There is a facility in VOIP services to specify your caller id. I suspect that's what's happening in this case. A real(?) overseas call would have more digits.

Have received 2 calls from this number in the past 2 days. I answer and all I get is dead air. Seems strange that the other messages on here are from 3 years ago and no one knew who was calling. Now they are calling again after that long? Must be a scam or something.

Have received 2 calls in the last 2 days. Was told that it was Global Computers calling. When they started to tell me that my computer was downloading spyware, I replied " I suppose you want me to go to my computer and follow your instructions, which will bugger up my computer, not interested " and I hung up. I don't know why the Do Not Call register lets them through

Just had a missed call from this number - don't answer the home phone these days as there are so many charity calls - and tried to ring it back. The automated voice basically said that the number did not have the correct country code.

Just read the post above from Mrs Muzz, and this makes me glad I didn't answer the phone. Have had Global Computers call me before and they hung up on me because I was asking too many awkward questions. I think the calls are coming from an Asian country as the gentleman(?) who spoke to me sounded like he came from the sub-continent somewhere.

Don't think they heed anything to do with the Do Not Call register though. Think that this only applies to ethical companies! And don't get me on to charities who use commercial third parties to canvass funding - they should be banned under the DNC.

I have just received my 100th call in three years. I really believe the service providers should get together and stop/block all calls having this prefix.
Optus have an option on their lines to selectively reject calls from up to 30 numbers.

Received a call from 0011976000 at 9.15 pm. The caller hung up when I answered. Very surprised when I googled the number and found so many others have had calls over such a long time. Weird !!

I have been getting calls from this number for the last couple of years.  Today's call appeared to come from overseas - taking into account the accent of the man on the other end of the line - and was apparently from a computer company telling me my business website was not functioning correctly and that they could help me fix that.  Obviously told them not interested and hung up.  Other times calls from this number have been relating to them wanting to discuss my business phone lines, etc.  I am located in Sydney Australia and use the Optus VOIP system.

hi all I just made the mistake of answering it, only because I'd received a number of missed calls from this number he said he was from Microsoft and he had received over the last three days error messages from my computer.  I hung up on him at this stage.  He had  an indian accent and it did sound from overseas, beeps etc.  w.i.e.r.d.  maybe he was about  to ask for my contact details.  I'm in Australia as well.

Hi Willi I have received nuisance scam callers in the past and made a complaint to Transact (Optus) they sent a desist letter to the company and the calls stopped. If you have been putting up with this for years you should ring your phone company they will stop or block the calls.

Got a call from this number they asked who was the main user of computers in the home, and which computer accessed the internet regularly, I said 5 (its legit) and they said they needed a microsoft one, at that point I said that we have caller ID and I will be reporting the number, which I am now.
