    Almost went there
Thank you to everyone who has posted so far... quite useful information.

I too was offered an opportunity to go through the interview process after posting my CV on a number of websites. One site, I posted my CV at near 11pm and got a call the very next morning from a member of their recruitment team.
I found it a bit strange, but who am I to complain. If I didn't need a job, I wouldn't have posted my CVs all over.
The young lady said the same thing, that she had seen my CV online and thought that I would be a good fit.
Bells first started to ring when I Google mapped the company to find another name on the street and building signage. When I questioned this with the young lady, she didn't know what I was talking about... obviously did no research herself before joining their team.
I emailed the young lady back, asking for clarification on each role that was being offered, so I could properly prepare, no response. I guess they get these questions often. I called them to enquire and she said she was in the process of replying.

Obviously I did not go to the interview, saving myself the possible humiliation, as described in the above comments from everyone else.
Just wondering where their HR & Personnel Manager received their online certification from to allow these things to occur?

Thanks again to everyone who posted

I have worked for this company for over a year now and I am earning very well and do not have to work weekends anymore, its closer to home and I enjoy working with everybody here.
I went through the interveiw process and it is a bit different, but who wants to do the same thing as everybody else.
It's been done and in my eyes new ideas are what helps move things forward.
All these comments on here sound like miserable people who either do not to want to work or apparently have to much pride (LOL) and are not confident in themselves.
In this day and age you will not do well at anything if you do not give it a try, there are alot of people here who are doing really well and they will be here for years, my advise is have a go...

If you invest yourself in them, they will invest in you....I'm living proof of that...! Good Luck...!

Very interesting comments. Mr Michael George Holland (born 31st Jan 1950) certainly has a chequered past. 5g posted a turnover of £11.36m tirnover for the year ending 30.09.2011 yet has minus £25,000 in the bank. As Offcom has made the rolling contracts illegal as from end of 2011 I look forward to the demise of this despicable company. Check out one of Mr Holands bust companies Halfpenny Selfdive Ltd. As the company seems to be based on the onerous hidden termination contracts which are now illegal I suggest you treat any employment opportunities with this "a pinch of salt"

The term "Phoenix" companies usually describes a dubious company that has gone bust and then rises from the ashes with all its assets but leaving its debts behind. No comment but a bit ironic that the address of the 20 odd Mr Holand companies are all based at "Phoenix House" not too sure who will have the last laugh though.

PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS ABOUT 5G COMMUNICATIONS - Rhiannon or Chloe will call you from 5G communications !! Rhiannon called me. I was made redundant a week ago so, with a young family, I needed a job fast. She explained that it was all about personality at 5g and that after chatting for 5 mins with me she wanted to ask her manager for an interview with me. 30 mins later she called me back - she made me feel very wanted. She offered me 11am, 10am or 9am the very next day. I took 9am and she said she'd meet me at the front door. At 9am I went to the front door of there training offices :- Park House Business Centre, Desborough Park Road, High Wycombe. HP12 3DJ around the corner from their head office : - 5G Communications, Phoenix House, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.HP12 3BQ. She wasn't there to greet me but 3 other candidates were!!
We all sat down, the girls were sitting at the front and didn't introduce themselves at all to me or any of the 5 or 6 others in the room. You get the picture - there was certainly no personal touch. I filled in an application form and two aptitude tests. I had a first interview, mainly talking about myself and answering questions. I made it through to the second interview with 12 others of was ended up being a production line of 21 people. On the second interview with one of the sales manager Graham. He was very abrupt/rude the whole way through the interview. I was asked to hold his attention for 2 mins whilst talking about a subject of my choice. I had to sing a song out loud, I had to sell ashtrays to him in role play and lastly I was asked to squawk and act like a Chicken !!! Although very humiliating I did it and made it through to their General managers presentation. The general manager was called Danny, a massively overweight chap with a lot of passion and enthusiasm but struck me as being full of it too. His presentation went on for almost 2 hours - I and 2 others got the job !!! WHAT JOB WAS IT THOUGH - a field sales role starting on 15.5k basic which goes up to 17.9k basic, using your own car for the first 3 months and then a company car APPARENTLY all + massive commission so they kept saying - this all starts off with a 3 day intensive 'BOOT CAMP' style training session.

ALTHOUGH I GOT THE JOB THERE IS NO WAY I WILL WORK FOR THIS COMPANY, ESPECIALLY AFTER READING ABOUT THE WAY THEY TIE THERE CUSTOMERS INTO A 3 YEAR NOTICE PERIOD. THEY ARE INCREDIBLY UNETHICAL AND DON'T CARE - STAFF TURN OVER IS IMMENSE AND THEY ARE A PEOPLE FARM !!!

THIS IS FROM A PERSON WHO'S HAD 20 YEARS IN FIELD SALES AND GOT THE JOB  !!!!

First time I have left a comment on one of these sites but hopefully people can find this one useful.

I was called about a week ago from a guy at 5g comm explaining that they could save me money on my telephone provider costs because of some work they conducted at the local exchange. I am always up for finding a cheaper supplier so I allowed the phone call to continue. Almost straight away the guy on the phone really wanted for an engineer to visit the site for a 'Site Survey' which I replied that this was not possible as I had never heard of the company and I would need to do some research before that happened. This fell on deaf ears and he persisted to try and arrange a visit. On the 3rd or 4th time of me not budging he gave up and said would call back in a week.
The rude and forceful nature of the call made me suspicious plus I would never entertain a new company unless I had done some research on them first.
My research through google led me to this site which confirmed my doubts that they are not a good company to deal with.
I will now look forward to my phone call tomorrow letting them know what I have found.
Hopefully the more people that leave comments can help others who encounter companies they are unsure about.
After reading on a different site about 36 month contracts I would urge anyone before entertaining a new company to you, do a google search on them and read about other peoples experiences first.

I had a delightful chat with Chloe this morning, seems she is the best actress in the business as she has well rehearsed lines!

I have seen you online etc..... have we spoke before? etc... asked me to explain what I had been doing previously and appeared to REALLY take an interest in what I had to say.  After about 40 mins of pleasantries she said I have to speak to my boss and see what he thinks about you, what would you like me to tell him?!?  I replied that since I didnt know what this 'fantastic' opportunity was how could I tailor an answer to impress said boss? She then congratulated me on passing the first stage of the interview process?!?!?! WTF!
She said she would speak to him and get back to me, EXACTLY 30 mins later she did!
'I spoke to my boss and what do you think he said?'  Excuse me? How would I know!!!!!!!  'well he said he would love to see you for a face to face interview!'

So I was invited to the interview and since I didnt have a pen and paper to hand I asked if she could email it to me... her response was "WHATS YOUR EMAIL????" I explained that since she had seen my CV on line then the email address was on the line below the contact number she had just called me on (Alarm bells ringingggggggggg)
So I gave my email and she sent me over all the information and maps etc... but when it comes to 'whirlwind' things like this I am not so sure and like to research so I appear to know what I am talking about, and I am glad I did!

Suffice to say that I will not be attending, the thought of singing a song outloud and prancing around the room like a chicken does not appeal to me in the slightest! I understand why they do it but with 15 years of sales experience I have never had to sqwark or sing a song to close a deal!!  I am very wary of jobs with low basics but huge OTE's and would never accept one.

I also ran my own restaurant for a good few years and had random people appear to check my telephone lines etc... but since I am no fool I used to invite them in for a cup of tea whilst I was making the drinks I called my telephone provider and was told they were nothing to do with them! I never saw someone exit a building quicker in my life!!

Be aware of this and others who call you, I had another call shortly after my initial call with Chloe from a company called DeVere who wanted me to work abroad for £1,500 per month basic... do these people really think we were all born yesterday???

Ahh and to add insult to injury, at 6.45pm I get the call to confirm everything, all very cheery and pleasant etc... JUST before she hangs up comes the question "why do I get the feeling you are not coming tomorrow?" to which I reply "Why would you ask me such a question, have I said anything that makes you doubt my word that I wont be there?"

The alarm bells here are going off so much I need paracetemol!! - And Im 100% not going!!! (And reported to the website where they found my details!!)

    KG replies to David Gough
Thank you David for posting this comment.
Your story is exactly what happened to us 3 years ago, the scam with the visiting engineer and "site survey" who lured us to ridiculous termination charges contract (I am surprised they still use this trick) After they find out that you do not want to sign for 3 years contract, they agree with you for shorter period only to obtain your signature. It turns out that this does not matter as on the back of the contract says 36 months contract. Their services are worse and charges are exactly same as BT, so there is no point switching at all. After you think that the time is come for you to switch back to BT you start getting threatening red letters demanding for Termination charges for 36 months just so scare you to stay with them. After you do not agree to stay with them any longer they threaten you with their legal department.
I am gathering information about them as I am preparing for the legal battle and I am glad I came across this blog. I am sure Ofcom are aware of whats going on and hope it will be shortly they will close this company down.
For other customers suffering from 5G there is another blog where you can read and report to:
    http://universal-telecom.pissedconsumer.com/universal-telecom-5g-ridiculous-termination-conditions-20110617243796.html
For future employees I would suggest that if you feel at least a bit of self respect just go and find reputable employer whose business is legal.

Well another big thanks goes out to this forum, and the World Wide Web and free speech.

I too have just had a call from the charming Chloe...
As must others have said, got my CV from an online job site, but quite clearly did not have it in front of her or couldn't be bothered to read it.
Had a call back 30 mins later as promised, though I was unable to take the call.
Can't even be bothered to listen to the voice mail....

    Thanks

Rex replies to The Lovely Chloe..
I worked for these guys for 3 months, even though I came out of it with less money than I started, due to my car needing repairs after having to drive to scotland every other day. I actually really enjoyed it, yes its stress full and the amount of driving was huge. But I genuinely missed it. Now im back on the road selling again but this time for a much better employer with more wage too.

Interview process was nothing compared to the training and pressure to get new business.

These are the nicest most horrible bosses you will ever work for. If you think that doesn't make sense give them a go and find out for yourself =) Overall it was a hell of an experience, but a short one that I will never forget.

    JustSaying
    * Number 1 on their terms and conditions explains about the THIRTY SIX MONTH (in bold capitals) notice period, if you are signing a contract without even glancing at the terms and conditions then what do you expect...?

    * If you agree with the seller a shorter notice period and then sign it without that requirement being WRITTEN ON THE CONTRACT.. again.. what do you expect?!?

    * The unconventional interview process is probably not because they get kicks out of embarrassing people.. it is to show an ability to think under pressure and prove a certain level of confidence that is required for the job, those of you who said 'thank god I found out, there's no way i would act like a chicken', you also saved the company time and money because they don't actually want to hire you!

    * People who are shocked at how similar their recruitment calls were must be naive if they think that any recruitment or telesales type job isn't based on scripts.

Just saying, everyone loves to jump on the hate band-wagon but please try to be realistic.

    On-the-wall replies to ex employer
Started your own business eh...if it was that good there, then why leave? - you should at least try to sound crediable and not spout  this garbage.

Sure.. there are very 'good' hard-working people employed there but, many of them are trapped there for one reason or another.
As discussed by the majority of contributors over the last 30 months, the Danny Williams character(abeted by the owner) seems to get his rocks off by humiliating, bullying and (even physically) abusing people.

It's strange though that, judging from the reduction in blogs this year, the dubious recruitment practices seem to have waned recently. Have they seen the light and changed the way they source/interview candidates or maybe got rid of the Williams fellow and started using more modern and acceptable recruitment practices?

The majority of contributors have been spot-on about the unsavoury and unprofessional nature of this organisation's recruitment practices and treatment of (some) of their (mainly) sales employees.

I went for an interview yesterday 20/9/13 and I was called the night before by Rhiannan who said the same thing. I then became suspicious but I went along anyway. Not only did they ask me to sing but they asked me to imitate a CHICKEN!!!! This idiot then asked me to tell him a joke and the to talk for two minutes on something I am passionate about. I then had to sit for around two hours with two other guys and listen to the same man give a Powerpoint demo on the company and showed me pictures of all these wonderful people who didn't look like they knew what day it was. Then he offered three of us a job and I asked 'what is the job?' but he didn't tell me. I asked what the companies USP's and he muttered that they were not the cheapest but they did CARE about the customers!!! What a load of BS. He then said the next course was on 14th October but he might be able to get us on a course starting on Monday 23/9/13. What surprise!! The other person said yes.... I arrived in High Wycombe at their offices at 10 am and at 2.35 pm I still did not know what job they were offering me and they didn't even offer a cup of tea or a sandwich so I sat in their 'BISTRO' which is some tables and chairs with a vending machine and bought myself a packet of crisps whilst the girl called Laura went off to prepare our contracts. At this stage I got someone to let me out {You are actually locked in and cannot get out!!!) and I left. I got a phone call about ten minutes later but I rejcted it. Believe me, I am 59 years old and a very experienced sales rep but I never had to imitate a chicken to get a job! All I wanted was a company who had something to offer their customers good.
