Called me at 2pm on a Sunday.  Left a voicemail of incoherent automated nonsense, most of which I could barely even pick up. Absolutely a scam.

I called the BofA fraud line.  My information was compromised.   Someone applied for a credit card under my name.   BofA opened an investigation.

You called them and then looked the number up? Why would you do that? Sounds like a lie to me.

It's a legit number. It's provided in a letter that BOA has been sending out since at least 2008 when they want to talk to someone who may/may not have filled out an application for a credit card with them or one of their affiliates. I recently received a letter from BOA on 3/30/2023 with this same number (888-230-6262) typed within the letter, asking me to call them regarding the recent application I filled out for an Alaska Airlines Visa Signature card. I didn't call the number initially, instead I looked up BOAs fraud number and called them directly. They confirmed the number as being theirs and valid and is their fraud number. They found the application that someone had filled out in my name and shut it down before anyone got a hold of my info.

I received a letter with "Bank of America" on the letterhead.  The contents of the letter wanted me to call BofA to verify information on my application for a BofA credit card.  Since I already have a BofA credit card and have not made another card application I contacted BofA.  I was advised that an application for a card was made in my name on April 17th.  I googled the 888 phone number that the letter advised to call and discovered this page.  BofA stared a fraud case and we'll just wait and see.

SOMEONE is trying to apply Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards Visa Signature Card and need to verify the information on the application.  I did not apply a credit card thru BOA.  Reference number:  4159429680 - its a FRAUD, FRAUD AND FRAUD.

RED FLAG 🚩 This (888-230-6262)  is NOT a legitimate number for Bank of America credit cards. It is off by one digit: s/b 888-231-6362. Fraudulent!

I received a voicemail from 888-320-6262, stating were calling from Bank of America Fraud Dept ", to call back with Reference number 4180664069 regarding some suspicious activity with my information.  When I called the ring tone sounded like an international call, then I heard a click, like someone activated a recording device or something.  I hang up and block number right away. Be aware,  Do not Answer questions. Also they gave me the days and hours available for the fraud dept, we know that in USA they are open 24/7. Stop being naive and check things before giving your information.  Stay Safe.

I received a call from some one that was supposoed to be with Bank of America.  They left the number 888-230-6262 and a reference number.  I called BOA's number on my credit card.  They said there is no alert  on my account.  I suspect the 888-230-6262 is a fraudulent call.

I received a call from a person claiming to be an agent from Bank of America.  They said the were calling "regarding a financial request we received in your name"  They asked me to return their call at 888-230-6262 and gave me a reference number to use.  I looked at the number on the caller ID it matched up with Bank of America's fraud dept. number on their website.  I did not open any new lines of credit.  I did not call them but called Bank of America and after transfers to 3 different departments, they said they would open a fraud investigation and shut down any pending lines of credit and let me know by mail if there were any found.  The agent said it could be a scam.

This number is a valid Bank of America fraud department line but remember that any caller can spoof their number.

After a BoA card application I received a voicemail from this number - notably it mentioned an application reference number that matched the legit reference number I got when I applied. Out of an abundance of caution I called a credit card customer support number on the BoA website, and after getting transferred a couple times they told me to call this number!

So it's legit. But if you receive a call, always safer to hang up and call them back, since callers can spoof their number, but when you call a legit number, you're good.

I went to the Bank of America Website and they actually said it was real and someone was trying to open a credit card with them under my name. They didn't take any information from me but suggested I call either Equifax or Transunion to report this so an alert could be placed and no one could open new accounts without speaking to me and verifying it's me.

Thank you for this, as it happened to me and you are correct, someone did try to open a card in my name and I did not have to give any information to them other than the reference number given to me in my voice mail.

Got a letter in the mail with this phone number on it and a reference number. I submitted a credit card application recently. I was able to check the reference number against the reference number on my application.
Called the number and was able to get my application completed.
