Had a call from Elite Sky repairs earlier by a man called Christian.  He talked very well, very persuasive - telling me that I can replace my existing sky service contract with a new one with them, reducing my monthly payments to £5 per month - money taken out of my account will be £15 every 3 months.  This would give me quite a savings.
He then asked me for my card details for my direct debit, checking which bank I am still banking with - giving him the name of the Bank.   He then asked me the card details - that is when I stopped and said I need to check.   He gave me the phone number everyone else has, which I phoned and surprise, surprise David answered the phone.  He confirmed that they were a real co, but refused to send any details in the post.  So I expect I will not be cancelling my old policy after all.

I am with SKY PROTECT at present - has anyone spoken to them about the Elite Sky repairs trying to take their customers - perhaps they can throw some light on this subject.

Just had a call from ESR...after passing the phone to my dad, I soon took it back and quizzed the callers.

After a 5 min drillling i got to the bottom of what they were and what they were trying to do (they took my dads erm...ok as agreement to move - i soon stripped them of that notion!)

I asked them for their details / URL...when i googled it norton gave it a big grey question mark (not tested) which was a surprise to the salesperson.

I have now lodged a complaint with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) (http://www.tpsonline.org.uk) who we signed up with to stop unsolicited / marketing sales calls.

Hopefully that is the last I hear from Elite Sky Repairs!

BTW, I am with SKY PROTECT and rang them to query Elite Sky Repairs.

They stated that there are lots of companies out there trying this game and that they have a section of their website dedicated to 3rd Parties etc.

Apparently SKY PROTECT are looking into it.

    Hi All,

I work within the FSA regulation industry and also got a call from Elite Sky Repairs recently.  I have checked over the details on their website and it breaks as many rules as the FSA have on distance selling of insurance.

Reading over the T's and C's (which I suggest everyone does before signing anything), I can see that what is covered under the policy is 'accidental damage to your equipment if it occurs during the manufacturers warranty period'... which means it will most likely one cover one year from the date you got your sky box.  Interestingly it also says in the what is not covered section: 'Repairs or replacement of equipment still covered by the manufacturers? or other warranty.'... meaning that accidental damage is covered only while the product is in manufacturers warranty, but they will not repair or replace the product if so???

Hope that gives you some information on this.  Also, if you have any complaints on this company and they have not been replied or the decision they've given you does not meet your satisfaction then you can refer the complaint to the Financial Ombudsmon Service (FOS).

My mother who is almost 80 and recently bereaved got a call from elite she stupidly signed up for
agreement after the sales advisor was quite insistant but in her present mindset got herself quite confused.  I have, on her behalf, phoned and tried to cancel the agreement, we have not received any letter confirming agreement but i was able to get agreement number from one advisor but keep getting fobbed off saying we cannot cancel until letter received and  you are moving premises and the letters have been delayed.  Money has been taken from my mothers bank account, before 14 days of receiving call, and she is now in quite an anxious state as on reflection this is money she cannot afford to pay.,

    Please advise

    Hi,

FSA and OFT rules state that you can cancel anytime within 14 days without penalty.  If they have taken money during this time then they must pay it back.  It is worth writing a formal complaint and if this is not dealt with then write to the FOS who will investigate (and charge elite sky repairs £450 to do so!).

I also suggest calling your bank to stop any DD that has been set up.

My wife was persuaded by ESR telesales to move to them from Sky as they were cheaper. She foolishly gave them a debit card details. Money was taken from account for 3 months when our HD box failed. We managed to get through to their support number after many attempts only to be told to switch it off for an hour and ring back. Again after a few attempts we got through again and after more tests were told we had a failed HD box and an engineer would be in touch. After two working days heard nothing so rang again. Apparently they had been let down by a third party firm who did the repairs and would be in touch. Following day an engineer rang but said he couldn't make until Friday as he was busy. That evening I phoned to query the 48 hours claim and their salesmen told me to cancel my contract if I wasn't happy. So I sent a letter and had to cancel the debit card as it was the only way to cancel the payment.
On the Friday an engineer turned up to replace the HD box after 8 days elapsed time but had to check with his office as he had not heard of ESR and we still had not got a contract from them. Fortunately his office agreed that we didn't need to pay as it was covered by ESR.
Tonight after 1month a salesmen from ESR was on the phone. Why had we cancelled as apparently we weren't allowed to for three months as we had claimed. Nothing on the website  T and C's about this ! He then stated that either I paid £350 for the new box or gave it back to them. I said I wouldn't do either as I had followed their own advice but was then 'threatened' with a call from his director. I'll see what he has to say tomorrow !

Just had a call from ESR with all the same stories as above and stupidly fell for it, same patter, same nonsense. Felt uncomfortable about it so called SKY who have nothing to do with them. Immediatly googled ESR and found this site so just as quickly cancelled my card with the bank. Hopefully in time! Beware and avoid - it is definatly a scam.
The number they gave me to check up on them is 08007797444, sounds like they realise we are on to them!

That may all be very true, but you're also a bunch of persistent, cold calling chancers who trade on the verges of what's legal, decent and honest. Go and and get yourselves an honest job and stop trying to hoodwink the innocent and vulnerable into buying something they neither need nor want.

I've been with ESR for 10 months and have used them twice.

The first time I used them it took about 3 days to come to me, so 1 day longer then expected, but the second time I used them it took 2. They were apologetic the first time, and said that their engineers in my postcode area were having some issues, when the engineer did come out, he was curtious, polite and replaced my box with another one. I've not had any issues with ESR and believe them to be one of the cheapest on the market, and believe me, my husband and I have done our research.

I can understand that it might seem slightly unnerving to give your card details over the phone, especially if you're feeling like its a cold call, but if you take the policy out before scaring yourselves with the 30 people who haven't used them, you might find that they are a good company. I understand the script that they work from has been changed, but it probably has alot to do with the individual salesman too. I think that whilst they have some way of improving their approach to recruiting customers, I've always been able to ring the service line number (and was told on the change to the new one within plenty of time) and come across some friendly customer service/fault advisers.

Stop looking at what not even 1% of their customer base is saying, and try them. Google tescos, or any other company and you'll get a lot more negative feedback.

L had a call regarding taking the insurance out - gave all my card details - then thought about it for about 20 mins and called back to cancel.  Needless to say, it was an aswerphone!!  I left a message, and 3 days later am still waiting for a reply  I then phoned the number I found on this site and the gentleman told me I had to wait for the paperwork to arrive and then cancel.  I phoned again this morning and was told the same thing.  The paperwork arrived  addressed to my husband who has had nothing to do with this (the card is in my name only) - I phoned and spoke to Jade who asked me "why did you take it out then? in a very rude tone.  Her whole attitude towards me immediately reinforced my decision to cancel - not a very good telephone manner at all. I have no idea whether the company is good at all but going by my experience of telephone calls I don't think I want to find out.  I now wait to see how it takes to refund my £19.50 which had been taken out of my account. I was not aware the money woud be taken out prior to the paperwork arriving and my confirming (or not) the verbal agreement on the phone.  This should be made totally clear in  the original call. I

Fell for the scam last Thursday, salesperson saying they were from Sky and just wanted to reduce my maintenance payment if I paid quarterly instead of monthly ( currently with Sky Protect ). Told salesman during the call that I did not want the agreement to proceed and was told it was too late ! Called back to complain and was told by a manager that his salesman would not have said what I was claiming.Got paperwork today , called to cancel and was told company had changed their name  ' today' to - NATIONWIDE SATILITE SERVICES. I wait to see if my refund is repaid.

I have been with Elite Sky Repairs since April 2010.  On Tuesday this week we had to call them to log a fault with out Sky box, having spoken to Sky who said contact your insurers.  My husband spoke to someone called Jade who assured us someone would be with us within 48 hours and would contact us by telephone to say when/what time etc.  We waited in all day Wednesday, no-one came, so rang again and spoke to Jade.  She said they would definitely be coming today, Thursday and would ring either Wednesday night or Thursday morning, at 12.30 my husband rang to see what had happened. She said she had contacted them they would be coming.  At 4.30 pm, having again waited in all day  and was answered by a Dave Birchell who was so rude, unpleasant, and downright nasty that I was near to tears.  He would barely let me speak, speaking over me all the time and said it was my fault they hadn't come because I had rung to ask where they were.  I was now back on a 48 hour waiting list with another company which would mean it would be after Xmas before any repair would be done. I asked to speak to the manager and he said he was the manager and that the only one higher was the Managing Director and 'he' wouldnt speak to 'me'.  I could go on but you will have an idea of how awful it has been.  I intend contacting Trading Standards and also Watchdog and hope that anyone else who has had the misfortune to have contact with this awful person will follow suit.  Incidentally, I rang the number on the agreement for the main office at Bournemouth and it doesnt exist.

My sister aged eighty hs housebound and sometimes gets very confused especially on the telephone. I deal with her financial business which includes her bank accounts, direct debits etc.. In my absence a telephone call was received from EliteSkyrepair which my sister answered. I can only assume that some sales pressure was applied to her in excepting a full contract at £39.44 which, was taken out of her account on 7 Dec 2010. On my return I telephoned Eliteskyrepair and informed them that my sister already had a contract with Sky Repair paid for by direct debit and did not need another company to do the same repair to the same TV equipment. They claimed my sister took out the contract and gave her bank details freely and there was nothing that could be changed as she had taken the contract out. I argued that due to her illnesses she was not capable of understanding or agreeing a contract over the telephone. Before cutting me off the rather abrupt rude chap representing Eliteskyrepairs said I would need to write to the company and explain who I was and what authority I had in speaking on behalf of my sister. In my opinion - this company stinks and must be involved in a scam by extracting money from very vulnerable members of the public . No address to which I could write my complaint was given and by Judith's response of the 23rd Dec, I stand little chance of making further headway in recovering my sisters money.
