- Charles| 1 replyI just got off the phone with Bank of America (used online contact # listed when I sign in not the one I received in a letter 888-230-6262). Spent at least 20 minutes on the phone with them, 2 different security/fraud departments. They assured me the letter I received was fraudulent and that phone # wasn't theirs.
- SusanI received a letter from Bank of America claiming information on a mastercard that I do not even have nor applied for.

- MerriI got a letter in the mail today asking me to call this number to verify information on my application for an Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard. I of course had not applied for this so I called the number. On hold for almost 10 minutes with horrible muzak, looked up BOA's number online and called that instead. Many transfers later and I'm back to that horrible muzak! So yes, it's legit BOA, someone did try to open a credit card under my name and I was able to get it cancelled thanks to that letter.

- VThis is a genuine BofA number. I called the official BofA number to double check.
If you got a letter with this number that says you applied for a credit card or whatever and you didn't apply for any card, call Bank of America's fraud line immediately. Chances are someone stole your identity and applied for the card on your behalf.- Call type: Valid
- StevenGot a call from this number and didnt answer..message left was Bank of America Fraud Alert and gave me a number 888-230-6262 to call along with a number code. I looked at my Credit Report and someone had tried to take out CC from BOA. I called the 6262 number provided them with the code and they put a block on the Application and also gave me the number to Transunion which is one of the CC reporting agency. I called their number and told them i was a victim of fraud and they noted it which will be sent to the other two Credit Reporting Agencys so this won't happen again.

- MariaThis number is not a scam; VM left from 877-833-5617 stated they were calling from BOA and asked that I return call to 888-230-6262 with ref # Axxxxx. I called BOA 800-432-1000 listed on website and rep (Crystal) confirmed 888# was valid and found an outreach to me from that number (fraud dept). Contacted # and rep wanted to confirm if an application was submitted by me on 8/21. No personal data was asked of me. They sent me a BOA auth code by text and proceeded with additional details.

- L replies to CharlesThis is absolutely a good number. I spoke to someone re a letter I got about an attempt to get credit using my name, address, and soc sec. It was not me. I DID NOT NEED TO GIVE ANY INFO TO THE REP I WAS CONNECTED TO! He told me to contact the credit reporting agencies. He marked the attempts as bogus and removed them.
I then additionally called the regular bank customer service #, and after a few minutes of search the regular customer service rep told me that the # I had called, which seemed legit to me, IS legit, and IS listed with Bank of America. - Steven D WrightReceived a letter from Bank of America saying that airline visa signature card was applied for, and they need a verification at the #1888-230-6262.
- kgSCAM!!! I called and got put on hold by a robotic attendant for a LONG time. There was no music, no regular announcements about please be patient, just silence...forever. Then I hung up, and looked up the REAL BofA phone # and spoke to fraud dept. They said they do NOT recognize 888-230-6262 as a BofA number. SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Chris SI received a letter advising about a supposed application for an Alaskan Airlines credit card through BofA. I called the number which was answered pretty quickly by a pleasant woman claiming to be in a call center in Texas. I gave her my name and a reference number which was printed on the letter. Then she asked for my DOB and SS# claiming she needed it to look up any additional fraudulent applications which may have been made in my name. She told me she could give me her "ID number" to assure me she was legitimate. I refused to give her the information and told her I would call the published BofA customer service number to speak with the fraud department. When I did, it was determined the letter was fraudulent, though a credit application had been submitted in my name. We speculated they were trying to get the final pieces of information to submit to open the credit line.

- LisaMy husband received two letters claiming that he applied for 2 different credit cards at Bank of America, even though he had not so. One had this number on it as a call back. My husband called Bank of America through their main number (did not call the one on the letter just in case it was fake). The bank said that there were two applications in his name, so I assume that the letters were real, and therefore the number is real as well. They cancelled the applications and recommended that we have our SSN blocked at experian.com to prevent further attempts at fraud from getting so far.

- Security GuyThis number is actually Bank of America's fraud number. I reported it as a scam number to a friend who works on the BofA fraud team, and he let me know it is actual their legitimate number. It must be so frustrating to be one of their call center workers. Anyway, I've let my friend know they need to post this number on the BofA website! Oh, and whoever tried to open a card in my name...no card for you!

- MJKSo, I got a VM from "Bank of America Consumer Fraud Dept." asking I call (888) 230-6262. They did not say it was about a new credit card application. So, I called the main BofA credit card number and spoke with consumer fraud who said there were no problems with my account. Based on comments here, I mentioned that it may have to do with a new application for a new credit card. I was told that the dept that processes new CC applications has its own fraud dept and was given this same number. When they transferred me, it was about an application I had submitted about 3 weeks before. So, short story is that this is a legitimate number for BofA new credit card application processing fraud department.
