I had the misfortune of encountering this lot 3 years ago. Recently graduated and very naive to the world of work, I went along to the interview in central manchester after replying to a very generic 'Marketing Position' ad on Monster.

The first interview was conducted by a very charming Canadian man, it was very informal and he was very positive about me and my CV, but he didn't go into too much detail about the role. They asked me to return the day after for a follow up which is where it all went wrong. I was told that I would be accompanying a salesman on the road and asked to wear comfortable shoes (which should have set alarm bells ringing).

I wrongly assumed that the travelling would be to a wholesaler or at worst independent retailers, but what it amounted to was little more than peddling makeup door-to-door. We travelled by rail to a small town outside Rochdale and after about half an hour of knocking on doors I gave up and left the 'salesman' to it and took the train back to Manchester.

To add insult to injury I even had to pay my own train fare!

To anyone who is approached by this or similar roles, I would advise you to avoid at all costs. We all have to start somewhere, but there are a lot more legitimate and rewarding ways to earn a living (even in telesales). Shame on Monster et al for allowing this to go on.

After reading this it is very interesting to read what some of you guys have to say about the company.

Alot of you have said that you have never heard of "SMS", "Junior Enterprise's" etc etc...

and of course you havent, because when we are out and about doing field sales we arent from "SMS", we are working for our clients so as far as any consumer is aware we work for the client, thats just common sense. The results of the company speak for themselves. as TalkTalk are one of the clients and as a whole roughly 80% of there growth has come from these marketing firms over the last 3 years.

I personally work for "SMS", and i won't lie to you when i say its REALLY hard work, so if you dont think you can quite pull a 12 hour day then just don't bother applying, the only reason i'm doing the job is of course for the job promotion prospects, which despite what many of you have said are real, and they do happen as you see them around on a day to day basis.

Whats really great is when you actually get the job and you meet the rest of the people you realise they are all just as ambitious as you are, which is a great atmosphere to be in.

If you think you are a miserable person which a [***] attitude i wouldnt bother applying as you will only quit within the first week or two.

In ways it was a leap of faith for myself and of course if you havent had any sales experience then the first couple of weeks will be pretty useless, its the same with anything though, you are never any good at it when you first start off which is why you have to learn how to do it properly.

If you have the drive and determenation to do the job then i would recommend it, if not then your probably like the rest of the people on this site and complaning about it whilst being unemployed living off benefits

    Not a scam

    Hello everyone,

Now I have read through a lot of these posts but I feel I am obliged to correct a few things and state it how it is. I am not going to say everything I have read is not correct but the vast majority of it is and I feel it is unfair for those people who don't really understand the concept of it to effect other people opportunity.

First of all the scam part just doesn't make sense neither does it being called a pyramid scheme. A pyramid scheme involves head-hunting individuals, also it doesn't have any direct clients and only sales from within. Do you think these companies such as The Red Cross would let themselves be represented by a scam company. Also pyramid schemes are illegal which is another reason why this isn't one. Also with a pyramid scheme an individual can never earn more than the person above them, which in this case you can.

The scam part I find hard to understand why people think this, yes you may feel that it has been mis-advertised, but the actual training program is not. Let me give you some maths.

For an average TALK TALK contract it is £25 a month, over a 24 month contract that's £500. So if the target is 4 a day that equates to £2,000. Now if you can teach and train for example ten other people to do that then it's £22,000 a day. Now any client or smart person would see someone who can do that as being a good investment and would want to support them in opening up their own office and if you can teach and train ten people then surely that is enough for you to deserve to become a manager.

Talk Talk paid the X factor £7 million to sponsor them this year, now because they only pay out to the company for every application which is around £25 per application form, they can generate a substantial profit, which is one of the reasons as to why these use them. Now to the individual if your doing a minimum of 3 a day, that's £75, over 6 days (yes it's on a Saturday, so what, what do you think the people in the shops do at the weekend and if you were a manager, wouldn't you want to be able to maximise your profit, especially on a day when most people are in) =£450per week, £1,800 a month, £21,600 per annum which is far better than a lot of jobs advertised. Now of course you can surpass this and there is no great skill or talent involved, it is worked on the basis if you speak to enough people with a good attitude then you will find people who are interested in the product.

The reason it is performance pay is because how many people do you think if they went out door-to-door on their own for 8 hours and were on a basic would give it their all, not many as there would be no incentive. Also this is a management training program, so by joining it you want to become a manager so it makes sense as a manager that if your wages aren't fixed, but are rather based on sales then you will never make a loss and never go out of business. The door to door part of things gets you speaking to many different and diverse people with different reactions, building relationships with individuals and learning to take negatives= all of which are needed in order to be a successful manager. Yes it involves long hours but why not put the hard work in now rather than later and if you think you don't have to work hard to be a successful and financially stable individual then you are kidding yourselves. What self made entrepreneur do you know who made it on a basic wage?

I think that is pretty much it, I hope I have cleared things up for a lot of people with factual rather than fictional information. If anybody has any questions, feel free to ask, as I said I feel it is unfair for people to gain an opportunity like this by being effected by narrow minded individuals.

    If its not a scam
Why did they not wish to give me a copy of the signed contract?
Why do they not state it's self employment for the start?
Why do they keep changing their trading name?
Why do the place adds in Reed.co.uk stating it's a salary job of 20K?
Why do they tell you to state if asked about paying tax that you have been unemployed and not to mention Junior Enterprise Ltd, Norwich?
Why do they move to new towns or Cities so oftern?
Why is there so many people out there that feel its a scam?

Believe me its is a SCAM and Junior Enterprises Ltd Norwich are to be avoided at all cost, IT'S A SCAM

Why do they keep changing their trading name?

When you get promoted as a manager you decide the name of your company so you would move to a city and open up. Or if you are promoted as a manager and the existing manager leaves you with the office then you can change the name of that office you are currently at.

Why do they move to new towns or Cities so often?

Because if you weren't aware it is a fast track management training program which means that people being promoted do so in under a year. They then can open up somewhere else, its called growth. So if it a scam then why are there so many new offices being opened up by these people who just like anybody started by knocking doors.

    To those in NORWICH:

SRM / SMS orford place is not the only one. There are 2 identical ones (one called Next Generation Marketing) in Sackville Place (Magdalen Street). Had the "juice," the morning meetings, etc. So please watch out. Im sure this will be the case in other cities too.

oh, they told me it was door-to-door after about an hour on my first "training" day, but waited till we were at the car before thinking to inform me that we were going all the way to Thetford. Lovely, lovely Thetford.

You should only ever be self-employed if you are working for yourself

    Thanks guys and ladies.

This as put my mind to rest, i read the add on jobs24, which advertised customer service wanted in marketing and media. once at my interview i found that this there is potential of travelling, which is all fine and well pending on weather you get paid for ware and tear or not. once i came out of my interview i could not make heads or tails of the company and what the positon i applied for entatiled me doing. i also found they were wanting somone more with the ability to market as nothing was mentioned of customer service the main word that kept coming up was marketing. the website is not very informatic niether. I could not make head or tales of it or understand what market the company is working towards.

After reading all of your comments on the company, it as given me more dowt on weather the company is ligit or not. I understand from readding all the comments, this is a self employed posistion and a door to door sales, this was not mentioned in the advert nor in the first interview i am not one to full fill this sort of job. I do not feel comfortbale about the company in any way.The set up was not to a proffessional standard considereing they are in marketing, nothing in the office sold to me. dont bother going as the job is not what you think it is. I wasted one journey in going today i am not going to waste another tomoro to find i am commited into doing the job that does not pay the bills every month, as you will find when you recieve a email requesting you to go to another interview they will ask for you you to sign agreement. Why would they want you to sign an agreement form when you have not got the job yet, to me an agreement form is something you sign when you got the job BEWARE. I believe this is a scam.

Omg did you say Bill gates, big stocky guy really tall? Yes i had interview with them last year and I have gone applied not realising that g force and primus are same company too. Went to the interview, bit of a dodgey place for building, couldnt find it at first, new to manchester and going up for my interview, the place looked rubbish, the doors looked crooked and just dirty and everything was just not right, you know when you get a gut feeling. Went in office and it was so brill! I thought to myuself. Its a scambig time, I DID NOT DO A DEGREE to get in job like that, and the guy was an arrogant snob! just throwing numbers at me trying to confuse me. Wateva! Next day i get call and i said I'm sorry can't make it.
I'm glad this page is here and i saw this, wasting my time. Jobs today should really sort it out!

Same here too. Omg they are big scammers i was thinking how can a job like that advertise make it standout, you can earn 350-500 a week? Come on! And with a job that says no expereince needed.
I went for another company in same place and I think i was treated a bit rudely. The guy was all full of himself and arrogant and just big stocky guy. Boasting and showing off really, that is not how you conduct an interview.
