- FUNNY FARMLooks like there are loads of different bogus so called companies out there using 0123456789 and sounds like they are using skype. I've had a few in the last month or so.
I suppose the key is to not give any important information out.
My advice is to have a bit of fun with them!
If you have a few spare minutes the best one to do is to play a bit thick, but not too much for them to see you're having them on!!! It can drive them around the bend so they're the ones to hang up first!!! (Which is a win to us!)
They ask- Am I talking to Mr Smith?
You say- You first identify who you are and where you are calling from please.
After that, they will want you to confirm who you are. Don't give them the pleasure. Just ask them how they acquired this phone number.
(They're know it's you anyway, because it’s easy to get name and number lists. There will always be a few unfortunate people who have moved and the new occupier is assumed to be the old home owner)
If they persist in getting your name, just go woooo, woooo, wooooo, wooooo, wooooo until they shut up!
You say- tell me again, who are you and where did you say you were calling from? (This will create a lack of patience on their part) You can add- What is the nature of your call please? (the key is to just allow them to keep talking)
They will want to rattle off some garbage about how you can turn belly button fluff into gold or some other stupid story.
You then say- I'm not sure I really understand what you are trying to tell me. Could you say it all again, and please speak a little clearer, slower and louder because I’m hard of hearing. (Works especially well on people with non English accents- like 99% of them!)
You may have a bit of fun hearing them trying to change their voice at this stage. Put them on loud speaker for all the family to have a laugh too, and get them to repeat again and again any words that don't sound too clear, you can even help them in their pronunciation and break it down into syllables and get them to repeat after you!
After all their hard work and time in trying to con you, you can say- Sorry, it's a bit too confusing for me to understand, I'll put someone else on, please hold on a minute (then make them wait longer!)
You can then put on another member of your family and they can do just the same, which will drive the caller mad!!!
(Salespeople are one tracked- programmed to sell, so take them off on a tangent if possible. e.g. your accent reminds me of a friend I used to go to school with, he was originally from ............. , where are you from?)
Just think about this- The more time we can get from them, the less time they have for trying to con others.
But remember these main points
1/ Relax
2/ Don't give any important information away.
3/ Waste their time and have fun doing it, that way your time is not wasted!
Let me know how you get on folks! - mclmum| 1 replyI hav calls from this no. several time a day and have been for about 2 wks now, when i answer they hang up so now i dont bother answering when i see the no.....pain in the [***] tho....wish someone would find out who yhey are andpuy a stop to it.
- KittenAt l twice a week for about 5 weeks we have had this automated telephone message saying "This is an urgent message please telephone Fredrickson Internation on (they give the number but as I had no intention of ringing it I did not take it down) and quote reference number (which I also did not record) thank you" When I did a 1471 this 0123456789 message was given. I have looked up Fredrickson International and apparently they are a deb t collecting firm. Fortunately we have no debts and as we are old pensioners this is getting quite worrying although we do realise it must be a scam, which is why we are not responding.
- Caller: Fredrickson International
- Call type: Debt collector
