- mikeI want this person to stop calling me
- Maggie B.Got a voice message from a Sherry Hughes (?) saying she was calling from the legal department of ACS & Associates re: case #189852, that there were a series of complaints and allegations filed against my name and social security number. She said to call her back at 888-878-5206 to her direct line at extension 227. My credit is excellent and I pull my credit reports from all three bureaus regularly. After reading other postings here, this sounds like a scam. Still, I'm a bit concerned because someone fraudulently used one of my credit card numbers a few months ago and I already had to have the account closed, check my credit report, etc. I certainly don't like being put into fear!!!

New Variation on Telephone Collection Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
02/21/12—The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) continues to receive complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. As previously reported in December 2010, the typical payday loan scam involves a caller who claims the victim is delinquent on a payday loan and must make payment to avoid legal consequences.
Callers pose as representatives of the FBI, “Federal Legislative Department,” various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies and claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, or other Internet check-cashing services. The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment in attempts to obtain payment. The callers refuse to provide information regarding the alleged payday loan or any documentation and become verbally abusive when questioned.
The IC3 has observed variations of this scam in which the caller tells the victim that there are outstanding warrants for the victim’s arrest. The caller claims that the basis of the warrants is non-payment of the underlying loan and/or hacking. If it’s the latter, the caller tells the victim that he or she is wanted for hacking into a business’ computer system to steal customer information. The caller will then demand payment via debit/credit card; in other cases, the caller further instructs victims to obtain a prepaid card to cover the payment.
The high-pressure collection tactics used by the fraudsters have also evolved. In one recent complaint, a person posed as a process server and appeared at the victim’s job. In another instance, a phony process server came to a victim’s home. In both cases, after claiming to be serving a court summons, the alleged process server said the victim could avoid going to court if he or she provided a debit card number for repayment of the loan.
If you are contacted by someone who is trying to collect a debt that you do not owe, you should:
■Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger;
■Contact your bank(s) and credit card companies;
■Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file;
■If you have received a legitimate loan and want to verify that you do not have any outstanding obligation, contact the loan company directly;
■File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.

- leesa replies to HomeMom1963shame on you for posting that they are legit. you definately work for them. I curse you and your scamming company
- Linda Dawson| 11 repliesNOT A SCAM. They have the rights to outstanding loans that haven't been paid off (and you can whine and gripe all you want about how you paid it off, but those overnight loans have alot of fine print and ways to keep their hands in your pockets). They have the rights because the loan giver is sick of waiting to have it paid back, so they give the loan rights to debt collectors. Meaning, if you owe money, you need to pay it back. They may call people that are no longer connected to the person that borrowed money, but they are given #'s that the person gave at the time of signing for hte loan as references, so if you're getting calls its probably because the person used your name and you didn't know it.
They're just trying to get jerks to pay back money they borrowed. If you owe money, and you're getting calls from them, then you shouldn't be complaining. You're the bad guy, not them. They're just working people.- Call type: Debt collector
- bunnythese people don't get it! I don't borrow money, have not borrowed money. these people really spooked my elder mother at her house! who do these people think they are? If I had my way then it would not be pretty.

- Shame on you Linda Dawson replies to Linda Dawson| 6 repliesLinda Dawson is OBVIOUSLY one of the idiots associated with this scam. IT IS A SCAM !
Anyone posting crap claiming that it's not a scam is working for this chumps.
I urge everyone to please know and understand your rights when dealing with folks like LINDA DAWSON.
notice how she got all sensitive and bully like?? A true scam indeed. No soup for you Linda !! - And another thing LISA replies to Linda DawsonIf you truly believe that this company is not a scam, why would you take the time to google the phone number to check what others are saying about it?? Answer that question ma'am...or mister..or whatever the heck you are. I'm not the smartest gal in the world, but it makes more sense to me that someone who is curious about the authenticity of a company would do a google or bing search, etc rather than someone who is confident that the business is not a scam.
I am in the Research field and I often find that someone who is hiding something will post under false names with claims that the company is the greatest, or they are not scamming, yadda yadda yadda. Don't pee on our legs and tell us it's raining.
This not only goes out to my dear friend Lisa, but others like her who post false comments. My goal is to inform other potential victims to this scam. Please do a search on this toll free number to read all information that is posted for this company. As I have stated on other posts, if this company is legit, how come they have so much incorrect information? How come I'm still waiting around to get sued, arrested, etc? How come they become irate when you question them, or ask for proof? How come I was told, and I quote "Well ma'am..I think the judge will believe us over you..we don't have to provide proof that you owe the debt" Say what?? Now you tell me that is legit? seriously,.really??? - Jim In Texas replies to mmmm23Gather as much info as you can on these people & contact an FDCPA attorney in your area.Most of them take a case contingent fee meaning they don't charge you a fee, they only collect if they recover. If you live in Texas, the collector must also have a Surety Bond to collect. As far as reporting them to Law enforcement, contact your state's attorney General & also the attorney General of the state they are calling from if you can determine that. It's more effective to hit them in the pocketbook than going after them through law enforcement.
As painful as it can be I do suggest you call them for several reasons including information gathering as well as asserting your right to a validation of debt letter which they have to provide within 5 days. - mmm replies to Shame on you Linda Dawson| 5 repliesyou people complaining about the workers prob don't even HAVE A JOB hahahahaha!!!!! you guys have stolen money from clients and DON'T pay them back--- you deserve to be treated like crap. if someone stole an item from your home or the store--- then how would you feel LOL... grow up!
