- Texas Girl| 2 repliesI receive calls from this company-(877) 856-6928 about every 6 months. They call and harrass me, my coworkers, and even my boss!!!! The last time they started this my boss informed them that I was not to have personal calls. They called back the very next day and harassed me again. Two of my coworkers as well as myself told them to not call me at work as I cannot have personal calls on my work phone. I have asked them to contact me by mail at my home address and this doesn't work. They keep threatening with the court case. I have investigated this and in the State of Texas, they cannot arrest you for "hot check" when it is a payday loan because when you apply for a payday loan, they are accepting your check fully knowing that you have no money in your bank account. It is a "hold" check and is not the same as writing a real "hot" check. As well, they can take you to small claims court for the debt, however from all information I have gathered they have to prove that you owe the debt to them. I do not owe the debt to them, I owe it to the company the debt was made to. They buy these debts for pennies on the dollar and then try to take you for even more than is owed. They do not want to give you their address so you can send them the do not call form on the attorney generals website. This is getting annoying!!!

- Pissed Off In Michigan replies to kellyWish you a**holes would quit putting messages up here as if your a consumer!! If you actually took someone to court the judge would probably give them money for harassment!! I have you idiots on tape breaking many laws in the Fair Debt Collection Act!!! I wish you would meet me in a courthouse!!!
- Girl 2 replies to bill payer| 3 repliesAnd your some SCUMBAG who probably steals from old people who don't know any better!! I would rather be a debtor in a bad economy than a SCUMBAG LIKE YOU WHO WILL SOMEDAY ROT IN HELL!! There is no excuse for how these people treat others whether they owe money or not, not every person who is in debt set out to have financial problems and not pay back their debts!! Even if I owed you SCUMBAGS money I wouldn't pay it after being treated they way you treat people!!!
- blame everyone else replies to Girl 2| 2 repliesthe borrower will always be the servant to the lender
- kathy replies to Texas Girl| 1 replyyou do owe them the debt read the contract you entered into it will say if you go delinquent on the debt that all rights and obligations can be sold to a different entity and that's probably what happened and even if they did sell the debt for penny's these companies still have overhead like paying the attorney or the person that calls you and phone services. they probably don't have a mailing service to except you mail in payments or don't believe you will mail the the payment after all your track record isn't so good
wanna stop being annoyed then pay your bill because there gonna at least call you if they cant sue you yet - Girl 2 replies to kathyKathy there are laws about how collectors are supposed to do things, these people (your probably one of them) do things that are illegal and I don't give a fig about their overhead!! In this day and age no one should send money, especially debt payments to someone who won't verify who they are and act like uneduacated a**holes when you talk to them. They obviously aren't educated enough to even speak in a business manner, in my sisters dealings with them they gave her different amounts owed each time they called, they had no written verification what so ever just a voice on the phone and they wanted access to bank #'s and such!! Only a moron would give that out to someone over the phone!! They were saying she had made a payment at one time of such and such amount, which proves she knew about the debt and they would send her written verification if she first sent a certain amount of what she owed??? Gimme a break I'm gonna send you money so you will then prove I owe you money??? How is anyone supposed get rid of debt if they have to deal with scumbags who won't or can't prove you owe them the debt in the first place then yell, threaten and act illegally when you ask for what is legally appropriate in these situations...
- Girl 2 replies to blame everyone else| 1 replyIs that what you tell yourself after a long days work of harassing people for more and likely minimum wage and maybe a commission you earn off the old or uneducated people you threaten into sending you money while you [***] in your studio apartment with the browning, paint peeling walls. How many lenders do you serve [***] because your obviously no Donald Trump off livin the life!!!! I pity you, obviously your one of those power control people who hate themselves so much they have to find a reason everyday to be holier than thou....
- Lil Pistol replies to Girl 2I just wanted to reply to this post. I don't work for this "firm" "agency" but I do work in the collections industry. The pay for a seasoned "Legal" collector is well over 100k a year. Catch is you have to obey the law and collect it legally. People who owe a debt and have signed a contract know they have a responsibility to repay it. Collecting using threats and intimidation is wrong and should not be tolerated.
There will always be those consumers who refuse to pay and thus they are professional debtors. Never waste your time with them. - overit| 1 replySome of I people are complete [***]. First...it is a legotimate job when they are callbg
In regards to your unpaid debt. Don't be a scum pay your [***]. Its ppl like you why our countrys in debt. If u can't pay it back don't take it out. Number two is...ur writing baf checks that nsf to obtain loans wich is attempt to defraud a banking institution. The offices of copeland have Nothing. To do with giove. Instead of coming on here bashing debt collectors who ate the reason our govmnt hss msfe some money....get a damn job and take care of your children and
Debt. You debtors are really stupid to think that all law offices in collections are illegal. It cost 45$ to serve you..and any office would radthet serve than get sued. 45 to serve you to go to court. Unless your in a non garnishable state...u will be garnished and have a judement against you. And if you own a companu it can be takin as a form of liquidable asset or put a lien on it. I'm not a debt collector but I am in pre law now. Nothing they do is illegal when a atty is in the office. - overit| 1 replyTexas girl...stfu u hillbilly [***] [***]. Get your [***] straight hunny....its not a hold check. When you give them dates...amounts..routing and account its a post dated transaction..not a hold. Instead of whining and bitching pay the money you were borrowed bc if it was me and its been 3 years on $400...id come break your leg...
- ElleA bottom feeding debt collection company pretending to be a law firm.. funny how the "lawyer" doesn't have a liscense ANYWHERE! These people are so scummy they don't even care if they have the right people!
They also call from 1-888-415-2809. The idiot on the phone pretended to be a paralegal saying "well how do you think I got this information (my first name LOL), I work in the courts" then proceeded to read me off a bunch of addresses I have never lived at and other last names that I have never used. LOL! Wrong person, you power tripping [***]! He then told me I'd be served by the county, to which I remarked "well considering you have the wrong person, and are reading off addresses from three counties over, go for it and I will sue the hell out of you under the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act".. he hung up.
The audacity of these people is astounding, threatening to sue to wrong person after not even saying for what?! Are you kidding me? I kind of hope they do, because that's a $1,000 per offense so I'd have some nice extra cash if they keep up.- Caller: L Ryan Copeland

- Girl 2 replies to overitFirst off for someone claiming to be entering law school you sure can't put a readable sentance together!!! Secondly the economy sucks and not everyone can find a job easily!! I am a college grad and I graduated with honors, it has taken me over a year to find a job because of the market!!! I never even owed a debt, they were harassing me to get ahold of my sister. None of which really matters because no one should be able to say the things they said or act as they acted. My sister lost her house when my brother in law who has always worked lost his job, they have always paid their bills and through no fault of their own they ended up defaulting on a small loan. OUR COUNTRY IS IN DEBT BECAUSE OF POLITICIANS!!!! THE THINGS THESE PARTICULAR DEBT COLLECTORS SAY AND DO ARE ILLEGAL YOU RETART EVEN IF THERE IS AN ATTORNEY IN THE OFFICE!!! READ THE FAIR DEBT COLLECTION ACT!!! DEBT COLLECTORS ARE THE REASON THE GOVERNMENT HAS SOME MONEY???? ARE YOU KIDDING ME, YOU ARE AN IGNORANT ASS!!
- Girl 2 replies to overitHere's just another example of the way these IGNORANT SCUMBAGS talk to people. This person definately works for these people regardless of what has been written by "it" previously!!! Who breaks someones leg over $400? CRIMINALS!!! YOUR A DEBT COLLECTOR NOT THE MOB [***]!!! Plus if you've read the previous posts these people have been investigated numerous times by legit news stations and magazines who have all said don't pay them. FYI NOT EVERY DEBTOR GOES AROUND BORROWING MONEY OR USING SERVICES AND NOT PAYING FOR THEM CONSISTANTLY. BLAMING THEM FOR THE STATE OF THIS COUNTRIES FINANCES SHOWS WHAT AN IDIOT YOU ARE!!
- JHI received calls from this no. A message was finally left for someone I never heard of. I returned the call and they refused to tell what kind of business they were in. I related that I have detailed records of all their calls--if they are legit. they would identify their business. Beware of this scammer!

- Susan| 1 replyJust received a call from David Swartz with Copeland Law Firm (716-803-8819) telling me I had a bad check. I asked with who and he said "Regions Bank" I said "no, who is the check to" He said some payday loan company I've never heard of. "how much is the check?" He refused to answer, just started with "I see where this is going..." I said that he needed to send me information in writing so that I may verify the debt since I have been the victim of identity theft by my ex husband. He said "oh really? How sad. So how much are you willing to pay to resolve this" Again I asked how much the "debt" was. He went in circles again. I said "where does your law firm practice" No answer. I said "you are nothing more then a collection agency" to which he yelled at me "I have the upper hand Miss and you can expect to be served in 2 days" I said "on what debt?" He said "you will see" and hung up. Oh whatever. I googled the phone number and a website came up advertising it under jobs with collection agencies. Interesting. I have tried to call back but only get some looped recording saying "this is L Ryan Copeland Law Firm, this conversation is being recorded"
