Nationwide calling after I went in for a mortgage meeting last week. Left an answer phone message and gave me a number to call back on.

i work for NBS, its a generic number for all branches/departments etc.

It's only Nationwide Building Society - I had an appointment with a financial advisor which I forgot about and they called me to rearrange. Legitimate number :)

I don't have and never have had any accounts with Nationwide or any of their subsidiary companies, yet I get dead calls from this number and it is starting to pi55 me right off!!!

I'm getting about two of these a week on both my mobile and home number, so the people behind these silent calls have both my numbers in their database, phone on the home phone and then ring off, you hear breathing, then phoned on the mobile and ringed off. Probably Nigerian fraudsters looking for old ladies for rich pickings, it ain't the Nationwide the people behind these calls are freaking the caller ID to Nationwide.

This number can be from anyone from Nationwide, our telephone systems are run through centralised VOIP, so it could be your local branch manager, head office, a mortgage consultant or your secret Nationwide lover.

Call 08457 30 20 10 and you will get through to the central contact centre.

I'd like to say Nationwide don't cold call people, but we do. Sorry. If it makes you feel any better we don't do it because we want to, we do it because our managers tell us to.

It is Nattionwide and is legit, from what Ive read its from any part of the company. I've received calls from this number regarding a job application and interview invitation. I haven't received numerous calls though, I've only missed one call which was the morning of my interview and they didn't attempt to call back. So I'd say it is definately legit :))

Unlike most numbers left on these 'who calls me sites' this is definetly Nationwide. Most numbers on this site are scam callers etc.

Called me regarding a meeting I had arranged, left voicemail when I didnt answer. As someone said, its a generic number that's left on your phone whichever Nationwide call is coming from. They left me a number to call back on the voicemail regarding my situation.

If its important or they expect you to get back to them they should always leave you a proper number.

I received a call on my mobile from this number, 0800281801 claiming to be from vodaphone.  They appeared to know my details but then asked for my pin number, which I declined to give.

They had previously tried to phone me from 08080600702 - 4 times but I hadn't answered the calls.  On one occasion they left a message asking me to call back, which of course I didn't!!!!

0800281801 called at 1930 today. It could be Nationwide as I've had loads of calls from Nationwide asking to speak to me. Previous calls have withheld the number so I don't speak to them but just hang up. especially if the accent is foreign

Sadly I do have dealings with Nationwide but I wish that I didn't A rubbish company If they want to communicate with me they can write.

it seems to me that Nationwide numbers are becoming dodgy 0800281801 left a message asking for somebody else who i've never heard of, and its not the first time. I've asked Nationwide about it but they have no clue about anything so i reported the number.

I have been pestered by this number hoome and mobile for days and days. Thought it was telesales so didnt answer it!

Answered it this afternoon and it was a lady (gruff 60 [***] a day voice) saying an incorrect amount of money had been paid into my account today could they change it. No details very vague.

I wonder why they should be calling me last week for a transaction that only happened today!

I was given a Direct Dial number which is NOT a recognosed Nationwide number.

I'm not sure what is going on with the previous poster's call. I suppose it could be a spoofed 0800 number in the caller id. Try 1471 next time and see if the numbers are the same, although I'm not sure if the exchange can differentiate between the source number and what is sent in the caller id. signalling to your phone/caller id. unit.

Nationwide will always ask some simple security questions to verify your identity but will never ask for specific account information as they already have that when they call you. As long as they did not ask you for your account numbers etc., just what type of accounts you hold with them (e.g. I also have a CashBuilder account) and maybe details of a recent transaction (e.g. I paid my store card bill by Visa Debit card last week), then it was most probably a genuine call.

Any numbers that they give out for you to call them back on are likely to be Northampton or Swindon numbers but I'm open to correction on that as there may be others.

In my case it was a response to some queries I had raised through the on-line banking facility and, whilst the matter was not resolved to my entire satisfaction, I was very happy with the outcome and the willingness of the caller to accommodate me to the best of her ability. She also volunteered her direct contact details for future reference and has included me in the escalation process of the issues in question.

We need more categories on here for 'Call Type'. We should at least have 'Genuine Call' or something to cover a call in response to a letter, call or on-line query from the recipient.

It's nationwide recruitment..I applied for a job in their contact centre and they called back to arrange a telephone interview.

I received a call from this number asking to callback saying that it was from Nationwide bank.
I called Nationwide and the bank did not know anything about this phone call.

I concur with all who say it's Nationwide, as I've just talked to them.  They seem to be trawling people with healthy balances to propose that lump sums are put into other accounts that will earn some interest; at the moment flexaccount balances are not making any money of plus balances.  Fair enough.
HOWEVER, the rule of thumb on all unsolicited calls about your bank account must be to tell them absolutely nothing about your details.  Agree to go into a branch and speak to them if you think there is a better way of their holding your money,  but DO NOT discuss anything over the phone about your financial  or personal details.
They should know better (if it is a bona fide call) than to start asking for security details (which they do) - after all, they called you, not the other way around.  I shall be making a complaint that they are touting for business in this way; perhaps you should, too.

as it is an 0800 number if everyone called it back a few hundred times their phone bill would shoot through the roof and maybe they would stop bothering us. But then again they might just change it to 0845..............
