This number called today at 13:39, saying that they were after the person who had an accident and it wasn't their fault. When questioned he said they were based in Hull and had got my number from a shopping centre(didn't say which one) where the accident had happened upto 3 years ago! I I told him I was ex-directory and was on the TPS, he knew this:? I informed him nobody has had an accident and he had the wrong person and hung up.

Had a call from a man with an Indian or Pakistani accent at about 11am today. My number is ex-directory, but unfortunately that makes little difference these days. He claimed that he got my number from a hospital survey list (or something like that) because I had supposedly had an accident within the last 3 years. Quite a bizarre cliam, given that I haven't had any such accident, and the last time I gave my number to a hospital I was living at a different address and had a different telephone number. Also, I seriously doubt that hospitals would give out any ex-patient information in a survey where individuals could be idenbtified, since doing so would likely be a violation of the Data Protection Act, not to mention a breach of confidentiality. The call was obviously a scam, so I told him not to ring again and hung up. (*)

The 1471 service returned 01234567890 as the number.

Well I just had a call from the number saying I had security issues with my PC and wanted to me to change some setting, total scam, I am in IT people be aware that they should ignore calls from this number. They wanted the previous elderly owner of the house and didn't realise that he doesn't live here any more.

Just had a call from 01234567890 asking for me by name and saying it is about the computer, I asked what his name was and he said 'Ryan' I asked who he was calling from and he said what sounded like 'Norton' I asked him to repeat who he was calling from three times and then realised he was saying something like 'Norti', he then told me my house number and post code and asked me to confirm I ignored his request and asked what he wanted he said (Wait for it!!) 'your computer keeps sending us messages saying it has a problem' I asked for a telephone number so I could call him back as I did not deal with anyone I did not know at which point he hung up. Best avoided I think

Anyone else had this happen to them.

Wife answered the phone and someone said
"You have a lot of virus on your computer"
Wife dosn't use the computer and tell the guy this and hangs up the phone, but the guy dosn't hang up at his end so now the phone is unusable untill he hangs up his phone.

I have just had a call from this number - An Asian man claiming to be from Accident Advice Bureau or something along those lines. He asked me if somebody from my household had been to the GP or hospital in the last 3 years to which I answered "Well, yes of course...I don't know many people who haven't. He told me they recently conducted a survey in my area and somebody from my household had told them they had been in an accident in the last 3 years. I told him no, that is not the case. He continued to insist a member of my family had. In the end I lost patience and told him that he is insulting my intelligence trying to tell me that somebody had an accident in my own family, I of course would know more than he does. He asked me one more time, I said no, he then told me that we are very lucky. I asked him to remove my details but apparently he can't do this.

Note: The number displayed on my phone when he called was my local area code followed by a number I didn't recognise yet when I called 1471, it came up with 01234567890.

Difficult to establish what these people are actually trying to achieve. How naive do they think we really are?
