they called me today, it is an automated system, but I was very happy with the service. I made a booking online and they immiediately called checking whether it was a genuine transaction.

1st time I am happy with barclays lol

I had a call from this number, was suspicious so rang the number I found on the barclays website. Eventually I got through to the fraud dept who told me that they had put a block on the account due to suspicious activity.
I would guess that some of the confusion is that Barclays and Barclaycard are different essentially companies, and probably have different fraud offices and numbers?
If you do get a call from this number I advise that even if you don't want to call them back on the number they give, call the bank anyway.

I got this call from 0845 3512262 on my landline, Mobile and a text message.
I called Barclays telephone banking who said to call the number.
I called the number confirmed my date of birth and confirmed 5 recent transactions on my card on this automated service.
They where just making sure the transactions where legitimate.
I'm on holiday so I think the transactions made during daytime and not in the evening as usual may have trigered the alrms at their end.
But it is legitimate call.

I used this service today. It's actually a very good service. Automated and straight-forward. I believe Barclays have an automated checking system to monitor unusual behaviour on their customers' accounts, hence the calls.

Well worth the 5 minutes out of my day for the peace of mind.

I got a call from this number - message left on answerphone that it was urgent and to respond immediately.  After reading the very mixed comments on this site about this number I  have just checked it out on Barclays website where you can put the number in and they advise whether it is one of theirs or not.  It came up with a Warning that it is NOT one of their numbers.

I've just rec'd a message from this number to call them, I went through the phone numbers on Barclays website and they confirmed it was a geniune number, they just wanted to confirm the last 4-5 transactions made online where made be myself.

If you are telephoned by this number it is imperative that you answer or call back

I just received such a call involving a Portuguese communication's company trying to take £87 from my account using my debit card number

Like the others automated call, so rang Barclays no problems on my account.

if in doubt ring the number on the website, they are very helpful.

I called the bank directly and they said that this number is a SCAM!!!
People, do not listen to the ones who are telling you it is legitimate. They are probably the scammers!
To be on the safe side - call Barclays real number and check if everything is fine.

I literally just got off the phone with my telephone banking, it's real. I am not a scammer, I'm a 19 year old girl who just unluckily ordered something from itunes, o2, then tried to make a big Topshop purchase, lol.

That's BARCLAYCARD. Not Barclays.

I got a call from this number but it was for someone else!!

It's fairly obviously genuine when you phone it, because all you provide is a phone number and choose your birthdate from 3 they supply.  Then they tell you the transactions. At no point do they ask for anything that would be useful for a scammer.

Had an automated call on my answerphone from Barclays Bank fraud team.  Rang back using one of the phone numbers on their website.  They were very helpful and were quite happy that I rang them instead of the number in the message.

Had 2 automated messages from them but the name they give is not my name. How would they have my phone number and in correct name. I have a very old account with them that has no money in it anyway so just ignoring it as I have no security details to input

It's 100% genuine. To be on the safe side I called the fraud line on the official Barclays website directly who confirmed it. I'd do the same if you're not sure.

Some posters have mentioned they called Barclaycard and they said it's nothing to do with them - which it isn't. They are a completely different entity - this is for debit card fraud only.

I had a call from this number and didn't trust it, when asked for my date of birth I gave the wrong one, and they said it was right! i got through to a woman who asked for my ENTIRE address, I refused to give it as they normally only ask for the first line. I asked if I could give only my post code, as I had previously looked up this number and read it was fraudulent so I was concerned. She got very abusive and ended up hanging up. If this isn't confirmation enough, I called barclays from a number I found on their website and told them what happened. They confirm it was nothing to do with them and that I was right to not have given my details and that an automated call is not their procedure for fraud concerns.
