Canceled my service 3 or 4 months ago.  They charged $150 to my card eventhough I no longer had the service.  They kept trying to charge me.  Called the bank and canceled the card.  Did not get my money back.  I called and canceled , disconnected their modem etc and still they indicate I have dial-up.  Someone in India said they would cancel the service.  NEVER DID!  Who do I talk to about this abuse.  I don't want to be harassed!!!

Their "customer service" practices are so extreme.  When I called to cancel my service, they said that I was on a new contract because they had recently sent me a new modem!  I've been using the same, old crappy modem for years.  After arguing for an hour, they agreed not to charge me for canceling the service.  Surprise, surprise, they charged me.  Now they keep calling my cell phone.

I got a call too. It appeared to be Earthlink trying to collect a back bill. My credit card on file had expired. They were from India. He kept talking, and I just asked if I could update my credit expiration date online, and pay the bill that failed because my credit card on record has expired.

He said I could, but kept talking to me. He did give me some information that demonstrated he was probably from Earthlink (my mothers maiden name, etc.) but given he was from India and I could barely understand him, I didn't feel like giving out my CC info over the phone.

Note the phone number was 888-327-8454 but the caller ID reported msc-vip4.nj.itx which is no doubt a part of a IP address using some VoIP service.

While I do believe the call to have been legit, as I mentioned, I wasn't comfortable giving out my CC info to someone who barely spoke English. Earthlink, listen up!

Go to http://support.earthlink.net/contact/phone/ and a pop-up live chat window should open up so you can find out why they're calling you.

I received several calls from this number as well. But these people identified City Prepaid Services. What's this about?

Earthlink! Why don't they just leave a message? I don't answer 888 calls. But I had to get a new credit card, so they weren't getting paid. If they just would have said who they were, I would have realized why they were calling.  Were they just going to wait until my service shut off and let me call them? Had to google the number just to find out.

Called me numerous times, but never left a message, and when I called back, got a fake sounding "official" voice recording. Reading these other reports it is clear these are scam calls.  Warning: DO NOT EVER GIVE OUT YOUR PERSONAL INFO TO ANYONE WHO CALLS YOU.  If they say they are Earthlink, you can hang up and look up the official Earthlink customer service number and make a complaint about the fraud attempt.

i recently got identity thefted and somehow, magically, got signed up for an earthlink account. all the other companies i called and filed complaints with were super easy-going and sympathetic (even all the porn sites the thief signed up for understood). anyway, once i called earthlink, i gave them the same old story i gave everyone else, "my debit card information was recently stolen and i have a charge to you guys that i didn't approve." i'm pretty sure i just gave him my name and said, "yes, there is a $9.54 charge on this account, did you want to go ahead and pay?" baffled, i repeated myself, "no, this account is not mine. i did not authorize to open it. whoever stole my card did." this went on for a few more minutes until he told me that he had closed my account. and then i kept getting these phone calls from this number. just like everyone else says, never leaving a message. i called back a few times to just double check that the account had been closed. one time they told me that it was. another time they told me i had a connection with comcast. nope, no i don't. then they'd transfer me to dead lines. i'm hoping with everything i have this crap doesn't destroy my credit.

Have been receiving calls from this number for 2 days. It is in fact Earthlink. They demanded that we pay with a credit card over the phone that moment. We refused and asked for a bill to be sent, even though we have already paid the account. They also demanded we pay this past month's charge, even though we asked them to discontinue the service a month ago. We did a little research and found a phone number for Corporate customer service in Georgia. YES, an English-as-first-language call center. It's actually for three people who report to the president of the company. They wiped out the charge, apologized profusely, and did not sound happy about how the caller from India treated us. Maybe you'll get lucky too. The number to call is (404) 815-0770. Good luck!

Remember that when you give your credit card number to someone over the phone, if the call is to India or other offshore services, it is not illegal for the number to be taken (no laws exist or enforced).
Operators can sell collected numbers to criminals with no liability of the the original theives that started the identity theft using your information.  Every add you reply to seen on TV services their billing from countries that do not have laws to protect you from identity theft.  Give them any information almost guarantees problems for you.

My credit card expired too. I've been a customer for 5 years, for one payment of 9.95, they turned me over to what seems like a collection agency. The number says "caller unknown", the accent is indian, and the manner is rude and impertinent. Plus Earthlink gave them all my personal information - I can't believe this.

I logged on to the Earthlink site and found that I cannot cancel my account unless I send them a certified letter! I am sending final payment by check - I would not trust these guys with a credit card - and I am cancelling my Eartlink account. Any business that treats customers like this is not worth doing business with.

To all of you who don't want to deal with the sing-song folks in India you won't like the following:
The IRS has outsourced their 800 help lines  - I know I called the IRS the other day.
I am also lead to beleive your 1040-type forms will be processed there as well.
The good news is Obama put $80 million in the recent stimulus package to assist the laid off IRS workers.

"THEY" didn't "TAKE" our jobs. It's the top level managers at Earthlink (probably Americans -- they might even live in your own state) who decided to shop around the world for cheaper labor so they could make more profits for their greedy shareholders (also probably Americans who might live in your own state).

The people who live in India, the people who you refer to as "THEY" are just working people like you and me who are trying to make a living so they can feed their families. They sit at the kitchen table and look at ads in the newspaper trying to find a job just like we do. They fill out job applications and hope someone will hire them just like we do. Maybe they are saving for their kids education or trying to buy their first house, or pay for their family's medical bills.

If you want to blame someone stop blaming the Indian people, and start looking at the practices of those Americans who own American businesses and don't care about people like me or you -- or the people of India for that matter. They don't care about jobs, they don't care about American workers, they don't care about your mortgage or your retirement, or your medical bills, or the effect of their practices on your community. All they care about is making as much money as possible for those American people who are wealthy enough to own a huge amount of their stock, so they can live in multi-million dollar homes in exclusive American neighborhoods that people like you and me can only dream about.

I've received 6 calls a day from this number and when I call back, I found it's from Earthlink.  I don't have an account, nor have I ever. So far I made 2 calls to complain and was asked for my name.  I told the representative I wouldn't give them my name because they have my number and have been calling like crazy 6 times a day, everyday even though I have no association with the company!
