0208

I am getting calls from this number.  I dont know why it shows just 4 digits.  A female said she wanted to take a few minutes of my time for a survey.  I told her I was not interested.  These calls inevitable end in them trying to sell something and having got more of your details annoying you even more.

I just had a call from this number asking if I'm the lady of the house. I knew it must be a marketing or sales call like I had before so I said "depends". Don't know what's problem with the word "depends", suddenly he's getting aggressive and unreasonable. First he refused to tell me where he's calling from and the reason he gave me is I might be a criminal. Fine. Then he's accused me being rude to him. All I ask is where he calling from and the person name he wanted to speak to. Oh, and of course that word "depends". Then he told me to hang up. I said why don't you hang up since you called me. He said they are not authorised to hang up. I can't help but started laughing at that point. It's too comical. What kind of call is that?!! I put him on speaker and walked away, well, since he can't hang up on me as he claimed. Guess what, he hung up. I wish I had found this thread earlier and had got a whistle in hand.

keep recieving 0208 calls, strange number! when i have answered they put the fone down. how can i stop them its sooooooo annoying. i ave an illness and can do without the stress of answering the fone to these idiots. help.

I had these people phone me today. That was after 044208 phoned me as well. I'm sure they are the same outfit. Both asked for my wife who died last year. I told the first caller to delete my number from the database. Imagine my outrage when the 2nd call came through and I had to go through the whole business again and she STILL wanted me to 'help' her. The 044208 thread on this website has a common TalkTalk link going through the posts. I wonder if this 0208 problem is the same.

Received a call from this number today asking for the 'lady of the house'  then the man of the house when they were told I was not in.  When my husband asked who they are they hung up.  Will not be answering any more of these calls.  We are with Talk Talk by the way

I've been called tonight at 8.55 pm - 0208. I didn't answer as it looked suspect - looks like I was right! They left a message on the answermachine - but it was silent. I won't be impressed if I get any more calls - I like the whistle idea best .....

I received several calls from this number this evening, the last being about 15 minutes ago (10:30pm)
No-one ever speaks to me, I get silence and they just hang up...must be an auto-dialler keeps dialing my number but no-one available to talk to me at that time...not that I am at all interested in what they have to say/sell/whatever!!!
Loving the whistle idea, I'm sure my daughter has one somewhere...God help them if the call in the middle of the night!!!

We started getting calls from 0208 and 00000000000 last week and they are now numerous.  The Virgin Media 1471 lady sounds quite sexy when she says oh,oh,oh,oh,oh,oh,oh,oh but after a while the novelty wears off.

Nothing Virgin can do apparently with these as they are not withheld numbers.

I have had two phone calls from this number twice this week to my work phone, both times I have missed them! The next time they call I will pick it up and place the receiver away whilst I carry on working :) if they cant put the phone down and I wont put the phone down then they are in trouble :)

I answered the phone and the person they wanted wasn't here so i told them but they just wouldn't go away!!!! I did the stupid thing of giving MY details which i really regret and i'm a little bit worried now!!! Could anything bad happen???? Bit scary!

silence then  an indian are you the owner of this phone?we are Aconsumer survey [so they say] i asked how he got my number as all these type of numbers are normally blocked on my phone
all i heard was woo woo woo.. so i just warned the idiot one more call and ill cut his bloody gonads off

My son answered a call from 0208 last night at 18.10 but he couldn't hear them properly and told them to call back! They called again today at 12.00 and when I answered the phone it went dead.  I am also with Talktalk.  Wil not speak if they ring again...

We have been called a couple of times by this number, the first time it was 0440208 now it is just 0208. Both times just silence after I answered it. Now I know what this is about, the next time they call I can have some fun! The whistle idea sounds good, but I have sone other ideas that should put them off calling again ;-)

Been getting lots of calls from this number in the last week, not just this number but other numbers as well, I'm actuallt Ex directory so it's not as though my number has come from the phone book, who is it and what are they going to try and sell me?

Had this 0208 number call me repeatedly they even left a message on my answer phone just saying hello...hello...hello....hello! Sounded like a Call Centre in India from the background noise.

We've had 7 calls today from 0208, no one is there when we pick up. Phone calls started in the morning and finally stopped at 7:30pm.

I have been plagued with calls from numbers which come up on my caller ID as withheld, international, and finally 0208 today. They all do the same thing, they hang up when we answer. I've tried leaving it to ring before answering and answering before the first ring is complete. And still, they hang up. Last night, my husband answered and there was a real person at the other end of the line. Clearly, I have the wrong genitalia. Anyhow, my hubby is a bit of a joker and thought he'd string them along. They asked if our postcode was 'xxxx xxx' (which was correct, not that we'd tell them that) and my hubby said no, it's PI55 0FF. He then told them his name was Alfred Von Trapp who lives at 64 Zoo Lane, and was within the age bracket 75 and over. I fear I may be plagued with calls for the foreseeable future asking for 'Alfie' or 'Mr Von Trappe' - he once told them his name was Lenny and I had to field calls for Lenny for a good year. Men.

Came charging indoors from the garden to answer the phone and didn't look at the display (silly me!) and it just clicked off when I answered. when I looked it said 0208 and I looked it up on here (thanks for providing this facility!). It is now registered in my phone as SCAM! and hopefully I will be more diligent in looking at the caller display! I have several set up now. If someone phones from a WITHHELD/PRIVATE OR INTERNATIONAL number they must tell me in advance (!), leave a message or be ignored! I urge everyone to do the same. Being listed ex directory clearly makes no difference. What bothers me is that it is such a waste of time and I worry so much for the elderly, infirm or confused when they get these calls. with all the technology available - and the high prices paid for telephony, I find it incredibly difficult to understand why we still have to be plagued by such calls and why it can't be stopped.
