Received call from this number in Canada. Did not answer - no message left, no user ID. Will report to Canada DNC, but they probably do nothing about it.

AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine attorney general’s office on Friday issued a scam alert about a sham political robocall that disguises a vacation time-share pitch as an election poll.

A group called Political Opinions of America uses an automated voice to ask a three-question poll, according to a press release issued by Maine Attorney General William J. Schneider. After answering, Caribbean Cruise Lines offers the consumer a free cruise for taking the survey.

The free offer, however, requires a port fee or tax to be paid by credit card over the phone, the press release said. The cruise claims to be designed to expose people to sales pitches for vacation time shares.

“Legitimate campaign calls can be expected during election season and the information that pollsters obtain from voters is valuable to the campaign process,” Schneider said in the release. “A bonafide survey will not try to reward you with a free service or sell you something.”

The Federal Trade Commission’s Do Not Call Registry bans unsolicited prerecorded sales calls to any number on the list, the release noted. For information, visit http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt107.shtm or https://www.donotcall.gov/.

Maine residents who want to report a survey scam may call the attorney general’s Consumer Protection Hotline at 626-8849.


I receive up to 5 of these calls per day and I reside in Canada.  No call back is possible as the number keeps changing and the scammers are likely based offshore.  In the US, you can report the calls to your State Attorney General's office and you can warn others to not give out personal info. over the phone.  All the best from Toronto.

Just got a call from this number on my cell - I too am on the DO NOT CALL List.  This has to be stopped.

I have no idea who this could be or why OR, USA is calling my NOLA cell number

Called me a few minutes ago. Didn't answer, didn't leave a message. Came up on my cell as unavailable.

971-208-9984 also with LFG Group , didn't answer, no message 11 am Saturday morning. We are on the Fed DNC list. I suspect though that this is an incident where one of our insurance companies is giving info to another for $ or else we'd find they are 'affiliated'.

This is Lincoln Financial Group.  They have something to do with insurance and financial planning.

I received a  call from 971-208-9984 at 1:04 am, July 14, 2012. I did not answer and the caller ID tried to call back and it said it was unavailable very strange

This number called at 2:07 p.m.  I did not answer.  Caller ID showed Salem, OR

Another Oregon-Washington Junk call (might even be overseas (China or Russian connection)).  Did not answer. They did not leave message, so their long distance call was not important to them, so it was not important to me.  Don't you answer them, or you will be on their & their friend's DO CALL LIST.

Same thing, called here, no voice mail left.   How rude!  ;)

I get at least 14 calls a week from this number. I have no dealings in Oregon. The number has been passed to the authorities.

I got call from 971-208-9984 at noon time, I did not answer it and there is no message.

Just got a call too! I'm sure its just telemarketers
