I too got an SMS from 8888888888 via TD-668888 saying ''Ha konacha phone number ahe?'', which is in Marathi meaning Whose no is this? Strange thing is I got the same SMS in Hindi on my Uttar Pradesh no. Many of my friends have also got the same SMS, though they have a different Telecom service provider.
What should be our course of action?

I have been getting this call for a week now every since I applied for a payday loan. I have also gotten about a 100 calls on my phone from different companies that I didnt even try to borrow from. This is crazy and should be regulated. But if you try to get a loan and dont click yes when it tells you to it will not submit your application.

I received a call yesterday from (888) 888 88 around 6PM and 14 calls this morning between 5AM to 6AM. Day before yesterday I received 18 calls form the same number. Some one left a message in arabic language asking me to pick up the phone. I reported it to the telephone company, they could not block it and said some one is using some application and there is nothing they can do to stop it.

This number is super freaky. Okay so i got a call and i picked up and it lasted for only 3 seconds.
All i could hear was a breathy 'hhhh'
So i was really freaked out, and being the curious me i called back. and all i could get was that the number doesn't exist?! How is it possible for someone to call me using a number that doesn't exist? Its also definitely not a Singapore number however weirdly enough, i did not get charged for overseas call.
Anyway, guys watch this horror movie: Ju-on. There was a ghost by the number 4444 4444 4444. :O
    Can anyone scream, freaky?!

Many of these scammers "spoof" their calls which basically means they can send false information to your caller id such as a bogus number and/or a bogus name so they can hide their true identity, making it harder for authorities to trace.
Called here and I didn't bother answering it. Caller id read Econ Wealth.

I just got a call from 888-888-8888.  They claimed to be from a company called "24 hour support" calling regarding my my support call that I placed (they had my correct name) for my Windows 7 system.  Since I we only use Macs in my house I knew this is bogus. I do fake the user agent for my browser sometimes so some dubious site my have thought I was running Windows, or they might just have been going to the most common OS.  It was obviously a boiler room operation, they wouldn't get me a full name, web site or phone number for the company -- they said "...this is confidential information".  Kept them on the phone for as long as I could -- time is money for these idiots.  This was a phishing scheme. If you have AT&T Uverse you can initiate a Call Trace and report it to the police or FTC automatically (if you file a report):

Immediately after you receive an annoying or harassing call, pick up the phone and dial *57. Follow the recorded instructions to invoke this Call Trace feature - automatically tracing the last call you received.
You are responsible for filing a complaint with the law enforcement agency. After three successful traces, we will release the call origination number to the law enforcement agency for investigative purposes. You will not receive any information regarding the origination of the call.

Received a call from this number, today. My caller ID identified the call from an "Econ Wealth"?  It was from those wonderful people, who call you unexpectedly, telling you that your computer is infected, and they 've called to help you out. This isn't the first time they've called me, but this time, I was prepared for them. After the caller finish his pitch, which sounded like he was read from a script, I asked him simple question; "What is the name of the malware infecting my computer"?  His reply was, "What".  My secord question to him was, "What-is-the-malware-in-my-computer-causing-it-to-slow-down"?  His reply to that was to hung-up.
