Called around 12:30, answerphone picked it up, no message left, i called number back but it was unobtainable. I am also registered with TPS

Not sure what company trying to make it sound like they were calling from a government agency but they obviously are not.

I am registered with the telephone preferrence service and also the email and mail services.  My telephone has a paid for service barring calls from telephone numbers where the number is withheld and this co. appear to be getting round it by giving a number not in service

I had the same today as the rest that have posted. They should be shut down for nuisance calling.

They have called again and keep calling. Any way to stop this?

That number has phoned us about 10 times all in all. we just don't answer it as we have caller ID.They phoned today at 09.40am and during the day we're at work. I just called them back to see who there were and the phone goes dead.

We have had several calls from this number in the last few days. When we pick the phone up, there is no reply but the time clock on our handset keeps registering that the call is still open. I did 1471 to get the number but when I dialed it, there was no dialing tone. Instead a disembodied voice said that the number was unobtainable, please try again.

I dialed a BT 0800 number to complain, spoke to an operator to complain, she said it was probably a sales call and said she would transfer me to a colleague to deal with it. After listening to Eine Kleine Nacht Music for five minutes, I put the phone down. There seems to be no easy way to stop these nuisance calls. (We are registered with BT Telephone Preference Service to try to avoid unwanted sales calls.)

We had a similar experience of a some 'silent calls' a few months ago. They turned out to be British Gas trying to contact me to arrange a date to service out boiler.

My son, who knows more about telephone systems that I do, said that our number would have been dialled by a computer whilst the operator was dealing with another call. If you pick up the phone before the operator has finished dealing with the call, the operator does not respond, so the computer dials you again later. The answer is not to pick up the phone until it has rung several times; this allows the operator time to deal with the other call.

If you have an LED display on your handset, you can ask BT to display the caller's number. There is no charge for this service.

The Snozwangler website says that this number is from a company trying to sell cavity wall insulation and they give the impression of being a government agency. There are grants available for insulation. We had our house done in 1976 by ICI and have saved the cost many time over with lower heating bills. Deal with a repiutable company!

December 2007.....received three calls in the last week all silent.....but this time I left the answer phone on....and guess what......they called again and after someone said "hello".....realised it was an answer machine....but the women did not hang up...instead she talked to her co-workiner about Christmas shopping and lots of office noise...her call filled my answer machine...I too have complained....but to no avail.

When I answered the phone there was a long delay before a woman spoke. Lots of chatter in the background. I realised they were cold calling and hung up.

just recived a call 09.31 on 02.01.08 asked for someone and they hung up. Background was realy noisy.

this number called me today- it has called before, but yet again hung up after my saying hello.

Looks like they're still at it months after the cases reported here. They called and by the time I picked the receiver up they'd hung up. To confirm Bob's suspicions (3 Nov 2007), 1061 numbers *are* Manchester numbers (I live near Bolton, just outside Manchester).

These pests are trying to sell cavity wall and loft insulation.  They are already well-known for making nuisance calls.  

I hope I am not pointing the finger wrongly at an innocent firm, but I found this in a directory of insulation specialists.  The telephone number is remarkably similar. They MAY be the culprits.

Just received a call from this number - exactly same scenario as Louise (26 Oct 2007)My number is registered with TPS so I will be reporting this to them also

Just had a call (didn't get to answer it - just as well after looking on here !) from this number - looked it up as thought it might be from work or something (I live in Bolton near Manchester, too).  

I'm also with TPS so will look up how to report it to them - thanks for all the postings on here, very helpful !
