Yes, this is Earthlink bill collection outsourced out of India. I got a phone call from 9188883278545 and this is an international long distance number; this is out of India. When I called the number back, my provider told me it is an international number, something my plan does not cover.  Heck, I was late on a 21.95 payment for only 5 days. (never been late with a payment for seven as it comes out of my checking automatically).

    It is Earthlink.

I just got a call from someone at that number yesterday.  They asked for Dave and I said they have the wrong number.  They asked me to confirm my number and then I got suspicious.  After they hung up i tried to call them back and got nothing like it was blocked.  So I Goggled the number and found the Who Calls Me website.  They did not mention Earthlink

I just got a call on my cell phone from this number, except it appeared as an international number - 0118883278454.  Seeing that I'm in the United States, it didn't seem to make much sense that I'd be getting an internationally-formatted call, but yeah, if they're actually rerouting it from India, I suppose...

Thing is, I dropped Earthlink's internet service over two years ago, because I got tired of waiting (after nearly 8 years!) for them to provide broadband service in my area (mind you, a reasonably well-populated suburban area, and not the middle of the boondocks).  I'm quite happy with my current provider, so Earthlink can take a hike!

It's Earthlink for sure. I spent hours on the phone through several levels dealing with a persistent problem today, including time with supervisors and a bit of "speaking my mind". They called apparently during dinner, no message, no caller ID. I'd understand follow-up calls on their part ("Did we do ok? Are things working better? Were you pleased? bla bla) and I'd be responsive. But not un-ID'd non messages ringing my phone &/or identified by my voicemail, without a message. No thanks. I've got Verizon for that. (Not a scam, at least...)

Funny... First thing I did was shoot the # into Google and it led to whocallsme (this) and a link to an Earthlink page with this ("do not call") number.  Anyhow: It's a fact. It's Earthlink.

My credit card expired years ago, but Earthlink keeps billing it.  I sent them a payment and a letter last year, telling them to cancel the account as I no longer use it.  In fact, I do not remember the passwords.  Well, this year came aroun and they are doing it again.  Billing an extinct credit card for an account I told them to close last year.  They are an awful company. I doubt I will ever be able to get rid of them.

*****Contact the BBB's Atlanta, GA office and file a complaint.  I filed on one 3/30/11 and today it has been resolved (supposedly) 4/4/11****** The process was simple and handled very well by the BBB. (THANK YOU!!!!!)  The BBB needs to know about these complaints.  If everyone times the few minutes necessary to file a complaint, I am sure we can put some unemployed people in Atlanta back to work handling the Earthlink complaints.

These calls will go on unless you take a stand.

Phone call from this number listed as "Toll Free" at 8:47 a.m. on Sunday, May 15.  Knowing from checking the ID on whocallsme that it was likely to be a legitimate call about my Earthlink account (not a telemarketer) I picked up the phone after the 3rd ring, and the line was dead.

I went to Earthlink's "Live Chat" to handle a billing problem that resulted from Earthlink's own stupidity and which I had tried to fix the day before online.  (Earthlink had sent me an email earlier saying that my credit card had expired -- despite listing an expiration date 6 months in the future -- so I changed the card.  The site then gave me a message that the new card would be used for the NEXT billing cycle.  So I wasn't surprised that the robo-calling "service" came through with another call today.)  After some problems identifying myself, because they asked for my mother's maiden name, when the question was supposed to be her middle name, I got the billing straightened out and told the service tech what a rotten robo-calling system they have.  She promised to forward my complaints to "the concern department."  I pointed out that they have a lot of angry people posting about them on the internet, and they need to do something about it.

Well -- so much for customer support fixing the problem of getting robo-calls from Earthlink.  I just got another call from this number at 10:24 a.m. (another Sunday morning call).  Again nobody on the line when I picked it up.

Same problem as many people above, I canceled my account when DSL became available in our area and they continually billed me month to month after, and any time i called in to dispute it was put on hold for hours, then told I needed to pay the next bill to cancel my service.  Going through the credit card company is basically the only way to quit their service once you've signed up, then they started harassing daily with calls both super early in the morning and late at night, when I call in and complain that my account is canceled they won't even check it unless I pay the bill first, scummy business practices, they can keep calling all they want, I'm blocking their number and reporting to the BBB.

Follow up to my previous message, to help anyone else out getting these alls  The better business bureau is the way to go to get this resolved, within 3 days of filing the complaint I received an apology letter and a refund from earthlink, and the calls stopped immediately.  their BBB profile is located here, along with the case history of thousands of other billing complaints http://www.bbb.org/atlanta/business-reviews/i ... -atlanta-ga-679

The folks at the BBB rock!

Received a phone call today from this number on my cell phone number.  The man, with an accent sounding like he is from India, identified himself as being with Earthlink.  He said that the phone number that they had on file was not reachable, and that was why he was calling this one.  He asked me for my mother's maiden name.  I challenged him by saying how do I know who you are other than who you say you are.  He tried twice to get me to give my mother's name.  I refused.  He asked that I follow up online with them.  Note:  I normally receive an email from Earthlink if there is any problem with the automatic monthly payment of about $5. So, this was very suspicious.  Do NOT give them any personal information, althought they already appear to have access to name and number.  The number displayed on my cell phone, no name of caller given.

The DNC registry is a joke. Scammers call anyway from different phone #'s. If someone is actually there when you answer, then they may claim they will remove your number, but they don't. Then they sell, rent, loan, trade or in any other way send your info to other scammers.
If I'm in the mood, I will answer the call to waste their time, cuss them out, tell them what I want to see happen to them (true crime movies/books are great for ideas), or do the standard whistle, airhorn, scream, etc into the phone.
Surprisingly, they normally don't call more than once after a strongly worded suggestion--although I'm sure they send the phone # on to another scammer.
Just once, I would like to see bad things happen to these bad people instead of good, honest hardworking people getting harmed from a bad occurance. That would be a win-win for everyone. Sort of like getting rid of cockroaches throughout the world.

Okay, after seeing all the comments on this page, I guess it's EarthLink.

Except my family's never had EarthLink :|
And it shows up as an international number on my phone, with 011 before the 888 part.

Does anyone know how to get them to stop calling? It's getting really annoying.
