- DebbieJust had a call from 00401, it was talk talk trying to tell me that my computer was infected and that he wanted me to turn it on so he could assist me. He wouldn't listen to the fact that we've got security on the PC and it runs scans on a regular basis, his answer was they've got around that. I told him then if I have a problem with my PC I have a very good friend that will sort it out for me. He said he'd call back later to which he was told no don't bother.
- Caller: Talk Talk
- SueI too got this call. Asian person claiming to be from TalkTalk. Said there were problems with the internet service they provide. How slow it was etc. He wanted me to turn my computer on and once connected to my browser he could sort the problems out by guiding me through actions to take on my computer. I told him I would do no such thing! I then ended the call. He did not ring back. TalkTalk customers beware! I do not think this caller was representing TalkTalk at all. This is very likely a scam! Their aim is to get remote control of your computer.

He asked me to turn on my computer. I said that i would call talk talk myself, as i didn't know who he was. he tried to convince me that he was genuine by reeling off my partners name as the account holder and our address. I said that if he was genuine then it won't hurt for me t call talk talk myself and he hung up!! suspect he was trying to sacm me!
- sarahI got a call from 00401 on 26/6/15 at 16.35.
I couldn't hear or understand properly but said 'you are not to call this number'.
He said 'why'
I said because this is a cold call and you are not to ring this number.
I said who is this anyway
He seemed to say some sort of police
Then I am sure he said 4 times "Go to Hell', but it wasn't clear as he had a foreign accent - Merry WidowThis number calls several times a day everyday I never pick up you would think they would give up no luck - who are they ?
- Caller: No idea
- Same HereHaven't had this one before (00401) but it's just another version of the same thing. A call to landline, which I didn't pick up. If TalkTalk payed their staff a decent wage they wouldn't be driven to abusing access to our data - but then again, we want to pay the minimum for the service, coz we can't afford it either.. Catch 22! Trouble is, I do get genuine calls on my landline sometimes, so have to keep checking via 1471.
- Caller: Talk Talk employee?
- Call type: Prank
- fed up with foreign fraudstersworryingly had my full name which i did not confirm instead i asked who was calling big silence then said his name was mark then he hung up- foreign accent
- Caller: did not say
- George FlashmanReceived a call earlier today, which was from 00401 and there was a distinct sound of background chatter where an Indian voice could be heard mumbling something incoherent (perhaps to a colleague) just before they hung up. This is the umpteenth call we've received calls from these people, who claim to be from some "company" calling themselves 'Consumer Lifestyle Survey', or something to that effect. They are, in all likelihood, a scam; a recon of sorts if you like, designed to collect some sort of crucial titbit of information needed, and likely missing from the profile they have concerning the person they're calling. I believe this 'CLS' is in some fashion connected to another series of callers: a bunch of fraudsters claiming to be calling from your Internet service provider...
Beware: these people have your name and perhaps even your address; they have your Internet service provider, your wife's name and probably other pieces gleaned from whatever stolen/shared source they have on you. They're pretty persistent at cold-calling, however, focusing on people from their lists in order to hijack your computer, to steal passwords and other valuable personal data. They will use what information they have to convince you they're legitimate; often insisting "You have a problem with your computer - a virus inexplicably downloading which [they claim] we can fix," whilst trying to assure you they're from your service provider and just want to help you!
Naturally, they're not from your Internet service provider. Your provider wouldn't call you like this. No really, they wouldn't.
In every instance, these people have a distinctly Indian accent, though they will claim their name is Steve, John or whatever they might feel necessary to convince you they're on the level. For those unfortunate enough to be at the other end of the line, they are a nuisance; they're unwelcome and they're pretty insistent and persistent. Most of all however, they're dangerous!- Caller: Consumer Lifestyle Survey

- G MORRISI received a call from gentleman claiming to be from TalkTalk (Ken Williamson R15768607) stating that my internet router was being hacked. Did not believe him and hung up. Back checked the number he dialed from. It was 00401. This must be a scam, as this is not an official TalkTalk number. Be careful out there!
- Caller: TALK TALK
- Tony PSeveral calls from 00401. Decided to answer one and was told they from TalkTalk my internet provider. They said they had a fault and wanted me to use my computer. I then hung up. It was very difficult to understand the person talking with a strong accent.
- Caller: They said 'TalkTalk'
- JaniceJust received a call from and Indian sounding guy whose English was very poor. He said he was from Talk Talk and wanted me to access my computer for him as 'we had a virus on our internet connection' that he said he could fix. Very difficult to understand him. I told him I wasn't comfortable with this as I didn't know who he was and he said he was Talk Talk and knew my account number. He was insistent that I needed to let him access my computer to fix the problem and when I told him I would call him back to verify he gave me 01576860705 and that his name was Alex Wilman (No Way). He wanted to know exactly what time I would call - said later in afternoon. Checked the number straight away, strange dialling tone and it just rang out. The caller ID came from 00401. Definetly a scam.
- George FlashmanGlad you weren't fooled by this guy, Janice.
I contacted Talk Talk, immediately after my conversation with this fraudster, who confirmed that the caller wasn't from them. Talk Talk, or likely any Internet service provider for that matter, wouldn't contact you in this manner. Another trick these fraudsters like to try to pull is to lead you to think that they've hung up on you. When you call Talk Talk, immediately after your conversation with the 'cold caller', they're sometimes still on the line, skulking and waiting, pretending to be the company you're calling!
It was noted in free paper Metro just last Friday that these cold-callers amount to 180,000 calls - that's 180,000 calls that this particular survey was aware of, not the ACTUAL number made - which is likely a great deal higher (!) I have had at least two calls from these ("There's a virus on your computer") b******s, and it horrifies me to think that people might be fooled by their persistent and verbose tactics of deception and manipulation.- Caller: Consumer Lifestyle Survey
