- johnThese lot have phoned me 6 times today and I'm tired of it. Tried ringing themback only to be told that the number was not recognised?
- johnAnother 5 calls fromthese muppets today - they don't give up do they?
- BRIAN ED.I was called by this number and was repeatedly told by the other party that lots of computers in my area had been rendered useless, he said he wasn't a sales man but wanted to help me protect myself. Even thoughI told him I worked for an IT company and had access to all the current anti spam, spyware programmes etc. the idiot still insisted he could help me. All I had to do was spin up my computer and let him have remote access to it- HA! HA! HA! So I played along with him and told him I was running Linux Abuntu what was it he could help me with? (obviously I hadn't turned on my P.C.) He went quiet and then I told him to B********R off.
I checked out the num,ber and found that it is a dummy front number based in Mumbai which is available to anybody who wants to use it for their own reasons. It does not have a trace back to the originator of the call and trying a 1471 only gets a message to say that the number does not accept incoming calls.
Obviously a front for various scams BEWARE folks.- Caller: Indian sounding voice and the name was garbled
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- Roger Greenhalgh| 1 replyThe phone has sounded several times today 12th April 2012. Both my wife and I have answered it. Sometimes there has been no person at the other end. At 13.26 I answered the phone and spoke to someone with a far-east accent called Jennifer who knew our name and started to ask me about our computer security. I continued to answer her questions to gain her confidence. When I asked her her phone number, she stopped speaking. Then she asked if I was still on the line. I asked to speak to her supervisor and to be given her number. Guess what? She rang off.
When I checked the number, I found that it was 0123456789 number which I have found out on the internet means it is a Skype number. One previous post in this section suggests that I will be charged for the call. Is this true?- Caller: ?
- Call type: Telemarketer
- DougsterI had two calls from this number within 30 minutes of each other.
At the first call they started telling me that they were calling from the technical department of some company and that there was a problem with my computer.
I hung up fairly quickly.
The second call was answered by my wife and they told her to switch on the computer, she hung up fairly quickly.
I presume that they are either trying to sell some software or they are trying to get remote control of the computer, either way it sounded sinister - Dougster replies to Roger GreenhalghMy call was from a "Jennifer" and she knew my name.
- jeff4 calls alreadttoday from this number-when I pick up the phone no one there
- jrs07Just had a very bizarre call from this number: thick accent ?Philippino, Thai? We think the name Quantum PC services, was given. Some big alarm indicated about local problems on computers which can destroy data completely. I kept her talking to ascertain exactly what kind of scam they are trying. Asked if this was a cold call and how did she know I had a computer? Asked what they were selling and how did she get my number. Assured her I have anti-virus, spy-ware etc. etc. After some while she hung up. Any clues as to who they are? It cannot surely be true that if you answer you pay for the call?
- jrs07Well, several more calls last evening and three this morning: all of these are silent on pick-up, or just stop ringing. I am very keen to block this number but have so far not found anyone at TalkTalk willing to do so!
- SueHad several calls from this number. All have gone to answer machine and only message is "goodbye".
- Caller: unknown
- sueJust had another call. Said they were Winows Update Limited. Told them they had got through to Trading Standards Department. Hope that'll stop them.

- JThey rang me today about 3 times. First time I let 'Peter' chat on about problems with my computer then after a minute I put the phone down. He rang back again 5 minutes later then my Dad gave him an earful and told him not to bother us. Third time he rang I gave in and went on my PC with him on the phone to show me the errors and warnings that have come up in the past. He said they are too severe for my anti-virus to cope with and had been causing my PC to run slowly.
He then told me to download this software called 'AMMYY' which I did but because my PC did run slowly I didn't manage to do what he wanted when he wanted. He was quite impatient and kept trying to hurry things along. He then put his manager on to set up the remote session.
I tried stopping Peter at that point to ask would I be charged and he said there would be a 'nominal fee' and quickly moved on despite me trying to ask further questions.
He went about downloading some software during the session and then I told him I wouldn't pay anything over the phone or on the internet especially as I didn't ask for this service. He then told me I'd have to pay more than the £31 nominal fee if I were to take it to a PC repair shop to sort the problem out. Then I turned my PCS off at the mains and he hung up.
I'll be on the lookout in case they ring back. - PatGot a call from this number today. Foreign man said there was a problem with my computer. I told him I did not have one.
- CatNumerous phone calls from this number. Very annoying.
- snoz64Silent call. Shan't answer it again.
- DeltaI recieved a call from this number 5 minutes ago, it was a foreign man. He asked for the previous occupants (from 8 years ago), when I told him they weren't available, and asked who he was, he said he was calling from IT about 'the computer'. When challenged, and told that I was registered with the TPS (He didn't know what this was), and after shouting at me, he hung up! Definately a scam of some sort, I can only imagine why they were trying to find out if I had a computer!!!!
- snoz64This time husband took the call as we are so damn sick of this. The woman said she was from Microsoft and said that an issue had been identified with a virus causing a problem with the hard drive. Husband went along with it - said he'd have to boot the computer - put the phone down for 5 minutes then picked it up and said it was booted. She told him to click on the start menu...he played dumb and she said something along the lines of the "Windows start button on the right hand side" and he then said, "Well I've got Linux not Windows" at which point she disappeared..haha!
Calling this a prank call but needs a button that says "scammer"- Call type: Prank
