Just spoke to Ian in the advertsinig standards authority ASA on 02074922222 and he has informed me that they have released a statment advising that they are aware of the advertisinig protectioin agency scam based in east cheshire and are aware that they are inpersonating them and advised me to contact east cheshire trading standards were they are based and report them on 0300 123 55 00 and to put a stop to this awful company.

To whom have they made/released this statement? Will it be printed/published online anywhere?

i have called the asa and a lady called alexa basically told me that she has been provided with a statement about tapa and are advising them that they are by no way affilliated to them.

i think anyone who has been contacted by these con artists (tapa) or anyone who are suspicious of tapa should contact the asa imediatley and ask them if they are aware of this governement protection scam.

hey all, happy new year and all that....

just a quick one to let you know i've not heard anything since they threatened me with court, looks like they've put me down as a lost cause and gone on to harass some other poor soul.

don't suppose anyone else has heard from them since the being threatened with court??

Think I am now the poor soul who is being harassed. Just waiting for my court threat. Have not answered the phone or made any contact with them but still they go on and on. Will contact east Cheshire TS tomorrow.

Abster in the end they will give up. they can't do anything to you. Don't engage them in conversation and just hang up on them if you do answer

Abster: Are the calls to you still frequent (more than 1 per day/week)? Mine have long since stopped, nothing for 2 months now. If so I do think it would be a good idea for you to contact the East Cheshire TS as suggested  by the ASA.

Yes - will do - only managed to log complaint with ASA and Action Fraud (again) today. Tomorrow will try and get through to east Cheshire TS.

I don't know how ANYONE gets in touch with TS - I have tried their website numbers and get redirected to Consumer Direct each time. Every person I speak to at CD tells me I must do something different - one says pick the phone up, tell them you know its a scam and not to contact me again (I have not done that) and that it is useless to try and write as they are an illegal company and so don't take any notice of legally correct ways to contact them. Another tells me that writing has been found to be the best way of stopping them because if this got taken to Court then a Judge would look at how I tried to cancel. (I have written once and emailed twice - am not intending to repeat these) Another said that I only have to prove that I have attempted to contact them. (I have PO proof of posting and delivery barcode and email confirmation from TAPA). It is all very confusing. However, I am holding fast and adhering to the advice and experiences of this forum. Was anyone else given conflicting opinions from the Legal channels?

You need to ask consumer direct to contact Trading standards for you and get them to phone you back (that's what they did with me). you may have to go through your local trading standards to get them to contact east cheshire TS. Failing that try the East Cheshire number main council number and see if there is a way of getting through

Hi abster - I've managed to get on this site now I am "on leave" from hospital until Sunday when I'll be getting ready to start treatment. When all this first started - and I was involved with the "Satlite" scam as well - I was told the correct procedure was to go through Consumer Direct initially. What they told me was to write and cancel which I had already done, giving them 14 days to reply/acknowledge. After you have followed this advice and nothing is forthcoming, then CD will get in touch with TS on your behalf. This is exactly how it happened with me and West Yorkshire TS rang me. If I have any more problems I can go to them directly, but I'm not expecting any, since they contacted TAPA directly and basically told them to lay off, as I had cancellation rights under the Distance selling regs. I do agree thoough, there was often conflicting advice from Consumer Direct, so the quicker you get through to TS, the better. I think you're coping brilliantly!

Hi, Lizzie, glad you are out on "parole"!  Good luck next week.  I agree with you about CD, sometimes they seem to live in a perfect world where everyone obeys the rules. I have rung them about a few things and must admit their advice as not always been useful.  They do seem to be reading from a script.  TS aere much more on the ball and in the real world.

Would be very happy to if you have proof or I can find proof somewhere. The MSE site are very keen on accuracy which is why they closed the thread down last time. Leave that one with me.
