Gone for a week - return home and listening to the answer machine, "URGENT MATTER - return call now - 1.866.408.8299, number they left to call - OMG - what bill didn't get paid, have plenty to cover all bills - NOT living PAY check to PAY check - sometimes it feels like it thou..ha ha .. So I call them and tell them - you guys called me - what is the urgent bill I didn't pay? - and she asked me if this was Morris - I said no, it was Martin - she said she couldn't talk to me and I said if it was a bill - my name is on it too - so what gives? Please pass the message on to Morris.  O.K. thanks. - then I looked it up on the internet - TACCAR Inc. - and found this website.  I think I will update my message after Morris calls.

These folks work for a collection agency and, from what I can tell from my research so far, that company (Takhar) is owned by a parent company called Colwell & Salmon. Takhar's Web site is http://www.takhargroup.com/#. Colwell & Salmon's Web site is http://www.colwell-salmon.com/index.php. Takhar has called me from a couple different 518-area code (New York) numbers, including 518-724-3560, 518-482-1596 and 518-694-5465. Their headquarters, not surprisingly, is located in Noida, India, which obviously explains all the Indian-sounding people who call. According to "Frank Taylor," who is my assigned Indian, I owe, like $599 for a debt I incurred from a company I've never heard of. So here's what I did: I sent them a letter, via certified U.S. mail, requesting validation of the debt they say I owe. Here's a good Web site to get a great sample validation letter: http://www.creditinfocenter.com/forms/sampleletter9.shtml. Anyhow, so far, these people have not sent me any validation explaining the debt they say I owe so, according to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, 15 USC 1692g Sec. 809 (b), I don't have to do jack until they do and I'm satisfied it's accurate. Actually, by law, ANYONE attempting to collect money from you has to provide you this information, AT YOUR REQUEST, before you're obligated to pay them anything. If they don't - IN WRITING, ON PAPER - you aren't obligated to do a damn thing. Anyhow, I hope this info helps at least someone. Good luck!

I just received the same message as Valerie (above). I did a reverse phone look-up without results, so I came back to this site (knowing that I'd find out who it was).

I have called Takhar Group TWICE to tell them to STOP calling me. The calls stopped for a time, but obviously those SCAMMERS don't get the message easily. This time I'm going to more than WARN them. I'm going to start making calls of my own...to the phone company to report them for harassment/telephone fraud, the Massachusetts Attorney General, and anyone else I can think of to put a thorn in their butts and make them stop.

I'd like to HIGHLY recommend this website http://www.consumerfraudreporting.org/debtcollectionscams_what_to_do.php to anyone receiving calls from a debt collector.

Debt collection scams are on the rise. If you're as sick of these jerks as I am, and want to protect yourself, file a complaint against them, get them to stop contacting you, or even sue them...The above website has information you need.

Or, just Google search "debt collection scams" and check out a few websites of your choosing.

I also receive John Baker's phone calls, about 30 a day.  But he only knows my work number, not my home phone.  He's really rude, hangs up on us, and immediately calls back.  I work at a hospital and he's driving all my co-workers crazy.  We've been transferring calls to the police department.  They've done some searches and believe he's calling from another country, but unfortunately they really can't do nothing about that.  We tried tracing calls, but usually no luck, once they were able to trace to a fax line.  Now we're working on getting these calls blocked, just hopefully I don't lose my job first.

This group is a total scam and lets hope they all fall hard for the low lives they are.  They start with a rude and highly threatening sounding recorded message and when you call the number back because you've been told by the recording that 'to not return the call will result in a settlement against you' and that this is the only opportunity to defend what ever action they are taking against you.  Everything is very vague but you are led to believe that whatever it is you are already in the wrong.  Report these calls to your local authorities and do not fall for their threats, they are no better than scum bags and are only trying to defraud people.

This company is bogus.  Neither I or my partner have ever shopped with BMG but this company insists on trying to collect.  We have requested verification under the FDCPA and they have not been able to do so; therefore they will NEVER be able to sue me or collect.  Further, they are not authorized to transact collections business in the state of Wisconsin (at least not at the time I posted this).  If they try, contact the State Dept. of Financial Institutions which regulates their industry here and report their illegal activity.  I would also contact Attorney General Van Hollen's Office and report it as well as the Federal Trade Comission.  As always when dealing with alleged collectors DO NOT verify any information (not even your name or address) and never agree to any terms without something in writing sent to the address they have on file.

THANKS SO MUCH for your input!  My answering machine recorded exactly the same message just a few minutes ago, and I was taken aback by the rudeness of whoever-the-hell it was phoning  -  now I know.  If they call again, I'll file a complaint with the Attorney General's office.  Frankly, I'm sick to death of hearing that Indian accent every time I try to settle a billing or tech problem.  Don't they have some OTHER way of earning a living over there??

A Dwayne Johnson called me about ten times yesterday, I finally spoke to him and he would only say I owed 78.00 to a book club.  I have no idea what he is talking about.  I refused to pay until I had something in writing.  He called again today and I told him it was illegal to call after he just talked to me yesterday, if it is a debt collection and he has spoken to me, the supposed accountholder, he isn't allowed to call again for 7 days.  He h/up on me.  Ten minutes later he called back under a different last name.  I asked for a supervisor.  I got Mark Evans, he said that there was no notation of a Dwayne Johnson speaking with me today.  I told him I was filing a complaint with federal agencies and I was not paying a supposed bill until I see a hard copy.  They are supposedly sending me a bill.

They thought I was stupid. I never cussed so much in my life. I'm 18 years old, and I'm so glad my mother told me that it is only possible to report things like that on your credit with your SSN, like two days before they called. PRFECT TIMING, because I probably would have done the unfortunate thing. The man didnt even spell the name of the company that was trying to scam me right. These A*sholes are rediculous. They were rasing there voices at me, so I had to show my unmannerable side. They definantly had an India accent. I was given no names whatsoever. I was offered to speak with the "supervisor" so I did. He was asking me all kinds of questions that were none of his damn buisness, so I only listened to them try to persuade me to be silly and give them my information, Silently and and that really pissed them off. :) I was very proud of my slef and the way I handle the situation.

I am a long time manager of a motel and they insist two tenants who I have never heard of owe them a debt from BMG. I finally managed to get to speak with a live person who insisted that as they are not tenants the motel was liable as we supposedly have rented to them!

He then insisted I give him the motels business credit card details so he could cancel the debt and stop the time wasting calls (at least one per day). When I refused and asked for details in writing he hung up on me.

As of today (Dec 10th 2009) they are still calling at least once a week and always with an automated message asking you to either call or visit their website.

To anyone reading this I would say insist on getting everything in writing as they seem to be a 100% scam.

I also have been getting calls from this company, at first it was the generic robo calls demanding and immediet call back, or a decision would be made without my input.  Monday there was a voice mail from a surly sounding woman who thought I could at least extend the curtesy of a return call.  I called back and this woman told me she was trying to collect on a dept that I had already paid.  She asked if I had paid to the Takhar Group or the deptor.  I told her I paid the deptor and she did not like that.  She said I would have to fax her the letter I would have been sent by the deptor confirming the dept was paid. I told her I have never recieved such a letter from any company ever.  As a rule they send out an invoice when they want to collect money, not when they have recieved it.  She again tried to bully me into agreeing to make a payment.  I told her I had no proof she was who she claimed to be and could be calling from anywhere, so she gave me the website address.  Instead of typing in the whole address I just typed Takhar Group into Google.  It is does not reflect well on the company when one of the options Google provides ends with the word scam!

I just got a new cell phone. Received a call from Tahker group which took 4 times playing the voicemail to figure out what they were saying. Of course nearly ALL the call centers are in India-big business in Bangalore. Anyway I call back and leave a message stating I am not willing to speak with anyone unless they tell me about their business, corporate address and the specific reason they are calling me.
Hell I might tell them to send me a D+B report before I'm willing to talk to them.

Here is the piont however... I recently applied for a couple new jobs and one was with the state. The last time i applied with another number I got a debt call so perhaps that is where they get these numbers?  Of course an 11 year old will not be applying with the state so not sure.

I have been receiving calls over the past several months from "Takhar Group" stating that I owed a debt to Columbia House DVD Club.  I told them I wanted something mailed to me indicating the validity of the debt.  They said they don't do that, but directed me to their web site with an account number to log in to pay on my debt.  I called Columbia House DVD Club and I explained that I was trying to settle a debt with them and that Takhar Group had called me regarding the debt.  The woman I spoke with explained they don't use Takhar, but used another collection agency.  She gave me their phone number and my account number.  I called the collection agency Columbia House referred me to and they said they had my debt and told me what I owed - only $99.  Takhar had been trying to collect a much higher amount from me.  They also told me that they did not sell off my debt to any other company and still had it in house.   Takhar Group is a scam.  I refer to it as extortion.
