Kind regards
James Wilson"
Below is the email I sent them with all the questions a previous person put on here, I'm extremely grateful for your help. I hope in some way this may help others!
Dear Grant, David and Rachel,

What is your company address?
What is the name of the publication in which you want me to place an advert?
What type of publication is it?
How many copies will be printed?
Where will they be distributed/circulated?
How will the publication be distributed/circulated?
How can I get hold of a copy of your publication?
Is the publication being produced on behalf of another organisation?
If YES, what is the name and address of that organisation?

- Foolish replies to KerryI paid them £130 via bank transfer two weeks ago for advertising. Stupid or what? Any ideas what I should do? Apart from being more careful in the future. Have sent the details to the local police via email and waiting for a response from them.
- forestHi all great blog I to have just been caught up in this scam ive just received what should be my second invoice never had a first lol. My name on the invoice was spelt wrong my address had no house number or the correct first line of my address and was also wrong on pathetic little design it came on. does this make any verbal contract invalid? Ive had no emails from these and let my wife ring them them who told them to send us this so called tape.
I will let you no if it arrives
stay away from RANGE PUBLISHING LTD as well- Caller: Community Publishing
- JohnYep, they are still going. They phone new businesses and claim to be the police. The they tell you they are working for the police in publishing a local crime reduction journal which is subsidised and would you like to place an advert. Turns out there is no connection with the police at all. No sure if the magazine will ever be published either!

- dj82Phew, thank god for you guys. I literally googled the company on a hunch, I was going to pay over the next day or two and wanted to see how big/small a journal it was. Again, the same story, the same rough-sounding guy cold-calling me, the same email from Rachel, the same shoddy advert. Had agreed on the phone to 1/8 page advert. Didn't pay, and won't pay. If they kick-off then I will go to Trading Standards and the Police as they purported to be representing them.
By the way, I got the 'you're in a contract' line too. BUT, worst case scenario, even if they do answer Gem's excellent questions, and you DO have to pay, then they definitely have to print the advert in a magazine, and distribute it to the 55,000 police, fire, ambulance addresses in Devon and Cornwall that they say they will. This can be checked, and it's probably a statutory right that you can ask for this to be done, and proven before you hand money over - which is essentially what we thought we were getting in the beginning. I'll be surprised if I hear from them again, and I'm sure they'll back off when I tell them I'm meeting the police (a lie) especially to talk about them and their 'journal'
DON'T PAY AND DON'T LOSE ANY SLEEP OVER IT. THEY HAVE NOTHING.

- SuzzeebearWe have just been caught by this scam, by a company called regional press publishing who state they publish the Crime security journal. Bloke was very professional began conversation by talking about having a clean driving licence and parking tickets. We haven't paid anything yet nor will we, thanks to the info in this blog. We will be off the police station in the morning to report the scam and highlight to trading standards. They are low life's preying on new businesses during hard times.
Thank God we haven,t paid anything out.
Should have known better as I worked in the emergency services and my dad was a police officer. We will not be advertising with cold callers.- Caller: Regional publishing

- peter| 6 repliesI am currently disputing this outfit as I initially agreed to place an ad but after seeing the art work found it poor quality to say the least. I have beed told that I entered into a verbal contract on the phone to place an ad and that I waived my rights to any cooling off period during that conversation where i can change my mind. I think they are unscrupulous in their approach and will be fighting this and have reported them to the trading standards office, I suggest anyone who get's a call from them puts the phone down on the caller.

- aj replies to peter| 1 replyi keep having emails off racheal so i phoned her told her i have been to the fraud squard got a crime number and she canceled the order
- dj82 replies to peter| 1 replyPeter,
You have not entered into a verbal contract for two reasons - firstly, all contracts have to have terms and conditions, if these are not provided in paper they have to be read to you over the phone, and even then verbal contracts don't have the power they once did - essentially ALL companies should provide you with a hard copy of the terms of conditions. They haven't done this. Secondly, they are not who they purported to be, and and as such they are not the company you agreed to deal with. I was told they represented the emergency services, but the Police deny it. Therefore they lied and you are not contracted to a false contract. So don't be bullied and be 100% cast iron assured they do not have a leg to stand on.
The police and trading standards are aware of this company and have called it a scam themselves. With them both in your corner how could you ever lose in court or even be called to court? Short answer is - you can't.
I spoke to them today as a new mobile number came up, told them I cancelled and while a bit huffy, it's been accepted. Still getting invoices daily so I sent them a cancellation message for the first three and today's I told them all about how the police warned me off and said I'm not liable, and how trading standards know about them too.
I'll keep checking this site for a few months, if you have any questions then reply to this message.

David - Lu Lu replies to Kent| 1 replyThank god for all yor information on here!
I am a new business, contacted by these cow boys who dont respond to my emails (now blocked theirs!) All the phone numbers i now recognise and have just had a second invoice from them demanding money with the late charge payment of £40 and threatening over the phone to take me to court, have also attached a so called voice recording of me agreeing to advertising, when infact the idiots contacted me the following morning and I told them to cancel any advert, no voice recording of that that conversation though!
Am soooo glad I decided to have a bit of research time into "scams" and found loads of others with the same problem as literally have felt petrified and not eaten till this afternoon, am a happy bunny now that I have realised its not just me! thank god i didn't part with any money!
Thank you! - Lu Lu replies to peter| 1 replyThank you for putting details on here, I have had the same problem and know now not to bother with emails or phone calls and a few sleepless nights along with not eating as was absolutely petrified of this so called company.

- dj82 replies to Lu LuI had the same attachment sent via email, a telephone recording. Unfortunately for them they never stand up in court, most verbal agreements never do without the statutory cooling off period.
Funny enough, ever since I emailed them telling them I know who they are, know they are a scam etc, they've stopped contacting me. - Pete replies to Gem| 1 replyHi Gem, Just wanted to thank you for the list of questions you posted on this site, Just used them to get rid of those con-merchants from community publishing. what a bunch of [***] they are.
- Peter replies to dj82Hi 'dj82', thanks for the support with crimesecurity it helps to know that we are not on our own with this.I have just had an email from them saying that they will not contact me again after i sent the list of questions which gem posted on this site and threatened them with trading standards, police, etc.
- Peter replies to Lu LuHi Lu Lu, just to say that I have just got rid of that bunch of con-merchants from community publishing. ai sent the list of questions that Gem posted on this site on page one and threatened them with trading standards etc so if you are having trouble with them still, do the same thing. its@ good to stand up to these people and to have every ones support from this site.
- Peter replies to ajHi aj, Just had an email from community publishing saying my invoices have been cancelled. I sent the list of questions which Gem posted on this site on page one and demanded a copy of the telephone conversation, reported them to trading standards and police. Thanks for the support.
- Gem replies to PeteHi Pete
no problem, when i was having the problems with them i went all out, spoke to trading standards several times, the council, the police, even royal mail who they said were distibuting the journal,
I am Glad the majority of people on here have not paid, Sorry to to those who did. But i bet many more others out there have fallen for the scam. If only there was a way we could actually do something to stop it happening rather than just warning people not to pay up.
i have kept all the emails they sent me, and have most the info still, so if anyone else wants more help, i will try and come on this site every week or 2 to help
Well done to everyone who has managed to get out this scam so far - D2012Don't be intimidated by these con men. After trying to cancel my order and being told I couldn't etc, the following day I received a phone call from another company saying I had agreed to advertising with them and when I said I hadn't heard of them the guy started arguing and I hung up, he rang back 3 times in quick succession and the last time I just left the phone on the table and went back after 10mins and I could hear him still speaking then I hung up. My plan to the future was whenever they phoned I would just place the phone next to the radio and turn the volume up then hang up after 5 mins. They want to waste my time, well let me waste theirs!
In the meantime I phoned Trading Standards who assured me the emergency services ALWAYS do things in house - whether it's advertising or whatever so confirmed it definitely was a scam. I know some people have been sold on the fact that they are part of the emergency services. Trading Standards assured me these cowboys will never take someone to court because they would be exposed, but basically prey and intimidate people to break them down so they pay and the ones that do, make it worthwhile.
A week later I received a phone call from Crime and Security again, I think the person's name was Harry but I can't remember now. I had had the most horrendous day, there was various upsets going on in my life and he chose the wrong day to call basically. He started trying to intimidate me and then he saw my scorpio nature coming out! Put it this way I didn't miss and hit the wall! I got very assertive and said I knew it was a scam and I had been to Trading Standards who confirmed this and they wouldn't be getting a penny out of me. They could call me all they like and waste my time and theirs but no amounts of threats, invoices, intimidating phone calls or anything would make me part with any money. I also said no decent reputable company would behave like this. Since then I have had no emails, post or phone calls from them or any other company.
Stand up to these bullies, do not be scared, they are not going to take you to court or turn up at your door and do not give them any cash. If they start threatening you on the phone, hit them back. Be assertive, raise your voice, do whatever is required. The guy that phoned me ended up stuttering and stammering on the phone because I obviously caught him off guard by my reaction. Unfortunately I appreciate some people have already been stung by these con men.
If I can help anyone with advice just let me know
