just had a call from this number, relating to a road traffic accident i had in 2011, they claimed solicitors had passed my details to them as i was due £10000 compensation. obviously i realised it was a load of pants, but what i was more concerned about was how they knew my name and that i was in a car accident and also how they attained my phone number. when i quizzed the caller they rabbled some nonsense about road traffic authorities. i attempted to phone the number back, and it suprisingly didnt ring, however it did go on to an automated message which said this number has been discontiued due to breach of term and conditions.

i dont have, and have never had skype, yet recieved a call from this number?

You don't need to have Skype, it is only the caller that needs it.  This use of fake UK numbers via Skype is used by all the overseas scammes to disguise their origins.

My girlfriend phoned me abroad using Skype and it was this number that came up on the display

This number is still in operation, just received a missed call on my mobile and a silent call from in on the home phone. Interestingly I've been submitting these details online recently for various things, and the mobile number is new, so I can't help but feel internet security is compromised somewhere :S

Some comparison sites sell on our info, even if we have opted out .  If I have to use them I give my landline number as 01000 000000 and never give my mobile number.  Even with these precautions I received a call from a company offering motor insurance minutes after I had been on a comparison site.  They had obviously found it by using my address which, of course you have to give.  I reported the call to TPS.

Guy speaking with an indian accent called from this number asking me to offer courses and advertise for free on their sites called hotcourses.com.  Asked me to verify email address and then to put in my bank details as they would transfer any monies owed to me via bacs from students who booked with me.  It sounded interesting at first but thought I'd just type this number in to check it out. I was just about to input my bank details but for some reason, the phone got cut off.  He called again but I decided not to answer.  I then got a call from a blocked number but decided not to answer.

I simply found a missed call from this number. they did not leave any message and I checked because that prefix could be from a valid caller

Silent Caller

This is a number that appears if someone calls you from Skype.  If I call my own cellphone from Skype (to find the phone) this comes up.
