After reading earlier responses below jogged my memory and I remember answering the phone a couple of week's ago - they asked if I would take part in a Scottish Govt Survey, I declined and hung up.

- The Model Tree Shop| 2 repliesThis company calls our business phone at least 3 times a day and there is never anyone there! I am so angry that this can be allowed.
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Wayfarer replies to The Model Tree ShopIt isn't allowed. Which makes me wonder what the hell is the point of registering with the TPS. I've had several calls from this firm over the last month, despite telling them I'm not interested and they're not to ring back. I'm damn sure I get more of this stuff since I registered with the TPS than I ever did before. Before I registered with TPS, cold/scam/sales calls averaged 1 or 2 a day. Since registering I get a dozen a day.
At one point I told them I'd complain to the TPS about their calls. I didn't succeed in doing that - complaining is a complete PIA - as I'm now convinced it's intended to be. People are making money from this stuff, and no-one - even BT - are the slightest bit interested in stopping it.
Some handsets can block calls, but not all. But I've been assured BT could do this at source for every customer - simply an extension of their caller display service. Clearly they just don't want to as long as it generates a profit. - Wayfarer replies to The Model Tree ShopThere is a part-answer. On my own fairly basic phone, I add such numbers to my caller list under "Scam." But it only takes a few of these, so to register a new one I have to lose an older one. But it's a help at least. I did buy a gadget to filter calls - cost me £40 I couldn't afford. About as much use as mammaries on a male bovine - ended up in a charity shop.
- AlanScam
- ValerieCalls regularly, but hangs up when I answer.
