If you applied for an account or have an account with Nationwide, it is from them.

So we all know its Nationwide now but it still remains the same problem - cold calling you could do without. It's all well and good if you asked for it and were happy to receive it but if you did not and it is constant without you being able to stop it then its wrong. We have received calls from this number at work asking for personal details of staff members, when the caller is questioned he waffles on a load of old rubbish. Congratulations Nationwide customers who were happy with this call, as for the rest of us be prepared and when you actually answer this tell them exactly what you think of cold callers.

I received a single ring on my home number, when I dialled 1471, it came up with this number 0800 281801, which I duely tried to phone and was greeted by a recorded message as being phoned by Nationwide Building Society and sorry they were unable to talk to me, and they would try again at a later date. The call was made at 9:38pm, so now I am wondering why someone from Nationwide is trying to contact me! Its all well and good ringing people, but at 9:31pm and not being able to ring that department or person back, is gonna make me wonder about it all weekend. I have emailed them so lets see how long it takes for someone to answer?!?

It is the Underwriting team of Nationawide / The Mortgage Works. Genuine no, but from a switch board hence why calling it back may not work.

Why do ignorant people post witout reading previous comments?

this was nationwide building society calling about home and contents insurance. i checked with my bank and it was legitimate

Had a missed call from this number, turned out to be Nationwide Mortgage services. Wont accept return calls but she left a voicemail with details to call her back.

This is most def NOT a Nationwide Number and do not give out any details, I got NW to call the number themselves and they say it is not theirs. They would leave details about who called with ref numbers branch names etc. They have passed this number to their fraud investgiation team.

Just had a call from this number... Husband picked up and the caller asked for me by Christian name and was, apparently, from Nationwide Building Society and genuine.  Thing is I don't have Nationwide account nor have I applied for anything from them such as loan or mortgage etc. The lady rang back a couple of minutes later and this time i picked up.  She asked to speak to  someone with my Christian name but a different Suname then apologised, saying they must have given her the wrong number.  Am not saying this is some sort of scam but it is a bit weird.

Received a call from this number on a saturday, no message left on my answering machine!

This number just called me and they are The Mortgage Works company..... I'm only one month behind and they hound you.  The amount is not due until 30th of each month - its 27th......

Notict that there's a post supposedly from me. I didn't post that. This number constantly rigs me, and is getting to the point where its harrassment.

After reading other posts I assume this is Nationwide.

They called my wife on our home line, refused to speak to her due to data protection act. they even refused to say who it was calling except to say they were a B.S. (that's building Society not a bull [***] although the latter may be more appropriate).

Bloody thing is the only account we have with them is a mortgage account and that's in joint names so why they spouted the DP Act and wouldn't speak to my wife is rediculous (presume they don't understand the DP Act themselves - just an easy excuse not to give out details). She even refused to give her name but was happy to ask for my mobile and works phone number!!!
