Kev is right - I tried to email them from their website asking to remove my number and it got sent back undelivered. I got my phone on vodafone from mobiles.co.uk and these jerks rang me within 3 days of getting the phone. I told them nothing and saved their number as 'nuisance caller 01' in my contacts so I can either hang up or swear at them next time they ring, depending what mood I'm in!

I find it hard to believe, as someone suggested eariler on this thread, that these people just phone you at random. Almost everyone commenting on here has got their phone on Vodafone through either phones4u or mobiles.co.uk. One of these companies MUST be selling numbers on - perhaps a complaint to ofcom might help?

This irish guy phone me from this number and spoke so fast I had to ask him to repeat what he said, he cut down and said something about insurance, but his accent was so strong I really did find it hard to understand him. I'm only 14 and got my phone for christmas and luckily don't know much about this stuff so I just hung up. I thought it was dodgey because if vodafone phone me it comes up as vodafone on caller ID or if its a company its an 08, and this definatly was not!

I also checked REIFS out on the FSA register and they are registered. Even with £45 up front their insurance seems to makes much better sense to me. I am saving £90 over the length of my contract compared to Carphone Warehouse's extortionate geek squad insurance @ £13.99!! with REI insurance I am only paying £5.88 per month!

I just had a call from them after taking out a phone contract through Vodaphone. They confirmed to me that they are not the original phone insurance company but they are cheaper. I have set up my insurance with them as they are a lot cheaper. £5.88 per month rather than £9.99 with phones 4 u. They are a bit sneaky in the way they talk you in to it but if they are cheaper I don't see why not take out insurance with them? Slightly worried after seeing this thread, but will wait and see. And no I do not work for them, as I am actually quite worried but don't see what I can do now? They are registered by the FSA I have checked....?

i was rang four times with a person on the end of the line claiming they were my insurance profider and that my bank details were incorrect. they asked me some security questions and correctly guessed my first four digits of my bank details but the next four digits were incorrect, these people were insistant that i update my bank details with them. I now belive that these poeple have scamed me and the following is one member from this scam team please don't litsen to the so called 'MR X'.

mr x - 25 Jun 2009can i just say that i have been contacted by this company, they offered me the insurance which is only 5.88 per month not payable for 4 months, they do charge 45 quid for the policy but it does save you nearly 100 quid in the long run against phones for u policy admin which is 9.99 with a whopping 50 quid excess fee, reifs is only 25 quid, this is perfect because you dont have the inconvenience of 9.99 on every bill? common sense to swap surely! i have been in contact with them to insure the whole families phones and find them very easy to get hold of and quite pleasant to talk to, the policy itself is administered by supercover and underwritten by equity redstar, far from a scam im afraid! just well done to them for undercutting the rip off prices on the high street!!.

    again please ignore 'MR X'!!!!!!!!!!!!

I too got a call from these folk, again vodafone and phones 4 u and I remember explicitly making sure I did not agree to the part to sell my details on.

The woman on the phone was sooooo rude and cheeky and again the spin on the conversation is crazy. I thought this is not legit. I then rang them back to complain about how rude the woman was, she was awful, and was put through to the 'manager' show said he would deal with the complaint, listen to the phone call and if this was the case she would be disciplined - I thought my [***]!

I did not give any details on the phone apart from my name .....should I be worried?

I think Phones4u are going to get a little visitor on Saturday to their door.

Hi my name is Martyn Smith, i am the customer services manager at Real Estate International, from recent experience i assume the above comments are from agents from other call centres or high street retail staff (no names mentioned!) trying to tarnish our reputation, this is purely because we offer the same cover for cheaper,(IF WE WERE SCAMMERS WE WOULD BE BEHIND BARS!!) we work very closely with compliance officers from the fsa and trading standards to ensure that the quality of our product is kept compliantly correct, and to fsa guidelines, if you have ever bought a policy from ourselves you will find that we are authorised and regulated by the financial services authority and have been since 2004, you will also find that we have to by law offer a 14 day money back guarantee which we always honour, in fact, if a customer wants to cancel outside of the 14 day cooling off period then we will also refund as we feel its not fair to 'force' a customer to keep a policy if they really do not want it. Our policy works differently to other stores/companies, they will charge you a monthly fee for the duration of your contract which is usually around the £10 mark, this equates to approx £180 and some stores have a £50 excess fee if you wanted to claim, we charge £127 over the 18 months with a £25 excess fee, the £127 is made up of 1 x £45 card payment then 14 x £5.88 direct debits which do not start until month 4, our excess fee is £25 for claims for theft, (£50 in other stores), so we simply offer a cheaper policy by taking you directly to the insurer. If any one would like further details on our policy then please call the above number, we will offer a 50% reduction on the initial payment if you mention that you have read this comment. If any of the above comments are our customers then why not call us so we can talk to you about your problem?? i find it strange and suspicious that you would rather leave a degrading comment than speak to me to get a refund? i am here between 10am - 6pm Monday to Friday.
    Many Thanks Martyn.

    Mr Smyth,

I am not another call centre nor from phones for u. I actually did ring back and complain and it was yourself I was speaking too about one of your agents attitude, rudeness and misselling of the product. I am sure you remember me as you assured me you were going to listen to the call and reprimand this staff member, I trust this has been done?

Believe me the problem is not your product or the policy. It is how you sell the product, you staff and the fact that your company is pretty much unknown.

You offered me your product at 2.50 as a goodwill gesture which is did appreciate but did not due to the sheer fact that often people will pay more money for a company they can trust and offer good customer service. Your company fails on both points.

You would secure more business and also prove your integrity by retraining your staff to sell their product in an honest and clear manner. It would also help to put your customer service skills into use, you were very amiable on the phone I have to say, and retrain all your staff in this manner also.

The rudeness I had to endure was awful, why would I give a company my money if their staff have the audacity to argue with my asking to clarify who they were and what exactly they were wishing to sell. Furthermore the caustic nature of the sellers tone did nothing for any sales pitch, I wouldnt have taken the policy for free!

Going on to the fact that you are an unknown company to most and the fact you are called Real Estate International even though you are an insurance company just adds more confusion and suspicion to the pot. You must understand, as a person yourself who I am sure has been cold called, that giving you personal details over the phone especially bank details is worrying at the best of times. Nevermind to a random company who are rattling through information in an unclear manner with staff who are only interested in notching up their sales targets for the day.

Rather than attack the comments on this page you should be showing customers that you are addressing your internal operations issues and that they can be rest assured of a good service from your company. All your posts serve to tell me is that I was right not to take a policy with yourselves as you are not focsuing on the problems your company has created for itself, only on attacking those that have the sense to recognise them.

Firstly, nicole you should contact us if you havent recieved your paperwork, 01792 222322, or email us at reifscare@yahoo.co.uk. And Mr cculllcurrrie, we have strict disciplinary procedures for agents being stern/abusive/brash on a sales call as this practise is not tolerated, our agents are salary based so there is no need to 'notch up sales' as they get paid either way, our company is unknown as we are relatively new to offering insurance on mobile phones, question: how many of you guys know who you are insured with? who heard of p.a.s or geek squad before you purchased your phone? this is why we record our calls, fsa guideline state that we have to tell the customer where we are calling from, what we are calling about, the payment structure, and that we are independant from any of the high street stores!, now if any one wants to listen to their recording be my guest, i am yet to play a recording where we have failed to mention any of the above! if a customer is not listening to an important sales call, then we are not in control of that, all we can do by them replying yes at the end of each statement is assume that they are listening!, i know if i have provided bank details to a company, then i would be listening very intently as to what is going to be happening with them!! we still feel that most of these comments are posted by rival call centre staff, and high street store staff who are trying to keep their customers on the higher priced insurance, but all customers have a choice pay high street prices or ours which saves a lot of money usual equivalent to approx 3 months line rental! (varies with type of insurance and contract). eg, if you are paying £10 per month on an 18 month contract then you pay £180 ours is £127? no brainer if you ask me! your policy is covered by Supercover who have been around for 15 years now? you can purchase this online also through www.reifs.2u.co.uk

    Many Thanks
    Martyn

For the benefit of anyone called by REI.

REI is an FSA registered company and must follow regulated compliance procedures. If you have a complaint about their services

that is not resolved you have recourse to both the Financial Services Authority and the Financial Ombudsman (details below).

    About the insurance REI supply.

REI do not supply warranties. Beware of companies who supply warranties as they are not regulated and many have been shut down

by Trading Standards Agency. Be very careful if you are offered a warranty as these do not have to be underwritten and if the

company folds your warranty folds with it.

The insurance REI supply is genuine underwritten insurance from reputable and known insurers in the market place which is designed

to save the customer money over many current high street mobile phone suppliers and their insurers who tend to overprice their

    mobile phone insurance.

The typical insurance which REI sell will cost £133.20 over the term of an 18 month phone contract (note REI insurance is monthly so

you are not locked into a contract and you can cancel at any time).

Compare this with insurance provided by the networks and high street providors.

    O2 £10.00 pm over 18 months =  £180  - Save £46.80
    Carphone Warehouse  @ £13.99pm over 18 months =  £251.82 - Save £118.62

Please note: You will always have a 14 day cooling off period in which to check that your new insurance is appropriate and please do

the sums and see if it works for you. If not you can still cancel the policy for a full refund.

    Advertising Calls

Under current laws and compliance REI are allowed to make what is termed an 'advertising call' to potential customers, however they

must say who they are and why they are calling. They also must explain all details of the product and they must not proceed with a

sale unless they get verbal confirmation from the customer.

An FSA regulated company like REI must comply with strict compliance rules and all agents follow a script which outlines who they

are and why they are calling. In the case of the script REI currently use, their agent will mention their name 3 times and also how

they are regulated, also if you take the insurance with them that you must cancel your previous policy if you have one, and finally, that REI are not associated with your mobile phone provider or current insurer. The agent will require confirmation from the customer that they understand this before they proceed. Agents are strictly monitored but if you think that these procedures have not been followed, REI would like to know so please call them on their customers sevices number 01792 222322 / 222324 so that they can investigate.

If you sign up with REI they will send you a welcome letter with all the details about themselves including contact details and how to

contact the FSA and the Insurance Ombudsman if you have a problem. For clarification this letter also states all the information again

that was given in the script by the agent. The letter also gives you a 14 day cooling off period from receipt of your policy, so that if you

are not happy about anything you have the right to cancel by calling their customer services.

    Complaints

Under FSA regulations, if you are not happy with anything you should make a complaint to the company concerned who must deal

with it in a set time guideline. REI details are set out below:

However if you are still not happy you have recourse to the Financial Ombudsman or the FSA and they will look into it for you. (all

    clarence
(To start with im 18years old, bought my phone last month from Carphone Warehouse Online, with a Vodafone contract for 2 years at £15 a month with Carphone Warehouse Geek Squad Mobile Max insurance at £6.99 per month)
Ok so i got a phone call from these guys yesterday, a woman, saying she was from an insurance company, she spoke that fast that i never actually caught the name of the company, and she was offering me insurance at £5.88 a month, rather than the £9.99 im paying now...ERRM EXCUSE ME LOVE IM ONLY PAYING £6.99 WITH CARPHONE WAREHOUSE. Anyways me being me didnt think that it could possibly be a scam, even though shes already tripped up! So i agreed to the offer, then it was can you confirm your first name, and last name which she clearly didnt know to start with as she asked me how to spell them and i could hear her typing, d.o.b, postcode, house number, telephone number, ALL my bank details, my phones make and model, and my phones IMEI number. I would apparently get 3 months free so i wouldnt have to pay anything until may...BUT we need you to pay £45 now.... (WTF!!!!) i explained to her that im currently unemployed on JSA so she said she could lower it to £22.50 and it would be taken out in the next couple of days, she didnt really explain what it was for even after id asked. Then she said i should cancel my direct debit with my current insurance, then she just said that id have details through the post in 3/5 working days, that was about it really then she put me through to "Quality Control" so they can make sure she'd done her job properly. it was a guy that answered and just confirmed all my details, and said thanks, bye...

Im very cautious now after reading all 5 pages of ITS A SCAM on every single comment, barring 2 or 3. i currently have no money in my bank anyway with being unemployed, but i was going to go and put some money in that i have had to borrow so that its in there when they take it out but ive had second thought on if i should do it now.
i have checked the so called website, and the only thing that matches up is the payments of £5.88 per month, nothing else, not even the contact address for swansea, which is where the people have rang me up from as its a swansea area code, nothing!

i think im going to go to my bank, make them aware of the situation, make it so that a payment cant come out, ring the same number up that rang me and IF anyone answers i'll just say i want to cancel coz apparently you get a 14 day period to do so... and with all the comments im not taking any chances in trusting them. i might not have much money but the couple of pounds i do have i want to keep safe!

I really hope i havent been a fool in believing them but at this moment in time it really does sound like i have been :(

Hi Clarence, Martyn Smith here customer services manager at REIFS, firstly the 'ITS A SCAM' are usually left by disgruntled staff from the high street stores because we cut them out as the 'middle man', understandably they get p'd off because they lose commission if you cancel your policy with them, we have had cases where they actually tell the customer to completely cancel their bank account all together, we feel that this is far from treating customers fairly as it can cause immense panic and unnecessary stress, secondly, if you are on a reduced rate of insurance with the store it usually means that you will not have all the features of the more expensive one, its best to check your terms and conditions to make sure you are adequately covered! I am here to answer your questions between 10am - 6pm mon - fri 01792 222 322 if you, or any one that comments on this site needs answering!
I still find some of the comments outrageous and sometimes hilarious, if you have a problem its always best to call us not rely on comments left on a forum that is wide open for abuse?, that will not solve anything or get your refund!! I think its about time that the high street stores started using our insurance, every problem will be solved and a lot of people will save a lot of money!!
