This is not a scam, i applied for a credit card and it came back as denied when checking online, i also received a call from this number with the reference number attached to my application, i called back the only thing they asked for was my email and sent a text to the number i had listed on the application, they are part of the fraud department, they approved the application,  i went back to review the application after the call and it showed approved. they are legit

Do you always lookup and post about numbers you know are "legit"? Seems shilly to me.

Based on prior posts, I would be very careful about calls from this number. Many reports of BoA disavowing this number and the calls. If you have an application pending with BoA, it is safer to call them on a number you know is good if you want to get updates on your application.

Called the number and spoke with Mario who was willing to give me his employee ID number in order to verify that this is specifically the "Bank of America Application Fraud" phone number.  The number is used to call people if fraud, specifically in a credit card APPLICATION, is suspected.  In addition, Mario suggested that I call Bank of America using any of the published numbers and request to be transferred to this department. I did so using the credit card customer service number published here:
    https://www.bankofamerica.com/customer-service/contact-us/credit-card/
I got "Thank you for calling Bank of America.  This call may be monitored for quality assurance purposes."  A rep came on the line and I said, "I'd like to be transferred to the Credit Card Application Fraud" department.  I was transferred.  Got a rep but forgot her name.  Asked what number I should call to get to this department, she said 888-230-6262.
Don't take my word for it or anyone's for that matter.  Try it yourself; especially if you've put in an application.  Avoiding scammers is important but so is getting important information about your account or application.

Now, as B-Edwards pointed out, if you've put in a credit card application and receive a call from this number, it's best to still call the published number and request to be transferred but, one more thing, Mario also told me that fraudsters like to add doubt to such phone calls in an attempt to divert attention from their fraud attempts.  So be safe.  Call the published number and tell them you got a call from this department.  They will get you to the right person.

In Summary:  If you get a call from this number about possible application fraud, you don't have to trust it but don't ignore it either.  Call the published number and get to the bottom of it.
