Melanie from Aims Revue called me yesterday.  She was was advising me about PPI and told me I would get at least £4,800 + vat back minus there fee of 25% and then said I was to give the next person who would call me back my credit card number and for the set up pack I had to give them £299.  When I told her I would have to think about it she got very defensive.  Told her I would have to speak to my husband and she wasn't to happy.  She's supposed to be ringing back Friday.  Any suggestions - apart from the obvious.

A new Consumer Law came into effect on 8th April 2013.  This states that PPI and Accident Claim companies must not sign anyone up over the 'phone.  They have to send out paperwork and get back a signed agreement before proceeding.  They are also not permitted to collect a fee or bank details on the first call.  It looks like this lot are trying to get round the second part of this law by asking you to give your bank details to the SECOND caller. If you have read any of the posts on here you will have seen that the company is based in Spain and are using a UK telephone number.  The decision is yours but I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

Thank you Nan for your help.  They have rang here 5 times already today and when I answer they just hang up.  Received a letter from them today confirming that they will call me on Friday.  I will NOT be taking them up on there offer.  Glad I checked them out before going any further.

My father has had these people on the line several times and he seems to think they are his friends.,  They are asking for £250.00 and say he will get a refund if they cannot get him any money back.

If you have read my post, above, they cannot sign up your father over the 'phone.  They have to send out paperwork and get a signed agreement before they can act.  They also cannot take money from him before they get that agreement.  That is the law sonce 8th April 2013.  I just hope you read this before he pays them anything.  They are also based in Spain with an accommodation telephone number in Blackburn.  They probably think this makes them immune from the law.

Called today by "Deborah" Who got me to part with £299 They won't give it back. I now have no money for ten days and when my pension is paid in two thirds will go to pay this scam. Has anything been done about this?

Why did you part with the money in the first place if you knew you wouldnt have money for another 10 days?

This is a prime example why companies make so much money of the public because the public dont pay attention to what the hell they are doing as usual.

Hmm things appear to be going quiet. Adam and Tom have just resigned as directors of Liverbird Collections their debt collection company, guess they are trying to make it appear they have nothing further to do with the company. Funny though, they have moved the registered office from Trident Park Blackburn to the offices of their accountants - guess I'm just being cynical!

Check to see whether you signed a Contingency Fee Agreement which will stipulate the charges. The £250 is purely a "membership fee" that's part of their scam. Check with HMRC as they are probably trying to charge you VAT and not pay the VAT on the transaction to HMRC as their "services" are run from Gibraltar, when in fact the work is done by AIMS Legal trading as AIMS Reclaim in Blackburn. Keep fighting dont give in to them.

If you paid by credit card I would try contacting the Credit Card company, explain what has happened and they might operate a Charge-back and get your £250 back from them for you. It's worth a punt.

We managed to get back the £250 our mother paid. We explained that she has memory problems and also some hearing loss. They said if we got a letter from her GP confirming that, then they would refund the money. In the end they refunded it without the GP's letter.

My mother told my sister and me that she had definitely not given them her debit card number (but she had). Aims did send the paperwork, as promised, with cancellation details but my sister, who lives with my mother, looked at it briefly and thought it was something they did not want and threw it away.

We only knew about it when the transaction showed up in my mother's bank statement we tracked down the phone number she'd noted down.

We asked for a transcript of the conversation she had with them which they said we could have for £10. Eventually they sent the C.D recording in which you can hear that my mother was not at all on top of things financially - and she explains, at one point, that her daughters deal with things like insurance and energy bills.

Aims have told us that the agent who spoke to our Mum (very kindly and patiently...) had disciplinary action taken against her and was provided with further training. They say she no longer works for them. But was she scapegoated?

And is there anywhere we should send this recording to?

If they took the £250 after 8th July and took it over the 'phone they are breaking the lasw.  The rules changed on that date and Claims Management Companies must send out paperwork and receive back a signed agreement before they can take any money.  I suggest you report them to the address given in the post just above yours.
