- K| 1 replyGot a call from this number - they didn't say anything at all. Just heard typing and laughing in the background for a minute and then they hung up. But now that I know what they're up to from reading these posts I know what to do if they try again. Because as far as I know, everyone I know is still alive and well. Also, it's illegal anyways for collections agencies to trawl for relatives/friends/whatever of deceased persons to try and get them to pay someone else's debts.

- common sense replies to STEVE DONALDSONIf a person dies and leaves his bank account with $50,000 of course the family wants their money, but OMG let the family find out he also left a $2,000 debt. Nobody wants to take care of that. So when you go to try to obtain the funds the bank will tell you that you will need to go through the courts to have funds transferred to you. So you have to open a probate with the courts. Everyone is under the impression that the debt dies with the debtor. Far from being a fact. Just as the bank funds don't just disappear because the person passed away, the debt will still remain to await and see if it could be payed through either a probate or trust
