Got a call from this number (1471 call-back) Thank heavens for answer-phone facilities!! I am sick to the back teeth of all of these phone calls and report them every time. I received a phone call from a call barring company telling me that normal call bar cannot stop these nuisance phone calls as they are generated overseas and/or number withheld but for an up front fee of £35 they can bar ALL calls Was so tempted but as they called me I wondered if this was ANOTHER SCAM?!! Also wonder if this isn't a scam how come they can stop all of these calls whereas the normal call bar facility can't??

Keep getting calls from these jerks. Have now reported them via the ICO website. Please do the same if you read this!

I'm sick and tired of these calls, i wish the law does something about these niusensence calls....

Cold called - lied about authorisation.

This has been going on for over two weeks .debt auto message and if i want to hear more press 5 !!!!!!!! As if .

Did not request a call from this company who phoned me on my business landline

I have had 2 calls today from this number trying to tell me that i am owed money for an accident. I have had no accident and can't seem to find out where this is coming from. However, i did report an accident for a friend yesterday and would be shocked if that private conversation had led to this automated call harrassing me during the day.

Just had a call from this number - recorded message - annoying - did not even ask them to call me .... after the call I dial 1477 to report it as malicious  ............. I am ex-directory so they should not be phoning me anyway ...............

i have an e direct number and nobody should get my phone number pestered with phone calls from 01542842715, and as soon as it comes in and i find out that it is this i put the phone down immediately but it jams up my line.  who are they? does anyone know? preferences services says they cannot help. and these phone calls are just a pure nuisance.  WHO CAN STOP THEM - NOBODY SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO HELP.  WHY IS PHONE PROVIDERS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY IN STOPPING THESE GOING THROUGH ON PEOPLES LINES.  THERE IS SURELY SOMETHING THEY CAN DO?

Had 2 calls from this number today as well. Pressed 5 and got through to an Indian call centre. They asked how they could help me. I started to say they could by removing my number from their system but they hung up on me.

Am registered with TPS, so going to report them. Probably won't stop them though.

i have been registered with the tps for years and years but i still get lots of nuisance calls the latest being 01542842715 and international how can i get these to stop?

had an increase in spam calls this last month.  Either wanting to reduce my debt or help me claim for an accident.  I have neither, so I have no clue why they want to ring me, or how they are getting my number.

Have been ex-directory and TPS registered for years (not that it seems to do any good), and report each call to ICO.

This company rang twice today once at lunchtime, when I heard the recorded message, I hung up, and later this afternoon, when my answerphone kicked in and there was no message left, just silence.

We keep getting these calls too about how to recover from outstanding debt, like the other comments, I'd say...What debts???  I don't have any, don't even have a mortgage anymore!! I decided to listen to the Automated voice message, hope there would be an option to cancel these calls. I got the following options. 1) Press 2 if you would like more information (Have they also already got my address then?) or press (9!!!!) if you would like to cancel and not receive anymore calls!!!  Alarm bells started to ring, as there was some scam from abroad some years ago, where you were asked to press 9 and hang up. Then unbeknown to you, these people would rack up your phone bill by Thousands before you knew it!  I put the phone down. Anymore of these calls, the phone either gets ignored or lifted and put straight down again.

We've only had a phone line in 2 days! No-one knows we've got a number yet! Aaargh!

This company calls on a daily basis, we are also number unlisted & part of the telephone preference service.  When my Mother answers the phone a recorded message infers that the call is about monies due but does not make it clear whether they owe us or we owe them, and asks you to press a number.  When I dialled 1471 then dialled the number it just has one continuous beep so go figure on that one eh?

This is what I found out about these calls:

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is warning landline and wireless consumers about scammers who are calling from what appear to be domestic phone numbers. The FCC  has recently learned that an old long distance phone scam that leads consumers to incur high charges on their phone bills may now affect wireless consumers. In the past, consumers have been fooled into making expensive international calls by scam artists who leave messages on consumers’ answering machines or their email accounts. The messages urge consumers to call a number with an “809,” “284,” “876,” or some other area code to collect a prize, find out about a sick relative, or engage in sex talk.

Wireless consumers are now receiving similar calls from phone numbers with three-digit area codes that appear to be domestic, but are actually associated with international pay-per-call phone numbers. While wireless companies are working to block suspicious numbers on their networks, some consumers may become victims of this scam.

Tip: Use a reverse phone lookup service to help identify a caller you are unfamiliar with before you return a phone call. For example, try https://whocallsme.com.

The Scam Works Something Like This:
Your wireless phone rings once or twice and then disconnects the call. When the number appears in your wireless phone log as a missed call, it appears to be a typical domestic telephone number starting with a “649” area code; or you get an email or voicemail (on your residential wired telephone) telling you to call a phone number with an “809”, “284”, “876” or some other three-digit international area code.
When you return the call, you assume you are making a domestic long distance call – as “649,” “809,” “284,” “876” and other area codes involved in this scam, appear to be typical three-digit U.S. area codes.
When you dial the three-digit area code plus the number, however, you are connected to a phone number outside the United States, often in Canada or the Caribbean, and are charged expensive international call rates, and may be charged for pay-per-call services as well. (In this case, “649” goes to the Turks and Caicos, “809” goes to the Dominican Republic, “284” goes to the British Virgin Islands, and “876” goes to Jamaica.)
You don’t find out about the higher international call rates until you receive your phone bill.
What You Can Do to Minimize the Risk of This Happening to You:
Check any unfamiliar area codes before returning calls.
Be aware that there are many 3-digit area codes (mostly in the Caribbean) that connect callers to international telephone numbers.
If you do not otherwise make international calls, ask your local or wireless phone company to block outgoing international calls on your line.
