Called 3 times Nov. 25 @3:05 pm, 3:51 pm and 4:37 pm.
I did not answer.

It was AAA

I guess this letter could either be titled "Asinine Commercial Practices" or, "Dear Mister Leon’s". After recently moving into a new condominium, my spouse and I decided that our exquisite "dwellings", at least by our financial means, deserved an upgrade with a few furniture purchases. Indeed we went ahead and bought a flat screen TV with wooden base to go along with it, a dishwasher, and finally a round leather coffee table to match up with our sofas. The latter, to a reasonable amount of about $3,500. The personnel at the store were helpful and courteous. Unfortunately the fun stops there. Someone at this company must have smoked boosted grass to actually imagine that their customers would be pleased to be put on a telemarketing list without their knowledge. In fact, no more than three days after our purchase, I started receiving "dead-air" telephone calls on my cell phone. No less than six in one afternoon. Almost every hour I’m receiving an incoming call displayed on my screen – 866 786 3394. "Hello", I was answering, but nothing at the other end, to only cut off a few seconds later. My spouse, she’s the wise one amongst us two, indicated that I could track down the number by doing a Google search. "For crying out loud", I yelped out. There it was, actual people complaining on an internet blog that these calls were coming from a telemarketing company "linked" to Leon’s Furniture Store. Putting two-and-two together I immediately called the local store at which I bought the furniture. The person who responded to my query indicated that if I wanted the calls to stop that I had to call a 1-888 number to ask them to remove me from their list. "Dear Mister Leon’s", if you think this will make you more money by enticing sales, forget it! You are barking up that wrong strategic marketing tree, at least where I’m concerned. Maybe you should have been aware that I never bargain on prices wherever I buy. However, I request quality, service AND respect. By trying to pull off this ridiculous stunt, out goes the respect. Unfortunately for you, in these tough times, you have certainly lost another $15,000 worth of sales. We are in the process of purchasing a cottage in which… ooooppppsss… we will need more furniture. GUESS WHAT…?... we are not purchasing this new furniture at your stores. By the way, you may want to check out the blog I mentioned earlier. Your name is up there, and people are not amused. Dear Mister Leon’s, isn’t there a marketing manager you need to fire?

AAA left an automated voicemail about membership I have not renewed.

Me too!! 2 calls today from good ol' Leons but nobody says anything (I just ordered something from there last week)

I received this call on my cell at 10:22am:

In an effort to reduce paper waste and offer a more convenient service, HBC will be using pre-recorded messages from time to time, with special offers and other important news to this phone number. Our mailing address, is post office box 4135 Station A, Toronto, Ontario S5W 3B7, and phone number 7-866-225-8251. If you wish not to receive this type of message, please call 1-866-786-3394 to be added to our Do Not Call list.  As an example, did you know that HBC offers home and auto insurance through HBC Advancement Insurance Agency?  To learn more about HBC home and auto insurance, call 1-888-306-3310. When you call ask the customer service representative how you can earn up to 80,000 HBC Rewards Points and be entered into a draw for one of three cash prizes."

I got the same phone call, it was HBC calling to say that instead of paper mail statements they are going to leave automated voice messages on your phone.  if you have a bay or zellers card you can call them at 18667863394 to be on their do not call list.

it is leons with a waste of time message

I received 2 calls today. One before 10:00am, the other at 2:45pm.  I missed both of them.  But I mis-interpreted the number as 1-86-xxxx xxxx.  I thought my family called me through IP.  [***], please leave along!

Call came to Kansas on 2-6-09 @11:18 hours. Not answered and no message left. The best idea for this number is that it goes to Tenor CMS Gateway and represents several customers including AAA, PETA, and the large Canadian furnature store Leon's Furnature. On another site, a poster had worked on this number and placed this post in September, 2007, suggesting a Voice Over Protocall outfit:

Nobody on the line when I picked up the phone.

When I called back and was told, like "AF" above that my number did not correspond to any clients (or something like that) and I should enter a phone number. I have Vonage with 2 numbers on it, so I punched in my other phone number and was told they they were trying to contact me concerning the "Leons customer appreciation event taking place this Saturday. Press '1' to be removed from the call list." (which I did.)

Leons is a furniture store and I did make purchases from them and I do receive advertising mail from them.

Based on my experience and the other comments above, I am assuming:

- The company calling (let's call it ANNOY-INC) provides the service of contacting customers from other companies, attempting to automatically inform them of events or provide them with information. Presumably, in addition to Leons Furniture, they also provide this service to Columbia House, AAA, and probably others.
- Your phone number got on the list because you (or the person who had your phone number before you) gave it to somebody.
- When I search for "Tenor CMS Gateway" on Google, I come across a provider of VoIP technologies called QUINTUM.COM, so I'll bet ya that ANNOY-INC bought this technology and set up a phone number under the name of "Tenor CMS Gateway" because that's the name on the VoIP box they bought.
- When you call back they try to match your number (or the number you punch in) against their list of phone numbers, associated with any number of offers/programs/events/promotions/companies etc. and if found can play the appropriate response. For me it was Leons, EJ got some PETA propaganda, Timmy C got Columbia House, etc.
- The reason they can't be heard much of the time is that they're using VoIP and it's hardly the most reliable phone system mankind has invented.
- If you can punch in a phone number they're looking for, I assume pressing '1' will actually you off the list...until I buy something else at Leons."

This number keeps calling me several times a day.
I am on the national do not cll list and they are driving me nuts!

I called the number at it was the TSO but then it gave the option to add to the DNC list so fingers crossed.

Called twice today, I assume it is Leon's as we bought some stuff there recently.

I just got 2 calls from this # on my cell.  I don't answer my cell at work and even then I don't answer calls I don't recognize - especially 800, 866, etc.  Any idea who this is?  The responses I saw on this site were from 2007, so the # has probably changed hands by now.

AAA - automated approval to contact you via the automated call system... They are prempting the federal law which states that they can't call you any more via an automated system unless you ask them too.
