- docrobjust had a call from this no. and checked it out, found it to be genuine barclays automated fraud line, so you can be assured it's safe and just barclays doing a good job to prevent card fraud. dam good service!!
- Caller: barclays fraud line
- ANONCall from Barclays, press any key to continue. Rang 1471 and somebody answered by saying "hello" and nothing else, in a foreign accent. Hung up and rang Barclays Fraud. Got through to what I am assuming was India and spent the next twenty minutes on the phone trying to explain what had happened. Got advised to never, ever give my details out over the phone (er, hello, I didn't), followed by advice about pinsentry and how to log on online... very, very frustrating. Asked if my card had been frozen. Was told it wasn't. He did tell me that the number wasn't known to him and advised me to email barclays informing them of the number - internetsecurity@barclays.co.uk Felt a bit sorry for the poor man on the other end of the phone because he was trying his hardest to help me (hence the advice about pinsentry) but didn't really understand why I had called him.
- ANONupdate from the post above - I rang the number 08453512262 again and it was automated Barclays - am so glad I rang - paid for the deposit on some flights (should have been £375 and had been charged the full amount of £960 instead...) Was only asked to confirm date of birth and the last five transactions on my account. Awaiting refund from travel company!!!
- JRYou idiots who are saying this is not genuine - you caused alot of wasted time. WHy not just try it? it's genuine, and notified me of potential fraudulent info on my account. They don't ask for paersonal info - just to confirm a date of birth
- Caller: Barclays
- PaulThis is a genuine Barclays Fraud number. Wasnt sure so rang them and asked
- KRI got this call but didn't answer (was able to google it before and stopped ringing to double check) and rang Barclays via the fraud number on their website 0845 7555 555
They transferred me through to the fraud end. I had to give the long number off my debit card and answer 2 security questions (how to spell my middle name was one). I was dubious about this but figured if I had been put through directly from the telephone banking then it should be ok.
The call came after I tried to make an online purchase but I had forgotten my Verified by Visa password. This caused them to decline the transaction but it should be cleared now. - wingobingowas told by girl on barclays fraudline thing that one of the fraudulent transactions actually went through in abu dhabi (ooh surprise) after quite a few attempts, so phoned barclays, bless 'em, & they explained how i get reimbursed. WARNING!!! if you use hole in the wall to get your cash out look for a small piece of tape hanging out where you insert card & look for a different or new or plasticy or wobbly screen & surrounding bits & also only go to hole in the walls with lots of activity, quiet places like garage forecourts give the scumbags plenty of time to set up a dodgy false screen.
also if anyone talks to you while you are at a hole at any stage IGNORE THEM!!!as they may divert your attention ie:is that your whatever on the floor
........j u s t c h e c k i n g s p e l l i n g. sorted bye - KC| 1 replyDO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER ITS A FRAUD, I HAVE VERIFIED IT WITH BARCLAYS - CALL THE REAL FRAUD DEPT NO AS LISTED ON THE OFFICIAL BARCLAYS WEBSITE
- JamesDo not listen to the morons saying this is a fraud, it's a genuine barclays number.
They do not ask for any personally identifiable information or card numbers, the automated machine will read off your name, a list of DOB's and the last 5 transactions on your account to which you must confirm are legit or not.
Ignore this call at your own expense. - phewReceived a call from this number last night, was concerned as it was automated and don't trust anything like this but, for some reason, decided to hear it out. I was not asked any information that could have been used, such as card details or security code. The only information was my date of birth, which they asked me to confirm from a list, and confirming transactions made recently. I was pleased with the service, once I realised it was legit. There hadn't been anything fraudulent, but a well-known online retailer was processing orders individually, leaving quite a few small transactions that alarmed Barclays.
- kazzgot an automated voicemail saying to call barclays fraud dept. says its not a marketing call but its important to call as its concerning fraud
- Caller: supposedly barclays
- Good GuyOK. Been through all this. Didn't call the number back BUT after about an hour received another call anyway. Answered this one and got taken through the process as many have already been through. No bank details given or asked for, just a confimation on DOB and five recent trransactions are listed - in my case for info only - nothing dodgy. In summary - don't panic sit tight and they will call you again. Hope this reduces your stress levels!!
- RoustaboutI've no idea why folks need to post rubbish about this number being some sort of scam.
It's genuine. The only questions you are asked to confirm / provide are ones that only Barclays would know, such as details of your most recent transactions. If a fraudster knows such info about you account activity already, it's too late to be worried about whether they've cleaned you out -- because they've already done it! :-)
That said, I share the concern that such a method of getting in touch -- I get one of these calls from Barclays once a month or so, and familiarity breeds contempt and you lower your guard in frustration.- Caller: Barclays Fraud Department
- RobI too have received this number and rejected it each time, if this number is not a fraud then it should not have come through to me as I do not bank with Barclays.
- StephenIt appears to be Barclays automated transaction validation service.
Followed it through and it asked me to verify 4 transactions on my account.
Since it obviously had access to my bank account and asked for no card details, I presume it is legitimate.
I had triggered the activation by an unusual large on-line transaction.
So I guess the system works. - Dr Eddy Kloprogge| 1 replyI was called several times by 08453512262 today on my home number and immedialtly afyer that on my mobile. After making enquiries it turned out to be a genuine call from Barlays Fraud system. I phoned Barclays and spoke to a fraud officer. It turned out to be that I had pre-ordered something over the internet (hotel reservation and payment of future website domain) for which payment was not due. They confirmed my debit card by taking off 2 x £1 payments and immedialtely repaid that amount. Barclays picked it up as an unusual transaction and their automatic fraud system kicked in. Barclays had blocked my card. After my phone call, after some security question which were not un-safe to part with, they un-blocked my card.I explained that I did not know that such a system was in place, and that I thought it was a scam. They encouraged me to make a complaint.
- Caller: Barclays
- Lynn replies to Dr Eddy KloproggePlease do not listen to the people saying this is a scam! It isn't! I was trying to purchase a battery on line and my card kept being declined for reasons unknown to me. As I tried to make the payment again, my mobile rang. I was a bit dubious, but as I have been a victim of fraud previously, I put 2 and 2 together and assumed it might be Barclays about the payment I was trying to make. Sure enough, when I got to the 5 transactions there were 2 transations I did not recognise, 1 for £250 and 1 for £1. When I was put through to an adviser, she confirmed that these 2 fraudulent payments had been declined by Barclays as they were believed to be fraudulent. I hear what people are saying about the automated service, but although a bit dubious at the begining of the call, I think it is a fantastic service, and has prevented the thieving scum bags from trying to steal my money..... again!
- zzbthiThis is Barclays debit card fraud line. They will call whenever their realtime monitoring system detects something unusual in the use of your Barclays Connect (Debit Visa) card.
- Caller: Barclays Bank
- zzbthi replies to KCthis is absolutely incorrect. It is not a fraud, it is a legitimate automated callback from Barclays Fraud department.
- SheilaLewisThis number has called me several times, left no message . . but I don't even bank with Barclays . . ???
