesn't sign disability forms. That should have been my red flag right there. When I tried over a year ago to see him to sign my student loan discharge application he stated again he doesn't sign disability forms. Gee, good enough to take my money to see him, but not good enough to have him sign papers I need to file?

So in the meantime I'm left with bottom feeders harassing me around the clock and taking the tax refund we had coming last year. OH and lets not forget the medication that insurance won't cover anymore so there's another $139 a month I'm left without. With that and the worthless doctors who are too high and mighty to take care of their patients I find it hard to give the time of day to @#$)* collectors like this one.

Apparently these collectors haven't been placed in a situation where their lives are turned upside down with no warning. However, I truly believe everyone has something and for some it just hasn't happened yet.

Hang in there LMS. You need to report that Doc to his state licensing board.  Medical certifications aren't a voluntary pastime; they're a professional responsibility.

I also have industry experience and just got off the phone with these guys who proceeded to:

-give me the name of a school I never attended
-grossly overstate the amount I owe for the debt they're collecting (2x over)
-let slip that they've contacted my employer about garnishment before notifying me that it was imminent

And then they got all butthurt because I wouldn't commit to a payment arrangement on a debt that may or may not be mine, and thoroughly disputed the notion that paying on the debt is a de facto admission that it's valid.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, they said they couldn't break out the balance they claim is due by principal, interest and fees. So I guess I'll be trying to get through to a live body at ED.  Who knows if they'll do anything.

I have received 2 phone calls from this number in the past week on my cell phone. (which is listed on the national do not call registry).  I did not answer either call but received a VM both times.  The message did not identify a company or a purpose for the call at all.  It was just "Hello, this is Marlene Durant please call me back at 800.624.4284 ext. 3189, and when calling back please reference this #xxxxx".  I did not return her call but instead tried several different "reverse phone" look-ups before I found this page.  It appears, based on others comments, that the call is coming from a debt collection agency.  Since I am completely debt-free I can't imagine why they would be calling me.  But after reading the posts on this site I have no intention of returning the call!

These agencies dont tell you that "they" can do it. They tell you that it can be done but its not them who does it. Always remember your loans are "serviced" by the legitimate agencies not owned by them. They tell Dept of ed their recommendation and what u do and dont do and dept of ed does everything else. agencies are here to inform you about this debt..you dont want to pay it or talk about it...thats fine...garnishment or levy is what they will do.

if its not you..just listen to what they say. If the info they ask is you..you have a federal debt... you may not be aware of it, but the us dept of ed is aware and are moving forward to garnish or levy you. I suggest you try to resolve it before you end up like the others on these postings that they took your wages or taxes

I just received my phone call from this company.
The problem is that when I did try to get my loans out of default with the Feds, they activated my account and sent it to a collection agency.
I made the mistake of speaking to them and they tried to get me to borrow from the relatives.
what was worse they placed a fee on my past due of 8,000 dollars which I now have to pay.
This means every time a new collection picks up my bill, they can assign any fee to the bill they wish and there is no way I can fight this criminal behavior.
I am on SS Disability and I have zero chance of making even a living wage in this economy.
If I could have the bill set back to the original amount which was 11,000 dollars and I could pay without any of their greedy terrorist gimmicks, I might do it.
I have to add here that Obama is planning on allowing about 29 milllion illegal aliens plus their anchor babies become US citizens, and all they have to do is pay a little fine, even though many of them used stolen fake social security  numbers , green cards , did not pay taxes, had babies we have to fee and school , and fraudulently obtained work, federal programs, ( welfare) and housing by theft criminal trespass and lying.
I bet most of the collectors are mexicans who have learned english, they are in California barrio of Mexico after all.
So, why should I pay back my loans? Why should I be held to a higher standard than some thieving marginal peasants.?
Ps. A college degree is pretty much worthless now anyway because most corporations higher foreign nationals on the H1-B program etc
Let them eat cake. I am not paying for Obama's wars and Obama's foodstamps for Mexicans and Obama's wifes parties

Aww come on guys, I love it when Debt Collections like this call me, I have already netted over $50k off companies like this. And I am going to make another cool $5K off this company. They never called me, they called my job (as in place of employment) asking for information about me. Ok if this is about a student loan or some other debt, it is against the Law for a co-worker or anybody at the place of employment to give out personal information no matter what the reason. Two if this is about a student loan you need to get your information correct, I am already and have been making payments to pay off my student loans which is almost paid off, and thats directly to them. So go ahead keep calling my job, I love making money off people like you, I don't even need to work, why should I when I can make a living off people like you (CTI) who violate the Fair Debt Collection Laws, lol. Good luck, have a great day :)

Also, in most states, a collection agency or their client must have taken you to court and won a judgement against you before they can even attempt garnishment of your wages. If they continue to harass you and refuse to tell you who they represent and whether either of them has a judgement against you, call Legal Aid (if you are eligible) or your own attorney, tell them the problem and let them handle the ***wipes at CTi.

Hasn't anyone told you that if you are on SS Disability or Soc. Sec. that they can't touch you in most states? Contact Legal Aid for your area and check out the pertinent laws.

You are half right. Agency’s that collect on behalf of a government agency have the power to administer a Administrative garnishment order. Look it up. I would also suggest to actually know what you're talking about before giving people advice. You might end up screwing them.
