This is Sears Canada offering extended warranties for purchases made through them. They have called every day for a month and 3 of those times we have actually talked to a person and politely declined the warranty for our mircowave. To sweeten the deal they offered to throw in a warranty for a Bissell little green machine that i bought 8 years ago and haven't used in about 5 since I have no carpet or fabrics in my home anymore. They keep insisting we get the extended warranty for the microwave though that we bought an extended warranty on already.... I just ignore the number now. I guess Sears is having some tough financial times - next they will want me to buy a warranty on the snowsuit I got my son 2 years ago...

I have traced this number to sears, they are selling extended warranties, or at least that is what they had for me. I found this out Feb 20/09, and it not a third party calling for sears, it is employees of sears.

The number can be related to several different solicitors all calling from the same call center for different contracts. Sears is one of them and they usually are offering extended warranty on an appliance/electronic item you purchased that has exhausted the manufacturers warranty. Could also be their billing dept if you have missed 60+ days of payments. The reason for the "dead air" is because a computer has dialed your number and will record what time of day the phone was answered: morning, afternoon, evening etc. This info will be transfered to a computer that is monitored by a real person who will then call you again at the time the computer call was answered. This is pretty much the process for all calls of this nature regardless of the company that is calling. So...best way to avoid them is to pick up and if you don't get an answer after your first "hello" start pressing the # on your phone keypad as many times as you can for 30 seconds or so. If a computer did dial your number this will confuse it and it should spit your number out of it's database as an invalid number! If there really is a solicitor at the other end then pressing the # will be really annoying and they should hang up!!

I had the number call me twice.  They are from Sears Canada they say.  I asked the first guy to remove me from their list.  He said, "no"  The second guy said he would.  We'll see.

I placed two calls to the 1-866 number and after speaking with a very rude person, I asked to speak with a manager. Surprisingly, there was none available. Soooo, I went off on a tangent and threatened civil and criminal action for harrassing phone calls. I was told they calls could persit for a couple of days until I was entered on their do not call list. I asked for the person's name with whom I was speaking with and stated that if I receive 1 more phone call, I would sue them personally as I've made notice I do not want to be called at all. The calls have stopped.
