My conclusion.....it is the DUMBEST SCAM i've encountered......
I just screened the number on my mobile.......they loose - MZI worked for Symphony and in the telemarketing industry.
I'll explain briefly about Symphony, telemarketing, insurance, your personal details, safety, CPP, Bonuslink, CPP Maybank.
Symphony offers various outsourcing services and one of them is Telemarketing, their larger services would be as issuing house, they are behind the issuing of Maxis shares and re-listing on Bursa. They even clear most of the cheques in Malaysia as a clearing house. So this is a reputable company.
As for Symphony telemarketing, they promote products from banks, insurance etc. All are done within the Banking and financial institution Act (BAFIA). Everything is audited thoroughly. Risks of dealing with them are almost none.
As for where they get your details, they are from the sponsors e.g. banks, assurance, insurance. When we sign up a credit card or any financial products, most Terms & Conditions (T&C) have a small clause that they are allowed to use the customer's information for marketing, added services etc etc and these information can be given to parties involved with the company. So in cases where the bank or insurance launches new product, they can market it to their own customers within their database i.e. you & I. The banks may opt to engage with an outsourcing company that complies with their security & audit requirement. These info are treated with great confidentiality and highly supervised at Symphony and by the banks.
Most of the time, they will sell insurance products: life, general, CPP, credit guard. Some banks product i.e. cash on call, loans etc. Sometimes, the banks don't provide all information. Maybe they give only your name and phone number. Therefore the agents will have to ask other info like credit/debit card number & expiry date or savings account number, address to send the policy, IC and confirm name spelling for the policy to be in your name.
The tip is never to reveal your CVVN number (its at the back of your card, near the signature) Without CVVN, no purchases can be made online, so you should be safe. And if for savings/current account, don't give your password/PIN code. Careful because some fraud company ask for these information, next thing you know, money gone.
The agents make the calls on behalf of the banks/insurance. So they'll say they're calling on behalf of.... which is correct and legit. Their job is to market the products, and hey, mostly are very good products!
CPP for example is a very useful product as a supplement for your credit/debit card. Its like an insurance for your cards when your card/wallet are lost/stolen. Very affordable too. CPP is sold by many banks e.g. HSBC, Hong Leong, Stanchart, Maybank, CIMB etc etc... CPP is a UK based company. Try google CPP Maybank! You'll find CPP in M2U website. Bonuslink also collaborate with CPP to provide the service to bonuslink cardholders, through Symphony.
If you're irritated by the calls, pick up the calls, tell them you want out of the marketing channel. They'll stop. Many people like to say they are busy and then don't want to answer later. Telemarketers will call until someone answer. So just tell them, they'll stop.- Caller: Symphony
