Everything ive heard about them is dodgy by giving misleading info about who they are etc. saying they work with the police and are going to distribute 25000 copies.would love to know where these get sent to because sigma dont want to tell me! Have just sent email saying im not paying themwith a load of legal literature so lets see what happens now

- deltec| 2 repliesI too am having problems with SIGMA. I was contacted to be the only one in my line of business in the magazine to be distributed in Glasgow. I thought it sounded like a good opportunity but I wanted to see it first, as I had never heard of it so I asked them to send the Blue Light Magazine. When it arrived it had an invoice for £350. There were no terms & conditions or cancellation notice. I called to dispute this and was told I had entered into a verbal contract over the phone which had been recorded. I expressed then that I wished it to be cancelled and that any correspondance/communication should be written from this point onwards.
I recieved many phone calls over the next 2 months, which I ignored, then recieved a "Precursor to Legal Action" letter saying that any legal cost will be added to the bill.
The Police say this is a civil dispute and won't entertain it. Trading standards both in Scotland and England were interested in it and gave me advice on what to include in a letter and are looking into it. I requested all recorded conversations between myself and sigma and a list of all the places they have distributed the magazine.
I then received a call today offering me 15% off if I pay up using my credit card. I asked them if they recieved my letter and they said they are sending me everything that I requested, leading me to believe that they are not letting this go. I am fearful that they will carry out their legal threats.
They have cleverly let enough time lapse between invoice and the second notice that it is difficult for me to get out of any "contract".
It remains to be seen what their next move will be but mine will be to involve a lawyer.- Caller: Sigma
- deltec replies to deltec| 1 replyIt is also interesting to note that Sigma is VAT registered and is the trading name of Andrew Lownsborough who has previously traded under VARDIS and VISION group as well as CROWN debt recovery. From my research on the internet it would seem that Mr Lownsborough's Vardis was investigated by trading standards in 2010 and ceased trading - very suspicious!
- JD replies to deltecI spoke to trading standards today and they have sent my complaint about Harris Cromwell / Vision Group to Action Fraud.
- JD replies to chris| 3 repliesCancel your cheque - you shouldn't be paying any money to these fraudsters.
- ken replies to JD| 2 replieshi has anyone got an address & email for sigma publishing
thanks - deltec replies to ken| 1 replyinfo@sigma.gb.com
- ken replies to deltecthanks for that .you not got an address then?
- ken| 2 repliesive been scammed by sigma but have not received an invoice yet.
i have reported it to trading standard.and also contacted my M.P. He seems very interested in this.he does not know much about it but is going to contact his fellow MP,S from the area where sigma are based which i believe to be liverpool, can anyone confirm this.
If everyone on this site contacts their mp,s & askes them to contact mp,s on the area (ie Liverpool?)
maybe just maybe we may get some action.
for this reason i am trying to find out sigmas address if anyone can help... - Deltec replies to ken| 1 replyTrident House 31-33 Dale street Liverpool L22HF
0800 035 2131 - ken replies to Deltecthanks for that.just found another address ,PO box 304 lathom, ormskirk, lancashire L40 5WB?
any more developments for you? - Ian Smith replies to cainan robertsYou may find that your comment of "yes ok" they will take as a verbal contract. I had problems with sigma last year, I got a phone call from someone in Manchester saying the conversation I had in February where I said NO was me actually saying yes and they worked on verbal contracts. He said he would send the invoice etc I told him that it wouldnt be paid. He got quite agressive quoted all manor of consumer acts at me and then hung up. It is obviously a scam, just be careful in your wording to them as they quote verbal contracts and say they record everything. I suspect it is all nonsense and would not have a leg to stand on legally, but who needs the hassle.
- Christina| 10 repliesAlso using a mobile number today of 07872-693335 - Jonathan Green (although the name on the answerphone message doesn't quite sound the same as Jonathan Green, whom I spoke to. Left a message to say don't want to go ahead, before Sigma can call me back. Will email sigma to confirm don't want to go ahead, now or ever again (obviously I was daft enough to be taken in by this last year! )
Have got a mag from last year - nice and glossy, quite informative etc but nothing to do with our local area. I wonder if I was the only one to receive a copy!?! Offered ad for £245 again (+ VAT) but when I said we'd already spent our advertising budget he immediately dropped the price to £195 INCLUDING VAT!
FUnnily enough I had a call yesterday from another company, with very similar shpeil from 'Child Safety Support', who are a new name for The Forresters Fund FOr children, I can only assume!! (Yes, I got taken in by them too last year!!!). I queried who they were as I didn't recall their name or have any prior paperwork, and they said we kindly helped them out last November sometime - I have no idea what he was talking about though!
That's it folks! Don't anyone call me asking if I want to advertise in a publication - the answer is a firm NO!- Caller: The Emergency Service and Community something or other
- Grant replies to Christina| 9 repliesGot called from 07519 880513 today by a bloke called David. He started saying he was local police liaison and were offering advising space in a magazine that went to all emergency services in Sussex, approx 40,000 copies etc etc.
The mistake they made was that I had the same call about a month ago from a bloke with the same name, same setup, sounds too good to be true and someone calls you back five minutes later to agree publication. I agreed a quarter page previously but when I got the email through It said half a page. I immediately got suspicious and did a bit of googling and found it was a scam. I also work in the NHS and no one had ever heard of it.
The publication they were supposedly advertising in was Crime and Security Journal.
I sent them an email saying "this is a scam, threaten to take me to court and I will gladly see you in there"
Didn't hear from them again, until the phone call today, trying the same scam. I sent a text saying "you bunch of dozy thieving pri?ks, if you are gonna try to scam the same person again, don't use the same name"
Avoid like the plague - Grant replies to Grant| 8 replies
- ken replies to Grant| 7 repliesthe protection advertising agency are scammers also , they are all linked, google them
- Deltec replies to ken| 6 repliesI went to Citizens advice bureau and they as good as said you agreed on the phone to this contract and they have you over a barrel so you might as well pay it or you will end up with their legal costs, bad credit and in court without a leg to stand on.
- ken replies to Deltec| 4 replieshave they sent all the stuff you asked for, copy of recording etc?
dont think they have sent anyone to court yet & cant see them doing it, even if they are acting within the law the last thing they would want is publicity, and the powers that be seeing how bent they are as this would result whatever loopholes being closed , therefor scam over. they will just stick to bully boy tactics.
the guy running the company, Andrew Lownsbrough just need the crap kicking out of him. - toddy66| 1 replyGot a pone call in October or November of 2011 asking if as a locksmith company if we'd like to advertise in their magazine. They informed us they got our informaton from the brithish locksmith assosiation so we though ok we'll give it a go. in December 2011 we paid the company £210.60 6 months later still no magazine but today we recived a phone call from a guy in east yorkshire who has a book and he called us to say it a scam dont pay. so i have phoned stigma and said we not recived any work or a booklet they are sending us one out (they recon) I also asked if it is for south yorkshire only and she said yes and doncaster area wich i know is now a load of BS.I have also been on phone to trading standards they have told me to right to thecompany and send it recorded delivery and write on frount BREACH OF CONTRACT. we feel like Idiots now as we have 2 kids and though during winter it would help bring in work through the emergancy services and that sort of stuff but now looks like we been shaffted big time i'm anoyed that we fell for something so bad and that money could have been spent on our children.
