had a call today asked to press 1 so i did they asked for someone  then hung up because i didnt know them

Avantis automated call. It is a recorded voice giving you options to press. No idea how they got my number or even if it is just a random dialler. this is the 3rd time they have called today.  As it is on my mobile, I will look into getting an app to block the number.

I have the same issues with calls as early as 7am and as late as 12:30am first the calls came for a miss Sharon Watson, then the name changed slightly to a miss Sharon Watford this continued and has done since I got my number 2 years ago. Every so often it's a different name as I'd not long had my son when these calls started you can imagine my annoyance at being up all night with a newborn then receiving calls at 7am it gets to the point I have to unplug the phone. Also one morning my 1yo son answered the phone and when he does so always put its on speaker and brings the phone to me. The rather rude woman was asking for a miss Sharon Watford again and he kept saying "no here" as he was bringing the phone to which she responded by calling him a "stupid little brat" to which I took the phone and asked if she thought this was professional behaviour, her response "you shouldn't have brats answering the phone miss Watson" thus not only being rude but changing the last name of whom she was looking for the moment I questioned her on that she hung up and a few moments later the same number called back. Also the reason for calling changes each time from debt collection to a missed hospital appointment. They also constantly badger my disabled mother but they royally screwed up and she realised quickly they weren't what they seemed. Mine and my mothers numbers are supposed to be ex directory and when my mother asked how they got her number they said a friend recommended her, now unbeknown to them my mother doesn't have any friends per say and also no one she knows would give out her number especially not for "a free world cruise" they claimed shed entered a competition. My mother is on oxygen 15 hrs a day so would be unable to go n a cruise without medical care so therefore would not have entered said "competition". Now anything from 2-8 calls a day.

Call today 10.40am. Rang off before I could answer. Checked here and found they are another debt company I have no business with! This is a new build and the address is less than 3yrs old! I am assuming the number I got allocated in Oct 2010 has been in use before as it is ex-directory and I get calls for a multitude of personas, unsurprisingly all from DEBT AGENCIES! Driving me up the freaking wall, looking to buy a Truecall box, at least that way I can zap them!! Go away I am not the droid you are looking for!!!!

Advantis - they use an automated calling service claiming that the call is important & to press a number to hear the message.

THIS IS A PHISHING / SCAM CALL !
By pressing the number to continue you are effectively making a call to Adventis so they have immediately bypassed the TPS. Weasel words I'm sure [press the 'x' number key], but they are how laywers make a lot of money.

Any information -even confirmation of details - you give over the phone only helps them bypass the Data Protection Act.If they can't be bothered to write to you first (with SAE for any reply) they are definitely phishing.

Their calls are threatening and abusive.i would say you need to report them to the police..I have m.e too so I know how hard life must be for you .. But reports these threats!!

Have had 2 calls from this number in 2 days stating it is an urgent message & asking me to press 1 to take me to one of their advisors and the call costs nothing. No way I am doing this as I do not know who they are. Fortunately I am aware of scams etc. so they are only wasting their time & resources and a second or 2 of mine.
Reading the previous posts it would seems they are debt collectors (I could call them something a bit stronger) I do not have any debt.
I only wish they would get one of their advisors to call and not the ACS then I would discuss the matter with them in a tone they would not like!!!!!!!

i would like to know who this is from as i just move in.

I received two calls from this number today!  The first one I missed as I arrived home and the latest one was just a few minutes ago and I answered.  There was a pause then a recorded announcement re Advantis and a contact number for them which I'm obviously not going to ring!

I've only just moved into a new property (so no previous occupants) and only one friend besides the phone company who provided my number have these details!.  

I'm wondering if when companies give new numbers to customers (as in my case) they must just recycle them from other customers who've changed details as it's also happened on my mobile from another company asking for a miss marshall which again is a new number for me from my air time provider!  
They must be selling contact details on without my permission?

phoned me 3 times today. asked who they were , just said advantis,  I get all kinds of scummy debt collectors phone me up asking for random names whom ive never heard of. what the hell do they think there going to obtain. based on everything revolves around money and there a debt co ffs

Advantis are a DEBT COLLECTION AGENCY.

Advantis are a debt collection agency, they DONT buy debts, they are placed with them from various utilities providers and actual debt buyers for things like unpaid mobile contracts.
A few things:
Ofcom regulations state that numbers can be called 3 times in a 24 hour period
Some of the things on here are quite comical. All calls are recorded so i doubt some stuff stated on here is true.
If details are wrong its what they have been provided with and cant help that
They need to ensure that they have the correct person due to the data protection act (its the law) yes they may be a bit vague but imagine this, someone you know answers your phone and says they are you, Advantis then proceed to tell them all about a debt you owe. I'm sure you'd be less than impressed. DPA protects you not them!

Oh, and as for it being a phishing scam etc....

Advantis have a massive contract with HMRC, i dont they would if they were "cowboys" or "scam artists"

Just call them, if you are adament you have no debt, just speak to them and chances are its a recycled number you have been given.
If you are in debt, ignoring them will only make things worse.

Missed three calls today from this number just picked up and a recorded voice said Advantis, put phone down and blocked that number, the only problem with the Panasonic phones is that you can block 20 numbers only.  You can guarantee that the number i delete to add this one they will return later.  These people are parasites and need to be dealt with i have better things to do with my life than constantly answer dead end calls.  

I got one call, rang them back, they asked me too many questions about myself so I hung up and told my phone not to rign if ti is that number again.

Simples. I`ll do it for their other numbers too if they ring from them.
