Report a phone call from 008450304436 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- Lunah| 2 repliesCouldn't catch the name but was some questionairre about home improvements. Offering a chance of winning M&S vouchers in return.
Was all automated so kicked in when the answer phone began. After not understanding the answer phones response twice it cut off.- Caller: Unknown
- RachelDidn't catch the company name either, but it was an automated questionnaire. We're registered with TPS & still received this call.
- Caller: Unknown
- Call type: Survey
- George replies to LunahYes, I had this one as well just a few minutes ago, but they had rung off before I got to it. I do like to answer these and waste their time....as they have already wasted my time, by getting me to answer it. I am ex directory, and included on the opt out lists....but we still get them.
- NooMe too, and at dinner time on a Sunday too. When the answerphone kicked in we couldn't get the phone to cut off. We're with the TPS too. I didn't catch the company name but if I had I would have reported them. Argh!
- Mrs Pat CliffordI received the call on 12/04/2011 but was unable to answer the call. It is a number I do not recognise the number can anyone advise.
- Caller: Not known
- Graham| 3 repliesIf the Caller Identity is right (00 84) then this is a Vietnamese number. If the gullible are conned into calling back (after all it looks like an 0845 number) it'll cost them!
And yes, my call was automated too. - HelenI also just received a call from this number but didn't answer as it looked like an overseas number and I don't know anyone who would be calling at this time of day from abroad! The automated message kicked in before my voiemail had even began recording. I'm ex directory too, so I'm not sure how/why they got our number! We rent our flat so certainly aren't in a position to be making any home improvements ourselves!
- Call type: Survey
- RosieWe too are ex-directory and received their call at lunchtime today saying something about doing a survey on the way people use their homes in our area, which sounded odd. It sounded automated. My husband just said "we are too busy to answer any questionnaires" and hung up.
- Caller: 008450304436
- SuWe're also ex-directory and TPS. What worried me was that the automated message said 'to opt out of future calls press 9'. This was the first option provided on the automated message. I didn't press 9 as I've heard of scams where pressing a key dials a premium rate number. If that is what they are doing then that is really bad.
- Graham WestonI also recieved a part message on my answer machine yesterday evening offering M and S vouchers and an optiion to press 9, I just deleted the message as I did not trust the call. Having completed a 1471 check and obtained this 0084 number I was even more suspicious about the merits of the call.
- Caller: Unknown
- Billie| 1 replyI didn't even get to speak to anyone, just a recorded message, with the opt out press 9 option. I too have heard of the scams after pressing numbers, so didn't, just hung up. Unfortunately as they are phoning from abroad (0084), it doesn't matter if you are ex-directory or registered with TPS.
Rather clever on their part though as the number at a glance does look 0845.- Caller: 008450304436
- Al replies to BillieI got a call from them a few minutes ago, and pressed the 9 for "don't bother me again". I then did 1471 to get the number...but it was still connected and talking (obviously automated)...tried it again a minute or 2 later abd got the number. Hopefully there'll be no charges.....?
- mejust had this call-did not answer as no. on my display looked suspicious. I did NOT press 9 and advise all to never press such invited nos.
- JohnWhy are these people calling? I've signed up for TPS, as well and surely they can be fined.
- Call type: Survey
- TonyI had this call a few days ago. John says "...surely they can be fined" -- in theory yes except that:
1) The TPS is run by the Direct Marketing Association... so who are they REALLY working for when you make a complaint?
2) The ICO (which has enforcement powers) will only accept complaints if you can identify the caller but those that ignore the TPS list either withold their number, put a fake number into their PBX or use an overseas call centre that cannot be traced. Start asking direct questions and they end the call.
3) The ICO could work with BT etc. to trace calls within the UK -- all calls are tracked and recorded for billing purposes even if they do not end up on the customers final bill -- but those with the power do not have the will.
4) By disguising sales calls as 'surveys' they can claim to be exempt from the regulations anyway. Of course the reason for the 'survey' is just so thay know who to call back with a sales call.
If you have the time and the patience answer the call and make them work. Make your answers as vague as possible and ask lots of questions: last week I had a caller go off to ask a manager if they made conservatories on stilts (I live on the 1st floor!); I had to end the call because I couldn't stop laughing!
Another time I was fed up with one particular company so I asked them to send a representative. When he arrived I asked him to prove he was who he said he was and from that he showed me paperwork that included the business name and address and with that written down I told him that I now had all of the information that I needed and he could go -- he didn't even get a foot on the doorstep.- Caller: Unknown

I pressed 9 and the recording said I'd "opted out". Yeah right. will update if any further calls. - Aitch| 1 replyThese [***] called me today and there's nothing you can do about it regrettably. The TPS is a diluted waste of space and as this is a survey and not a sales call they are exempt. Moreover the TPS can do nothing if the call originates from abroad. The TPS never do anything anyway they just talk the talk and that's all they do. The 00845 is meant to confuse and of course I would be very wary of pressing any buttons in case it routes to a premium number and you are charged a high amount. I would like these criminals to be identified and fined the threatened £5,000 that the TPS has in it's armoury however as usual telephone providers and the TPS hide up their own backsides and these criminals get away with conning innocent people. It's about time the Government did something about it as if I steal from someone I'd go to prison but this is an exemption or allowable theft which lines the pockets of these [***].
