They keep calling and leaving a message for me to call.  I don't owe anyone anything.  How can I get them to stop calling me?

    no name
Actually, I received a letter in the mail from Firstsource Advantage, LLC stating that they want me to call in to 866-880-5589, and that I owed them $136.72. Do not call in!  Once you call in they are able to track your phone number, and they want you to tell them your s.s number and etc.  The return address on the letter is P.O. Box 628, Buffalo, NY 14240-0628. This is a BIG SCAM, and I also do not owe anyone any money!  They are simply trying to retrieve as much information about you as they can to make them sound as if they are ligit.  I personally believe that the message above must be from the fraudster.  How can anyone be ok with someone going through them to track down a family member!

Received several calls from someone leaving a message to call back.  After several calls I decided to return the call. My caller ID showed a name of Jarvis E Haverl 'Out of Area' (No phone number listed).  The number the woman calling said to call back was 888-872-1566.  A Woman answered the phone and then gave the phone to a male person.  The man asked me if I was calling in response to a phone call or letter.  I said phone call and then asked who he was calling for and what was the reason for the call.  He wanted me to tell him my phone number and name.  I would not give it to him so he asked if I was calling from a XXX-XXX-XXXX. I would not confirm if the phone number was mine.  He then asked my name and I told him if he had a phone number he should have a name.  He then said he had 5 accounts on his desk with different names and my phone number was on all of them.  He then asked if I was (name)or (name) or (name).  I got irritated and asked him the name of his company and why was he calling.  He told me the company he was with is First Source Advantage and his name was Sam.  I told him if he could not tell me the reason for the call I was going to hang up, which I did.

I have several things to offer to the comments on here.  I know for a fact that the company is legitimate. For those of you who claim you don't owe money or have no debt -- I would offer the advice to check your credit reports to make sure that there's no fraudulent activity.  You have to realize that the collection company gets your info from their clients and the clients get that info from somewhere.  Could accounts have been opened in your name but not by you in other words?

Secondly, I'd advise that rather than be defensive and so forth when answering the phone, listen to what they are saying.  They are just trying to verify who they are talking to so don't be so defensive.   Also, if you really feel that you are receiving the calls in error and it's a bother to you, then why not just put something in writing and send it via mail to the company?  If you don't do that simple task then either you're not being bothered too badly by the calls or you really do owe the debt.

You must work for them annoyed.  I think they are a bunch of [***], and I think you are too, they don't have the right to call anyone if they don't even know wtf they are calling.  It's a generic message. DUH.  Get a real job.

I know for a fact Firstsource Advantage is a legit company. Federal laws that were put in place to protect YOU keep them from handing out your name and info to anybody that picks up a phone. They HAVE to make sure they're talking to the right person you idiots! Being on a Do-Not-Call list wont' do anything. Collection agencies are not sales companies, or solicitors, so even when you're on those [***] ass lists they can still call you, and it's 100% legal.  If they're calling you by mistake, how about TELLING THEM THAT!  Call them back! Let them know they have the wrong number, and why. Screaming "Wrong number!" and hanging up won't work! The people they are trying to help avoid them like the plague (because they're stupid)..  so it's their job to sift through the lies and find out the facts.  Just be patient, honest, and open. Even if you DO owe money to a collections agency, the best way to handle the situation is to COOPERATE!!!!  They're not scammers, or evil people. They're normal just like you.

I just had an ---hole call me from this company... I would have been more than willing to make arrangements for an old bowflex account that I have... but the man restorted to screaming at me and yelling are you GOING to pay this bill off -NOW- wanted the full amount.  Was hostile and made threats.

This is the nastiest group that I have ever dealt with did not identify themselves as a Debt Collector or read the "script".

I told him to communicate in writing and not call me again.  Would like to send them a cease and desist letter... what they did was beyond harrassment.

They have been calling my home 5-6 times a day.  They all have an Indian accent.  I did owe moeny on a Capital One card from several years ago that had a limit of $200.  There is nothing on my credit report.  When I called back I spoke to a woman and asked when the last activity was on this account and was told 9/5/98.  I explained that I would be sending her a cease and desist because this was way over the statute of limitations and she gave me the fax number right away.  I sent the letter today, so we will see if it works.

For those of you who have said to be honest and open with them, it does not work. I have called them back and told them that I am in a financial crunch at the moment. Yes, I understand I owe them money. However, I also have other pressing bills that take precedent over them at the moment. When I try to tell them that I will pay them as soon as possible, they proceed to tell me how I am no-good, that how do I live day-to-day, I am an irresponsible person. I understand they have a job to do. But I do not think they should be allowed to belittle anyone either.

First Source Advantage is a legit collection company. They have 2 U.S. locations and one in India. I used to work at the one in Amherst, NY. The 800 or 866 number directs you to the team working on a particular client. they handle about 30 or so clients including Capitol 1 Target and BOA.(I worked on Capitol 1) The reason they won't tell you what kind of business it is when you call back is because legally they cannot unless they have confirmed you to be a debtor in their records, as this would violate the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collections Practices Act) by possibly sharing information on your debt to a third party. This is known as known as third party disclosure. Example: You know I called your phone for john smith and you call back and i tell you this is a debt collection agency, you now know that john smith owes a debt. Yes, there are some jerks that work there but for the most part they are regular people. This happens at any job. If they are calling your phone and you don't know the person they are calling for, tell them that. If they keep calling back ask to speak to their supervisor and the sup will take it out. Yes, the sup will again ask you if you know the person they are calling for. Remember, if you are calm and level headed when you contact the rep, you are more likely to get what you want. Hope this is helpful.

firstsoucre is not a scam.  there people try to do there jobs, and make a paycheck every week.  The reason that people are [***] is because as a collector u call people all day and the people you talk to, for the most part a dead beats.  And the reason why when u call in there and they wont tell u something off the bat, is because who is going to stay on the phone when you say your a bill collector?    I will say that we do make wrong calls sometimes.  But when hafe the time you talk to someone and they say "wrong #" and its not.  When to do no when someones lieing.   All these people that say they have so many problems with firstsource why dont u jst pay your bill in the first place.  And dont say well i have no job or some other excuse. There is always a way, take the life style cut for a while.  Or take a part time job its better then nothing. Yes some times u cant pay anything but dont be [***] to the collectors, there jst doing there job the way they where told.

My wife and I laughed our tails off after reading the above post. We see that a degree is definitely not required to work there (apparently not even a grade school education) as grammar is taught in elementary; at least in the U.S.
By the way Mike, we stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night (get it?)!

They are a collection agency, and due to the fact they don't want to disclose YOUR personal information to someone who is not you, they want you to verify that it is actually you, anyone can pretend to be you thats why the ask you to verify your address or birthday or last 4 of your ssn. There are different offices, India, NY, ect.which is why some get accents and some do not. They do send out automated messages because they are called "dialers" and collection agencies do not follow the do not call list, they are not sales people they are collectors. If you don't owe anything then call and find out who they are calling for, if its not you then tell them they have the wrong number and calls will stop, if you don't then calls will continue. They cannot disclose the kind of company they are until they find out if they are calling for you, due to they don't want to give out your information to someone who is not you, i mean would you want them to call your neighbor and tell your neighbor they are a debt collection company looking for you? Then your neighbor knows everything about you, they are legit, they are real, they are real people, they are NOT a scam and because they are debt collectors people will say bad things about them... ex. look up National Action Financial Services, Redline Recovery Services, NCO Group, Allied Interestate ect. all are LEGIT but because people owe money and don't like that they get called get mad and say that are "scams" alls you have to do to find out if you really owe pull your credit report, you get a free one every year... thats what I did.

Collections actually pays VERY GOOD, if your good at it. I've been in the buisness for 17 years, and I bring home usually between 70k-80k a year...thats a dumb old debt collector that needs no degrees. Anyways before you bash collectors, First Source Advantage isn't a scam, go to FTC.GOV and look up the laws, we are not allowed to disclose information, therefore if you call and ask what kind of a buisness we are.. we tell you a "call center" or if you ask what this is about, we say "personal buisness matter" would you like us to give your information out? We have all of your information infront of us including your credit report, if we wanted your information...we wouldn't need to call you, we already have it. We are legit, we don't buy debts, we work for our clients like Chase, Target, American Express ect. we don't own anything, we work for them... they send us the information and we go with it. We skiptrace, which is how we get relatives, neighbors and yes sometimes wrong numbers. We don't want your information, we are there to help you, we are NOT customer service which is where people get everything wrong, if you yell at us.. we will and get nasty. Again the website is FTC.GOV.. and hunny if your getting a letter in the mail, you owe a debt...pull your credit report. And if you get an automated call... and you call back, and arent willing to give your number up ... WE CANNOT TAKE IT OUT OF OUR SYSTEM AS A WRONG NUMBER!!!!!!!!! I am a 40 year old women, I drive a 2009 Altima, I own my house, I have NO debts, I went to college for buisness, but I make more as a collector, my husband is a welder... and I make more money then he does. So don't tell me I'm uneducated, I'm a deadbeat, I make no money... because I bet I make more money then most of you. Again, when talking with a collection agency, yelling and screaming telling us never to call again will never solve anything, talk calmly with us, and explain...pull your credit report before you go off and say we're making things up because if you really didn't use the card...chances are...someone did.
