- Dave WTurns out this is a legitimate number for CITI. I got several calls and decided to answer one time. They wanted my billing zip to confirm the number. I entered bogus info and it said wrong try again (more or less). I entered another bogus zip and got same result. I ended up talking to a lady after some delayed robo message. She was very polite but started asking for confirmation info for the account. Anyway, I said you called me, what for? She said she needed to confirm information first...anyway I said you are probably a spammer scammer and she said she was not, but I should have a nice day and she politely hung up. I started checking and we had not paid our CITI card bill for a couple months. I called the number on the back of our card, and sure enough, we had missed a payment it turns out because somehow we got switched to online billing notification. The wife had been ignoring the emails because we never worried about emails before.
Lesson learned - don't give personal info to callers because it could always be a scammer spoofing a legitimate business phone number, BUT be sure to follow up with the business in question using a known good number.- Caller: CITI
- Dave W replies to BruceThis IS a legitmate number used for this purpose. Don't give personal information to it in case it is a scammer spoofing CITI, but DO follow up with CITI using the number on the back of your credit card.
- msredboot7 replies to Bruceno, this number is NOT CITI BANK, i just called them and they double checked it, also my payment is totally on time and i got a call from this number,,,,,,,,BEWARE OF SCAMMERS.....THEY SOUND TOTALLY PROFESSIONAL
- john galtThis is a call from CitiCards. I just realized that I had forgotten to make my payment online this month, so it was about 7 days late. This is a very unusual occurrence for me, and I made my payment this afternoon. While I was online, I decided to check out this number since I had received several calls from it yesterday (a Sunday) and was curious about who it was. I never answered the calls, and no voice mail messages were left. Anyway, I found this message thread, which tells me that it must have been Citi calling me about that late payment.
- MarthaI got this call on Sunday...being a robo call saying I owed 87.00 and some change. After hanging up, I called the number on the back of the credit card and talked to the fraud dept. they denied knowing about robo calling but then said my last payment didn't come in. Since I paid it by phone a few days before the due date, I was confused. I even got a text confirming the full payment. After talking to the fraud dept, Angela from fraud said the payment didn't go through hitting some phone glitch. That's it.....NEVER paying by phone again. So now I'm paid up and hit with a penalty for not paying on time. Going to drop them....

- skeeter| 1 replyThis number calls us numerous times a day and asks for my brother in law (who lives in another state)! When I choose the option that this person does not live here they connect me with someone who then goes through a list of people with our same last name. Eventually they said my husbands name and he got on the phone and they would not explain to him why they were calling but kept asking him to verify his 16 digit account number and social. He told them to not call again and promptly called the number on the back of his citicard. They had no record of calls to him or late payments and took this number down, along with several others they have called from, to give to their fraud department!
- Caller: scam citicards
- Keith replies to DanaYep, definitely Citi Bank.
Verified. - NetteI've been receiving these calls for about a month now about 5 times a day. I got frustrated, started doing research, and stumbled upon this site. I didn't think I could have missed a payment because I have auto pay, but it turned out my auto pay had stopped and i was a month overdue, so i paid. If you don't have an account with citibank and u are receiving these calls, you may be a victim of identity theft and u may want to get that checked out...
- Caller: Citibank
- Call type: Debt collector
- Jeremiah replies to MarieNo, they can call between 8am and 9pm any day of the week, including holidays
- seanthis IS Citibank, although I don't doubt that Scammers are using this number as a smoke screen. The scammers have software these days that allow them to show whatever number they want you to see on your caller ID. They know that citibank has millions of customers so they are trying to take advantage. IF it is a legit call from citibank and you do not answer citibank will leave a message on your voice mail. the message will ask you to call a 1-800 number and it will give you a code number on the message to key in to hear your message. In my case I mistakenly posted an online payment before my funds were available and the payment bounced. They ran it twice, I got 2 NSF fees from my bank THEN I got the call from 816-420-1002. I didn't answer, I never answer if I don't recognize. They left a voice mail that said I was late on a payment and I was to call 1-800-298-6359 and they gave me a 6 digit code to enter to retrieve my message. I called the number, entered the code and the message said I was late yada yada.... anyway it allowed me to hit "1" to speak to a customer service rep. The only info she asked me to verify was my zip code. I explained to her my mistake and told her I was re-posting the payment. She notated it and said you won't receive any more calls. If you are receiving "harassing" calls from this number either 1) your a deadbeat that hasn't paid your citibank bill or 2) It is a scammer using citibanks number as a smokescreen like I described before
- Caller: Citibank
- Call type: Debt collector
- sean replies to skeeterThe 816-420-1002 is a legit citibank automated debt collection number, however scammers have software that shows whatever number they want the caller to see on their caller ID so they are using this number because citibank has millions of customers. If its legit they will leave a message for you to call a 1-800 number and on the message they will give you a code to key in to hear your message. They will never ask for your account number, social, or bank account. They will, however, ask for your billing zip code to verify your identity, or they will ask you to answer one of your verification questions. favorite pet, mothers maiden name etc. but that is all they will ask of you
- 816-420-1007Do not pick up phone calls from 1-816-420-1007. It's spam and fraud.
If you do pick up, you'll be directed to an automated voice machine that will ask you to press a dial number (1, 2 or #) and by doing so they are billing you.- Caller: "SEARS" not true
- JesseJust got a call on my house phone. I didn't answer. I called the number back on another line and all I got was a modem tone. Seams pretty shady to me.
