I get 2 calls a day everyday from this number, the first time i answered they asked  to speak to someone whos name i cant remember but it is not mine or my partners name and also was not the name of the last few previous owners of our home for going back over the last 20 odd years, they then confirmed the address with me and gave me an address I had never heard of, I told them they had the completely wrong name and address so obviously have the wrong contact number on their system for who they are trying to get hold of and yet they continue to pester me every single day!!!!!!

They are ringing because you owe them money, pay your debts. if you dont owe them anything then you have nothing to worry about.

Given the number of complaints against this company and its tactics, I'm amazed they are still allowed to trade. In some of the countries I work in, one or other of the parties would simply meet an untimely end; thankfully not (usually) the case here!

Basic principle is that if you incur a debt, it needs to be settled, even in these testing times, but there are numerous legitimate organisations that will sensibly help you to plan your way back to solvency!  CAPQUEST is not one of them however.

There are many of us who owe nothing to anybody; some of us keep meticulous records but most don't and they work on the assumption that they might just convince you that it IS you that owes a particular debt, even when it isn't.  Be aware that, whilst a debt in a name similar to yours might exist (i.e. purchased as one of a package of debts from a Credit Card Company, for example) all too often this isn't you.  They simply use a wide range of databases such as those held by the DVLA, Experian, etc. to try to match the data with someone whose name or postcode broadly matches the debt ...then try to bully them into payment.

The difficulty comes if, for example as a result of identity theft (or someone starts to use a credit card sent to your previous address for example), where a debt has been accrued in your name.  You discover it, notify your service provider(s), etc. assuming that, once resolved within the terms of your card provider's Terms & Conditions that no further liability exists on your part.  This is true, but a debt still technically exists that, as in my case, is sold on to a company such as CAPQUEST (remember, whilst your debt shouldn't be on the list, the more the technical value of the package of debts, the greater the return for the card provider!).  Once purchased ...the likes of CAPQUEST simply head for the easiest initial target ...YOU.

The various letters/tactics that can be used to respond to CAPQUEST are contained earlier in this string.

Whatever happens, it is important that you keep good records.

So, first, open a physical FILE, and keep copies of all paperwork (copies of your/their letters, receipts for postage, etc.) and draw up a simple table at the front of the file to record all communications in and out (DATE / TIME [leave enough space to record start & finish times of telephone calls/conversations] /EVENT [letter in ...silent call ...ansaphone message ...etc.] / REMARKS [record name of caller, letter reference, 'caller abusive and put phone down when asked to give their name', etc.]

If you communicate with them, always do so in WRITING, use Royal Mail's 'Recorded Signed For' service (2nd class letter costs £1.13).

Make sure you include the following in your letter:

    - Their Address (as per any of their letters/communications/etc.) ...there is no requirement to put your own
    - the Date
    - their Reference (include one of your own as well if you wish)
    - request that they provide full written proof of the 'ALLEGED DEBT'
    - give them a specified period to respond with said proof (14 days from receipt of [your] letter is reasonable ...remember that you can view proof of delivery on line [remember to print off and keep a copy]).
    - state that failure to respond with the requested information, within the specified period ....99 times out of a 100, they can't and therefore don't.... will result in the matter being considered closed and that no further communication will be entered into.
    - further, state that 'subject to the provisions of the above, ANY further communication from CAPQUEST in connection with this matter will be considered a breach of the 'Protection from Harrassment Act 1997 (PFHA)'
    - state that a copy of your letter has been passed to 'Xxxxxxshire [your county] Trading Standards'.

Finally, if you haven't got an ansaphone, get one!  Use the 'Call screening' facility to listen to the caller before deciding to answer; if you do then answer, most ansaphones will record at least some of the conversation.

Don't give out any information you don't have to and, above all, don't get angry ...the person on the end of the phone is a 'lemming' simply going through a process, so don't waste your energy ...I found laughing down the phone really put them off !!   You could even have some fun at their expense, such as open the conversation with 'Please hold on one second ....I will be recording our conversation. I assume that you have no objection?' ...when they do, you can simply say '...in that case I'm afraid I will have to terminate our conversation now. Goodbye.'

    Good luck,

    Mark

Had a call from 01252576422 today they asked for my address, d.o.b and post code. They called on my landline saying they are from Orange. Asked what it was about they wouldn't say, I have a contract with Orange and know that they do not ask those kind of details when calling told the guy on the phone that if he doesn't tell me why he is calling I wouldn't be giving any information. He refused saying that he needs to confirm data protection before he could. I told him that I would not be giving any details on a unsolicated call. What makes it worse that Orange don't have my landline so called Orange to check & to be advised that they have not called and have had no reason to call me and if I get any further calls from the number to try & get more information & pass the details on to them to investigate. I would suggest not giving any personnal details & if they are saying they are calling for a company to call that company yourself to advise as they will probably have no idea that these people are calling using their name.

Ridiculous unhelpful thing to say, they are ringing my 14 year old daughter about 4 times a day and she is getting frightened. So she has nothing to worry about, yes?

They do not care who they ring, it cannot be real people with real debt because how does a 14 yeard old run up a debt?

    why me agen
A warning to the unaware. 6 years ago I received a letter from a company I had never heard of.

I stupidly phoned this company, and as a result suffered years of harassment from debt collectors, chasing someone with the same name as myself.

Among these buffoons was a company called Capquest, and regardless of what I told them, wouldn't take No for an answer.

Eventually they realised that I wasn't the person they wanted and I thought that was that.

That was over two years ago, and now June 2012, they've started again.

This time, I can see plenty money coming my way in compensation, CAPQUEST you've been warned.

    why me agen
In a nutshell, NEVER phone debt collectors. Never get the urge to phone them to find out what it's all about. The people who work for these companies are brainwashed, and how they manage to sleep at night, I'll never know.

To CS, Bobber is more than likely one of the prats who work for the company in question. Ignore the Drivel he's spouting

    X man on a mission
Someone from this company keep phoning my partner asking for someone else at a different address! My partner has told them that she is not the person that are looking for and the calls are now becoming more persistent ! I rang them from my mobile and blocked my number and then told them to stop harrasing my partner as she was not the person they were looking for? The woman on the other end of the phone who I could barely understand said she would remove the number from their system? We will wait and see if this happens again? My partner nor myself are in debt so don't know why she's being harrassed?

I wish they'd find something better to do with their time !!!!!!??
