I have had two calls today from this number and all it was was a woman laughing and wouldn't say who she wanted or what the call was about. This was on a new number I have just had for a few days

I completely disagree with most of these comments. This number is nothing at all to do with Nationwide. The number 0800 281801 is Yorkshire Water Customer Services. I received a call on my house phone. When I rang back they said they were checking that my recent complaint had been dealt with satisfactorily. I had recently rang them on 1st May because when we got up that morning none of our taps or toilets were working. There had been a burst water main and the problem had been fixed by the time I got home from work that same day. They were checking to see if we were happy with the service. I said yes and that was that. I was promised that there would be no need to call me again.

Repeated calls from this number on an ex-directory line. The call cuts off within seconds of lifting the receiver.

I want it stopped NOW!!!

it is nationwide they just call to check if your number is active it is routine for them to check people

I have been called five times today, by this number, PURPORTING to be Nationwide Building Society. I screen my calls because I'm sick of getting cold calls from indian call centres that the TPS can do nothing about. They did not leave a message and I did not ring back, but I did ring the Nationwide Building Society who know nothing about this number and have assured me they would not make such calls. They are now investigating this number.

Keep a whistle handy.

Missed a call tonight at 10.37!!!!! Don't have N account or any dealings with nationwide so they should not need to cold call me!!

This number has called me twice in the last week and hung up when I've answered. I don't think it's from Nationwide. Why would they hang up?

Just received a call from this number - dead line despite picking up within 2 rings.
Other callers have mentioned this is Nationwide and we do have a mortgage consultation with them later today so I assume there is something buggy with their system that is ringing to remind me but not actually delivering a message - either way not a nuisance number.

It's the generic number for the Nationwide Building Society.

Number was left on my mobile which I rarely use. I tried calling tonight at 10.00 and the reply said it was Nationwide.I do have an account with them but do not think it is right that they should cold call you. I am suspicious of all cold calls and would not answer. I think they need to rethink how they contact their cusromers

They rang saying they were from Nationwide, who I bank with, offering a free financial planning and advice appointment. But then they started asking security questions to confirm my full name and date of birth, then my address - at which point the alarm bells in my head rang and I refused to give any further information. She said that they had to ask me security questions and I pointed out that she could be anyone and as she rang me, she should know who I was. I declined to continue with the conversation and said I would contact my branch. Although it seems that this is a genuine call, the staff at my local branch had no knowledge of the call and there was no record of it on my account.

I had a missed call from this number, but within minutes I received an email from Nationwide explaining it was then and they where dropping me a call before my app with them.
This isn't a scam number

Call from a lady that had been put through to nationwide bereavement services, received this call on my personal phone number I am not and never have been anything to do with nationwide, don't even bank with them

I had a call from nationwide last night which was expected, but then 2 unexpected ones today from different people. Seemed very suspicious and was asking to pay off their overdraft

Well ... visited my local N/wide branch this lunchtime, they needed to do some digging, so accepted offer of a tel/call at home, rather than hang about.  Call duly rec'd as offered.  So I KNOW it was N/wide who contacted me with answer to my query but, of course, everyone else is fully entitled to make up their own mind. (or - if you have MPD - minds)

It is Nationwide.  I made a complaint to them about the way they were setting up my account.  They are utter timewasters.
