- Gemthey call themselves 'community publishing' i agreed to it but have not paid yet, and i wont be paying either, after reading these comments, someone is gunna get a load of abuse on the phone from me when they next ring, i tried ringing the number and got no answer! surprise surprise!!
i cannot find any info about this company, thats how i have realised and then came accross this page- Caller: community publishing
- gerbil| 1 replyI also agreed to it without checking it out first but luckily I haven't handed any money over.
Seems to be a common scam whereby they take payment for an advert in a magazine but don't actually deliver the promise of posting it to however many homes etc. they claim they will. They usually take the names of old companies that have been dissolved etc. (can check on companies house website)
If you agree to place an advert over the phone then the chances are its recorded to be used as a verbal contract and if you ask for proof then they offer to send you a magazine. However it still doesn't prove that it will be delivered to the number of homes they claim it will. I read somewhere that the best approach is contacting trading standards or simply ignoring them.- Caller: Community Publishing
- GemI have contacted trading standards and have told the "company" this, the guy seemed very agitated about it and asked me to email him with my questions, as I asked him to proove to me that the company is legitamet, he told me he we email me back by 12 noon the next day which he hasn't done, and I have been advised by trading standards that if they cannot answer any if my questions then I can consider the 'contract' void and so if it did go to court (by any chance - of which I doubt) I can use it against them that they couldnt give me answers of whom they are! I have asked them a reasonable amount of questions each of which I am entitled to know the answer to so watch this space..... I'll keep you updated

- gerbilSounds similar to what happened with me. I replied to them by email stating I wished to back out of placing the advert about 3 or 4 hours after they called me and recieved a reply saying its not possible due to wasted time for finding a new person to replace my advert despite the fact they had a month until the magazine would be published.
I then emailed them with all my 'evidence' of them being a scam and asked them to provide suitable proof of them doing what they claim they will do and didn't get a response until about 2 weeks later (yesterday). Have had a phone call (didn't answer) and an email so far asking for payment of the invoice despite the fact I haven't even recieved an invoice.
From what i can tell, their office seems to be in a private courtyard in London that the google cams can't access but the address on companies house says its based in Norwich if I remember correctly.
Will update if anything else of interest happens.- Caller: community publishing
- GemI google mapped there address and just got a picture of a building and the doors look possibly bordered up! Or as though there is no public access, it's been 2 days since he said he would email me back with there answers to my questions, and still no answer, well no answer or proof then no money for them, if they were a "real" company then surely they would put as much effort in as possible to proove their innocence! I too will keep you updated on any more info, I was told the magazine is due out 15th march, but also been told it will be between 16th and 19th march in my area! When is yours due to be "posted?"

- gerbil| 3 repliesNot sure on the exact date but it was around the start of April. Its supposed to be a fire service/police magazine called the crime and security journal. I checked it out on the website and its something I could do better myself and has the odd article taken from local news I'm guessing. The web site itself looks only half finished or very very basic at least.
Did some more reading and it mostly seems to be a scam from the liverpool area but I'm guessing they've branched out :P- Caller: community publishing
- GemI have been emailed back today by them, appaulogising for there poor customer service, (as I had complained about how things have been handled and how there approach has been on the phone) I had no answers at all to my questions but my order with them has been cancelled by the "manager", and I will still receive a copy of the magazine when it has been published! Apparently!!
That's what I've been told, so as far as I'm concerned for me it's over with, I just feel sorry for all the other people that have been sucked in to this but unfortunately I cannot help them, As I don't know who they are!
Good luck to you and if u need any help at all, I will continue coming to this page and will do my best to help anyone- Caller: Community publishing
- gerbilAh brilliant, well done! Well if I could get rid of them too that would be great, just not sure on the questions I would need to ask or what to say to them exactly. I would've assumed they would take the hint after the last email I sent them. Any pointers would be be welcomed and may even help future visitors to this site too.

- gerbilJust been sent an overdue Invoice from them and looked on trading standards website for my area and it says they don't offer an advice service. Do you have any advice on what to write to the company?

- Ariel8th February 2012 I got a phonecall from "Community Publishing" too and can`t find any information about them. I am pleased I did some reseach and found this page. I agreed to it, but havn`t paid yet. I will try and find out more and if any of you have more information, please let me know.
I will not pay anything if I can`t get any proof og their existent. Have feeling that this is a scam- Caller: Community Publishing
- AmyThank you guys for all the information. I didn't actually get a call from Community Publishing but from someone called John Martin from the "Emergency Services Press Office" telling me of the "Crime and Security Journal" that is being created for Emergency Services personnel as a result of the London riots last year.
After speaking to him on the phone and agreeing to use the journal to advertise for business, I got 3 emails from Community Publishing. I then got a letter in the post with a picture of the ad....total amount = £150 for something that looks like a one-sided business card!
I became suspicious after agreeing to the deal (Thanks to Watchdog and Matt Allright!), I did a search on Community Publishing about an hour ago and information was sparse and then I did a search on "Crime and Security Journal", I thought if it is to serve the Emergency Services then information will be very much out there....colour me surprised that you are 1 of the 2 results on Google!
I have sent an email cancelling my order!- Caller: Emergency Services Press Office - 07788 573 925

- GemHi everyone, sorry I've not written in here for a while, I have been waiting to see if I would receive a journal in the post from community publishing as "promised" by the "manager" and as I presumed- no I havnt, my advise to everyone is just don't pay up, ignore all phone calls and invoices, they won't take you to court as they are fake
Here is a web link I recieved when I spoke to a kind lady from trading standards who really helped me, there are several questions on the page that u can ask the "company" if they cannot answer EVERY question then they are not legitamet basically,
Plus another good question to ask is "what is your company registration number?"when I asked that they suddenly tried to be very helpfull but in such a way that they didn't have to answer with there number! Also if u mention trading standards and about there poor customer service they will cancel your "contract"- well that's what they did for me,
Here is the link trading standards sent me- it's very helpful...http://www.hants.gov.uk/regulatory/tradingsta ... 516&frmShared=1
Good luck- Caller: Community publishing
- Gem| 2 repliesMe again, I just noticed the link doesn't work,
These are the question I asked....
1. What is the company registration number?
2. can you give me the details of the constabulary you are associated with?
3. can you give me the name and contact details of the press officer within the constabulary?
4. how did you get my details?
5. how many copies of your journal will be printed?
6. where will they be circulated?
7. could you send me via post, a copy of the advertisement
8. could you send me a copy of the agreement and contract
9.i have been led to believe you are working along with the police, can you provide me with proof of this
If they can't answer all of them then they are fake
I managed to catch them out don't believe there rubbish!- Caller: Community publishing
- Westwood| 3 repliesI have been targeted by the same scam.
You are all telling the exact same sorry as what happened to me.
These people deserve to be locked up.

They website, a piece of [***] i might add, was registered to the following address on 14th Dec 2011:

Their bank account is registered in Birmingham as Community Publishing.
Here are 3 registered companies, all of which I'm sure have nothing to do with the people making these phone calls:

- gerbilI've poked about on a few law forums and spoke to a few people who know about this sort of thing and apparently if they try to hold you to a verbal contract without stating all the terms and conditions in the phone call itself then the contract isn't complete and therefore useless.
My phonecall from them consisted of about 30 seconds worth of chat and most certainly did not include all terms and conditions stated on their website that you need to accept before you can view your design for the advert.
So if you have only agreed to it in the phone call and not accepted the terms and conditions on the link from the email then thats another way to get them to back off (as I have done myself in conjunction with the questions that they are refusing to answer or side-stepping).
Also as Gem has said, a company like this has never tried to take anyone to court as they do not want to attract attention to themselves. However they may try to use fake court letters and fake debt collection letters (phone the courts to find out if its real or contact debt collection people with same questions asked to CP)
Hope this helps some.- Caller: community publishing

He basically renames or re-registers company's when he's close to be found out. And ofcourse he won't be doing a tax return, so will never stay with one limited company for more than one year.

- Guest replies to gerbil| 2 repliesI got caught into the same scam of the "Crime & Security" journal. I got suspicious since receiving a call today about some artwork for the "Fire Service" journal. The caller, from a private number, specified that this has nothing to do with the "Crime & Security" journal (for which I paid £210!!!) which was meant to come out on Monday 26/3/2012. Apparently this is a separate journal for which I have to pay again so I told him to jog on. Tonight, after a lenghty meeting at my local police station, I got confirmed that this a big scam who involved every sort of trader, from builders to plumbers. Unfortunately I lost a £210 but certainly learnt to be more vigilant about sales calls!
