Asked if this was First name, last name.  I said yes and they hung up.
Researched the number and came across this trail of the same thing happening to many others.

Called asking for the name of someone I have never heard of. I said no one by that name works here. He asked isn't that the head of our IT. I said not at this office. He asked if I could check if he is at another office. I asked if he was a telemarketer. He insultedly stated that it was not. I had him spell the name of the person, and I confirmed there is no one at my company with that name - and he hung up. Jerk.

Got a call from 856-204-0652 on my company phone, he asked "is this ____" (already knowing my name) and I said "yes" and he promptly hung up. Sounded like an Indian guy and I definitely heard noise of other callers (like a call center) in the background

    Same story as everyone else...

"Man with heavy accent called to confirm my name then hung up"

The odd part is that the cell # they called is a business # that I rarely use (or have out in the public)

BEWARE:  I just had a co-worker explain that companies will record the interchange "is this <your name>?" and you replying "yes", and then use that confirmation to justify signing you up for some program, or billing you something...and they will argue with your recorded message that you approved this transaction, although you were NOT answering the question of "do you approve this charge" or "do you want to sign up for this..."

Just got a call from a guy with an indian accent.  Asked for my boss.  Told him he was not available and asked how i could help him (already knowing this was a sales call), he said he would call back.  I told him, no, and to please tell me what this was in regards to.  He said it so fast that I could not understand him.  Had to have him repeat it 3 or 4 times until i finally had him spell it.  He said "ADT - Home Alarms".  I said do not call here anymore about this, and he said it was a business call.  I informed him, that we are not interested and do not bother this office with these calls again.  He repeated it was a business call.  I then asked him his name and he said "Jonathan Smith' yeah, right!  I asked him for his number and he gave a loud *sigh* as if I was annoying him.  He then proceeding VERY QUICKLY to rattle off a number of which i got the first six digits...started with and 410- area code, but call came in as Vineland, NJ.  He then asked, in a tone indicting i was annoying HIM, "do you need anything else", I said he could change his attitude.  I obviously gave him too much of my time, but from reading all of the comments above am glad I bothered him since he has bothered so many others.  I am anxious to see if he trys back.

I received a call from a male with a heavy foreign (Indian?) accent. He kept repeating my name--only he said it last name first. He asked me if I was this person. I asked him where he was from, and he said UPS. Once he said UPS, I foolishly told him I was the person he was asking for. As soon as I did, he hung up.

I looked at my caller ID, and saw the call was from Vineland NJ and the number was 856-204-0652. I called the number, and an automatic answering system answered as MagicJack (www.magicjack.com), but that I had called an unassigned number.

I went to MagicJack's website, and found a "live chat" page (there was no phone number to call):  http://www.magicjack.com/techchat/ . I explained what had occurred, and asked if they could identify the number. I also directed them to this Whocallsme web page. "Pearl" went away for a while. When he/she returned, the following exchange occurred:

Pearl: Please do report this act in to the nearest police department for them to report this to us.

Me: OK, I shall do that. Thank you.

Pearl: To be eligible for your reward, please click here. Your reward instructions will be emailed to you. Thanks again!

Pearl: By the way, Hope you do the survey for me....Your Priceless Kindness is Much Appreciated. Thank you. Take care and stay Blessed always! =)

Me: Are you able to identify the caller?

    (no further response from MagicJack)

Is MagicJack perpetrating what appears to be a phishing scheme?

Since whoever is doing this had my name and phone number, is this an attempt to place fraudulent charges onto my phone bill? (I shall call the phone company to report this.)

I should add that my phone number is not listed in my name. So the caller knew my name (though, as I said earlier, in last name/first name format) and my phone number. But this is not something his organization obtained from the phone company.

Like everyone else.  I was at work, person with Indian accent - basically stated my first/last name.  When I said, yes this is Karen - they disconnected. Decided to google this number. Will not be picking this number up again.

This is very intriguing as this person (sound like an Indian accent) wants to confirm my name when called - then hung up!!! For what reason????? I live in Toronto Canada and the call (area code 856) is from New Jersey?

In the first place why he knows my work number?

Same here, heavy Indian accented male called my business phone which I answered with my name. He asked my name to which I said yes, then he hung up. Other posts say the number is registered to Magic Jack but this jerk probably somehow spoofs their number. I don't have any reason to do business with them so I won't pick up next time.
