A man (nicely dressed, business casual, appropriate for the super-hot weather), came to the door carrying a clipboard and huge binder filled with papers.  No badge or ID, no marking on the car.  I don't answer the door to strangers, but I watched from the upstairs window.  He got in his car and seemed to press some buttons.  Moments later, the phone rang.  It only showed the phone number, 971-208-9984, in the caller ID.  I didn't answer the phone because I did not know who it was and it seemed suspicious that the man outside just left the door when the phone rang.  I looked it up, and the consensus on this site is that it is a life insurance group.  My mother lives here, too, so perhaps it is just someone trying to sell insurance as she is up for Medicare this year.

Meant to mention that I'm in the Raleigh, NC area.  So apparently whoever has this number really gets around!

I just got a call from 971 208 9984 i answered but they said nothing..
What is the point if they're selling (?) something if they stay silent?
Should be able to investigate & take legal action on this type of annoying callers/

Just got a call on my cell phone, my cell number is on the Do Not Call list
I am so sick and tired of all these scammers and thieves calling my cell phone.

I just got one, and based on what I read here I would deduce that we will all be receiving either telemarketing, or more likely, political polling calls.  I hear there are programs that basically dial numbers and then they just mark whether there was an answering machine, if someone answered, or if it is not a valid number.  I am guessing this is what happened.

I keep getting calls from this number as well.. I do not know them. They do not leave a message I placed in my BLOCKED calls list.. I am on the National DO NOT CALL Registry..

Yep got a call from this number about 5 min ago. Didn't answer and no vm  I screen every number that's not in my directory. Ive been getting quite a few political calls too.

You are then transferred immediately to a boiler room call center in Riviera Beach Florida

Salesman starts the big ball rolling...your name..your address your credit card numbers

Received a call form this number and someone hung up when I answered

got a robocall from this number that initially said it was a "political survey that would take 30 seconds", then said as thanks for taking survey, a "sponsor" was going to provide a free cruise and all you had to do was pay certain fees and taxes.

I have discovered that when I get calls like this if I answer and hold the pound button for about 20 seconds they hear a screeching noise like a fax machine. This usually discourages them from calling back.
