- TravisThis number is the fraud department for Bank of America. It is not a scam. It is not a well publicized number. Just FYI.
- Caller: Bank of America
- Call type: Valid
- SwissI called Bank of America when I received a similar letter and I looked up a different number to call in through since I did not see this number stated on their website. It was legit- we had applied for a mileage card and had no idea it was connected to Bof A. I told her that the number wasn't listed on their website, and they assured me that it was ( it wasn't which is why I was hesitant). It was legit.
- Caller: B of A
- Call type: Valid
- JPFI received a voice message from 866-818-3988. The caller "Ben" said he was from BofA fraud department regarding an application made in my name. He asked met to call him back at 888-230-6262. Both numbers pop up as scammers. I called BofA directly. They confirmed these numbers are bogus and reported to THEIR fraud department.

- Sue NI received a call from 888-230-6262, identifying themselves as the Bank of America credit fraud department. In order to determine if it was a scam, I called Bank of America. I learned it was a legitimate number because I had applied for a credit card. Here is a way to check. Go to this website to check on the status of your credit card application: https://secure.bankofamerica.com/apply-credit ... ication-status/
- Caller: Bank of America

- RThis is legit. BOA Fraud department. They dont ask for any other info except name and the # on the letter. Someone tried to open a credit card in my name and they stopped it. Phone # on the letter was 888.230.6262
- Caller: BOA
- DontFallForThis replies to illyIt IS A SCAM!!! Because NO ONE at Bank of America would send you an authorization code then have you repeat it back to them. With that Authorization Code, you're giving the scammer the authority to drain ALL OF THE MONIES IN YOUR ACCOUNT, and then BoA looks at you suspiciously since this is YOUR AUTHORIZATION code that you provided the so-called "bank representative" from the "Fraud Department." DO NOT FALL FOR THIS!!!

- TeresaI received a letter asking me to call so they could approve my application for a credit card. I never applied to Bank of America so I immediately became alarmed thinking someone was trying to use my identity. Before I did anything I went on line and checked the phone # in the letter and arrived at this site. Thanks for this information...it put my mind at ease.
- MaximThis is a Bank of America number for its fraud prevention unit. I received a letter from BoA asking me to call the number after I applied for a new BoA account. I called BoA's main customer service number and verified that the letter and the 888 number were legit.
- Caller: Bank of America
- Call type: Valid
- FayGot the letter. Called BA at another #. They transferred me to appropriate dept. Contacted Credit Bureaus. Someone had tried to open 2 different credit cards in my name & my social security number was compromised. Put fraud alerts on everything. I don't deal in credit cards.
- Caller: Bank of America
- Call type: Valid
- TomThe effort is still going strong in 2022. I received a call (1/27/22) from 877-754-6707 claiming that a Bank of America Travel Visa was being requesting in my name and asked me to confirm personal information. I declined to give any additional information. The call back number they gave was 888-230-6262
- Caller: "Bank of America"
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- knlnealThis is a legit BOA fraud alert department phone number. I too received a letter in regards to a card application. However, I had not applied for said card, thankfully they checked into the mix matched information prior to issuing card.
- Caller: Bank of America
- Call type: Valid
- HowardI received a letter from BOA with this phone number and the request to call it to confirm an application. I called the actual fraud department number and confirmed that yes, an application with that reference number was submitted and they did want to confirm the personal information. The letter also had my correct credit score on it.
The weird part was that the 888-230-6262 number was unknown by the security associate. So he had no idea if that number would reach them or someone else.
So yes, this is a scam, but in this case the scamming happened online and BOA was just confirming the fraudulent application (it was cancelled, obviously). I'd suggest that rather than calling that number, if you get a communication from BOA, call the number on their website.- Caller: Bank of America
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- NayajjaI think this is a scam. I received a paper letter under a Bank of America logo, claiming they have to hear from me in the next 30 days about a credit card application I made, and that if they don't hear from me they will have to cancel the application. I never applied for anything.
- MEHappy to see I'm not alone with this not looking legit. I received a letter not a call. It is the BOA Fraud Dept and when I did reach them they didn't ask for any personal info including SS #. They resolved the fraud issue and contacted the credit bureau as well.
- Caller: BOA
